Is doing a Video response to a most viewed video a good tactic for youtube?

Let's say you make a video response to video for funny hamsters and that video gets alot of views and you make a Video response with the same niche about how to clean a hamsters cage

Its a good tactic to get views

I think it's a great strategy, as long as you're being relevant and/or funny in your video response. If the people viewing that original video derive some value from your response, then you should do well utilizing this strategy.

  • I'd also like to add to this thread the question ... if it is a good marketing tactic, are video responses approved by the channel/video owner?

If the answer is yes then I guess the time spent making the video response needs to be weighed off against the fact that not all videos may get approved/used.

If the original video maker is trying to make money from their video, they usually won't approve it. At least in my experience.

How about removing the link first in you description and add it later when the video gets approved by the owner?

Let me think...You are adding your "cleaning a cage" to an entertaining video about funny hamsters.

The average viewer of the first video probably has no desire to own a hamster, they wish to be entertained by funny hamsters.

If your product actually ties into their current thought pattern your strategy will work.

In your example, I'd be more inclined to make a video about something equally entertaining. Example: Owning and Training a Hamster can Be Filled with Wild Video Out-Takes

At least you are keeping them in the same mindset as you move them into a desire to own a hamster. Now, are you a hamster breeder or affiliate? How do you plan to monetize?
