What would you class as a good article click through rate?

I wrote my first article as I had that approved about a week ago. So far I've had exactly a 33.3% click through rate, however there are some improvements I can make to this article.

I was just curious as to what my fellow warriors would generally class as a good click through rate? I know it differs depending on niche etc, but it would be nice to know what to aim for. Ofcourse I will always aim higher though

I am now updating my second article which I am about to submit and my work is completely quality based, I don't currently care about having 100's of articles as I have backlinks and other support kicking in at the same time.

Also, I have my first article pointing to my homepage but I kind of feel that I have wasted potential sales with that, as the article is also the main content on my homepage.

I think I will have the article with the affiliate link placed at the bottom for the time being and see how that goes. I can review the results after

What are your views on this? How has your success been?

As always, keep on working!

Regards,
Ross.

It depends on many, many different factors.

For me, an average of 17%/18% is a really good click-through rate.

A year and a half ago, my average click-through rate was about 37%/38%, but I now earn far, far more from my articles with an average click-through rate less than half of that.

It's tempting, and all-too-easy, to make the assumption that a higher CTR is going to earn more money, simply because more traffic "ought" to equate to more income. It's not necessarily so at all.

Hi there Alexa. I tried to PM you to thank you for some of your thoughtful/helpful insights I have seen around the forums but my post count isn't 50 yet, so I will say thank you here

Well it is interesting isn't it, on the one hand, you would be led to believe higher is better, but what if the article was so finely written that it attracted a lower percentage, but truly targeted people, you know. That's what you want!

I guess I will just have to keep writing the articles and see how it goes.

P.S nice to see you on the ball, rapid response to an article type of thread haha

Depends on the niche. I get 18 - 20% on my best ones. Around 10% average divided between all niches / articles (there are some real duds in there). I don´t focus a lot on the traditional directories like Ezine articles etc now as I´m seeing better results from smaller networks.

Frankly, I've never even been concerned with click thorugh rates. It is not an important metric as targeting markets.
