Fix muffled voice on a video?

Recorded a video for a client and for some reason, it sounds like I'm talking through a phone or something. It's got that weird sound if you know what I mean.

Any way to fix this?

I actually have no experience with trying to tweak voices like this -.-

Redoing the video is an option, but we are trying to save time as he needs the video quickly.

Thanks for any suggestions.

    You are going to have to redo it.

    You can do lots of things to remove unwanted noise from a video like background noise, hum, etc.

    But there is no way to make a bad voice sound like a good voice.

    You're client would not be pleased even if you did find some way to try and make it better...

    I am sure that they want and expect quality.

      Yep. When I was playing and recording music I learned the hard way that you can't just "fix it in the mix." Even in a multi-million dollar studio. You need a good track to work with.

    Try killing channel 2 of audio you may have the back up mic on, creating the noise you don't want. If that doesn't work I would redo. Audio is one of those things that once you print it's kinda stuck.

      try to change the volume on the recording and remove the back ground noise.

      What type of Mic do you have? 2 years ago I stopped using a standard headset mic and went with a proper studio mic, probably one of the best investments i've made.

    You don't say if it's a screen capture or a live action video. If it's screen capture you'll probably have to do it again. If it's live action, and the source sounds OK, you might just need to recapture it onto your computer.

    Either way, pay attention to the audio sample rate - that's what defines the audio quality. I usually find that (for screen capture) anything under 44100Hz, 16 Bit sounds like a phone call. For live action, there are a number of factors to consider depending on what equipment you're using, so the best way is to experiment with several different settings and see which one sounds best to you.

    If it's overmodulated (or, if it sounds like you're talking through a tin can), there's nothing you can do about it; it was recorded at a level that was too high, and you can't bring it down in post-production to remove the "tinny" sound.

    Try killing the nat sound audio channel (1 or 2, depending on how your equipment is set up). If that doesn't work, you will have to do it over.

    Also, before you re-record it, check your microphone. If you have a cover or wind guard on it that's out of place or rubbing onto the microphone itself, that could be the problem.

    If it can be cleaned up I can do it in 10 minutes. I use a mastering suite called IZotope Ozone 4 with Ableton Live. If you'd like send the file to me at Dan@AllardMarketing.info and I'll get it cleaned up- or email you and tell you you're better off redoing it.
