What the heck! PDF not letting me click on links? Anyone?

Hi Warriors,

Looks like I have to come here for tech help again!

I just finished a report, put it into pdf format...very nice if I may say so. I linked the entire table of contents to certain parts within the document by creating it as a bookmark and then linking it to that bookmark. Now that it's in PDF format it's showing up as a link, but it wont let me click on it or anything.

I'm using MS word, and CutePDF Writer.

Can anyone help a Warrior out???

Switch to Open Office. It's free and the links stay live every time.

      George,

You're right and trust me I regret that now. The only thing is I now have 107 pages in Word, and if I transfer it to Open Office I'll spend a few hours editing it. I don't mind doing it IF it's the only option, but of course would like a fix for Word....when will I even learn about microsoft products

      Thank you for your reply!

If you use CutePDF you have to use the special tool to keep the links clickable.

If you have it in word, then it is simple to do.

        Open Open Office
        Open file
        Click on file name
        Export to pdf
        and follow the instructions.

You do not need to convert a word document to open office to do this.

I have done hundreds of documents with no problems and it take a few seconds only to do.

        Hi,

Maybe there is something I don't know but so far I've never had a problem.

I just close the worddoc then right click the worddoc icon and click open with and then choose open office.

It opens and I click pdf. To the best of my recollection I don't have to edit anything.

Grab my free pdf converter from PdfPrinter.com

It will create your PDF with clickable hyperlinks and bookmarks all for free.
It won't watermark your PDFs or limit the number of pages created.

Also, it will create PDFs with custom sizes (eg: Armand Morin's recent viral pdf) which almost none of the other PDF converters can do.

This will save you from having to transfer over to OpenOffice and reformat your 107 pages.

        Hey Sean,

I did download your software, pretty cool stuff actually! But the table of contents still shows up as highlighted (like a link) but won't allow me to click on it...I just have the grabby hand. Could this be a problem within word or something?

Use acrobat professional 9 if you can afford. Alternatively PM me with your report, I'll convert it properly with clickable link.

By the way the bookmark links DO work in word and in open office just not when I place them into pdf format.

I WISH this was the problem, but it's not. the problem seems to be somewhere in the actual PDF or in the Word Document.

IS the table of content an automatic one or one that has used the bookmarking option. Using the automatic one is easier and always converts to clickable links.
