My first strategy: Can I make money by doing this?

Hey guys. This is my first post I have been reading here for several years, but only recently have I started to get serious about IM. Why? Because I can't stand the working life - being in a company, taking **** from bosses, not having time for my hobbies, travelling, etc.

Ok enough about me, now for my strategy, which I hope to get some feedback on:
I am a skilled programmer with a master degree, and this is why I have started a niche blog about programming. So far I have been blogging one month, and now getting around 20 daily visitors organically from Google. It's not much, but even this is something and it drives me to keep on going.

My plan is to grow this blog bigger and more professional with nice tutorials, videos, etc. driving a lot of visitors to it. While building up this, I am planning to write an e-book about this field in programming. The field is really niche, but it's trending heavily (10x growth on keywords 2009-2010) which I predict could be great for me.

So far I'm planning that income can be generated from these two sources:
  • Selling my e-book bundled with videos, coding examples etc. through a sales page. Traffic to this page should come from a) Clickbank b) my own blog, c) Google Adwords/other CPC network
  • CPC/CPA advertising on my blog, for example through Google Adsense, Ad Brite

Right now I'm revising my plan, trying to get the concept real clear. It's probably sticking to the basics, but so far from reading a lot, I have the idea that there are no sustainable shortcuts in the world of IM, and hard work combined with focus is really what creates your luck here.

So what do you all think of it?

And can anyone recommend free sources to learn about making money with blogs and making money writing an e-book? Some materials about how to write an effective e-book, how to bundle it, how to drive up PR for your blog creating backlinks, etc. would be great!

Thanks
Simon

Its good. Tutorials are great. I would recommend selling your services as a freelance programmer as well, but dont be cheap - establish yourself as an expert and charge a premium.

Also another idea for you - create a premium plugin. Ask around and find something that people would really like to have and create a plugin and sell it for $79.

I think you have a solid idea there. A lot of people are picking up on how much money there is to be made with programming. I have a friend that taught himself with a book and within a year and a half was making 75k/year working for a top domain parking company.

When it comes to creating your book there are several programs out there and even a few wso's about creating info products. I would say one of the best things you could do would be to pick up at least one if not several of the top products on the market today in your niche. See what they are doing and look at what you could do better.

Another great way to do this is to browse forums related to the topic. Find out what it is people are struggling with and what problems they are having. Then build your book around solving those problems. You may find that you can do better solving problems for the intermediate to advanced people rather than teaching beginners. It all depends on what your research tells you.

These are just a few ideas, I hope it helps!
