What converts better? Question on Text/Banner Ads

Quick question - What do you feel converts better?

A. Clickable banners (small - 120x60, for example) with hyperlinked text below banner

B. Just plain text hyperlink

(Both also describe briefly what the link/offer is as well)

I'm running a few tests, but it's been tough to tell as of late. Just wanted to see if anyone out there gets better results doing one or the other.

I always found that putting what looked like a text link on my banner did the best. Haven't tested it lately though.

In my vast experience regularly handling both. PM me if you want details. They both convert very well. Although I do tend to favour text links.

In my experience, text links outperform banner ads vastly.

I think it has to do with the fact people are "tuned" into clicking links as that's how we navigate the internet.

I've tested this on several sites and it seems that on some of them text ads work better and on others banners work a lot better. The good news is, on most sites you can use both!

    in my opinion,

if i am a visitor, my eyes always attracted to the picture. then from the picture, i 'll see more detail that picture describe of what..

my own suggestion, if i want to put a banner, i 'll try to put a attracted picture, plus with some attracted word, then these word 'll attract me to click that banner. Just to put some word that attract a visitor maybe like me to click that bannner to see what inside.

I say print, myself. You could attract more readers in by just a nice brief description of what you have "behind the curtain".

In my opinion text links always converted better. Look at Google..... adsense and adwords are typically text links. I am assuming they know something about what converts well.

no one can tell you exactly whats gonna work for your stuff.... different market, different banners, different sites, offers etc.

the best converting banners overall size wise are the 300x250 ones, i THINK.

you just gotta keep testing it.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I'm going to do some more testing, but may lean towards text. It's just a page on a website of mine with a few offers and I think the banner/text combo could be increasing the load time. Overall, it looks more attractive with the banner/text combo, but I'll test with plain text links to see what converts.

Definitely depends on the location and the nature of the ad. The stories about people being blind to banner ads were going around already five years ago. The logic behind this would be that people are searching for valuable information (unless they're just killing time) and they know they can find it from text, not from commercial banner ads. On the other hand the graphic/banner ads can be more distinctive if they offer the right thing and placed wisely.

I think it depends on website structure and location of the ad. both have advantages as well as disadvantages. If the affiliate site is content rich then banners should be preffered as banners are more catchy and effective than text links.Text links don't attract customers but take very less space. In short text links lead to information, banners lead to a sale pitch
