Good Office/Computer Chair?

Can anyone suggest a very good chair which offers back support. Ive been through a few and just cant find one that is decent. The one I have now was great but after 6 months its now useless, hurts lower back like crazy!

Any suggestions please?

I have this awesome leather chair. I wouldnt be able to tell you what the brand name is or anything like that but it's super comfortable. It cost a little extra up-front but it is really worth it considering you spend so much time sitting in it.

If you have the money get a Herman Miller Aeron. A good chair if your an IM'er is a worthy long term investment. You can get fairly good deals on Aerons via craigslist if you live near a major city, but you'll have to be quick as they are always in demand.

You could get a knock off, which is what I am using now but it still will run you about $240 for a good one. Once you get a good chair there is absolutely no going back to just any old chair. The difference in how you feel while working and while your not working is night and day.

P.S. Herman Miller chairs and others of that caliber might be an niche worth looking into...

Thanks, I have no worries spending money on a chair Im sitting in this thing for well over 5 hours per day and sometimes over 8-9 hours.

I will check out that brand, thanks!

Not wrong about being expensive, $1650. But comes with 12 year warranty - and does look very nice!

Here's an alternative. I have an Aeron myself and it is really great when you're sitting for long hours in front of the computer, but I understand that the price may be a bit prohibitive for some.

I think this is a decent option which costs significantly less and also offers adjustable lumbar support -

well you can choose properly if you have the budget. A good chair is the one that supports your back area were in you were suffering from back pains. And also try or choose something that also supports your shoulder and up to your neck.

Hi,

Sorry about your back.

Take a look on Amazon at the Lumbar Support Cushions.

They've got all kinds at all prices and they really help to ease back pain if you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk. And you can move them from chair to chair.

My wife has the Duro-Med-Relax-a-Bac which really does the job. I think it was about $15 when she bought it a while ago - absolute bargain and worth every cent.

It's called the Crescenzo Microfiber Executive Chair. It's amazingly comfortable and supportive and makes working so much more enjoyable! Super, highly recommended.

  I think a good chair is the best investment anyone can make in their working environment. But, I gotta disagree with everyone who recommends the Aeron.
  
  I did a ton of research when I was buying my chair. My butt was in every chair imaginable - from Ikea to Herman Miller. I decided to go with the HumanScale Freedom chair with headrest. It's actually the same chair Conan O'brien uses on his new show (minus headrest).
  
  There are only 3 adjustments on it - back position, seat position and height - the rest is automatic. The chair moves with you. The seat and back are made of some sort of high tech gel that conforms to your shape. It's amazing.
  
  If you like to recline while sitting like I like to do, this is the only chair that comfortably moves with you. Everything else just felt like sitting on a wooden box. It's a bit pricey (~$1000) but you won't regret it.
  
  There is a chain of stores called "Relax The Back" and you can go try it out there.

In addition the the Herman Miller Aeron, an excellent chair, I would recommend visiting an office furniture store and sitting in a few to test them. Even good expensive chairs can sometimes be uncomfortable for certain body types. Obvious but true.

Ive done a bit of research online and I am going to try the steelcase leap. In australia they are $1600, but from the US to my door is $1090!

Love the overpriced stock in aus!

Dude I see youre in Australia as well. Not sure if you have Empire Office Furniture down there, but I bought a chair 2 years ago that I swear by. Every single staff member at Empire were sitting in the same chair - so I figured it must be damn good. Especially given that they had hundreds of chairs there to choose from.

Cost me just under $500. Its a bit cheaper now, but DEFINITELY worth the money. I spend at least 12 hours a day in mine, and it still feels like new.

  I have been buying desk chairs for years and have yet to find one that I absolutely love. Many of them are OK, but nothing spectacular. For some reason my chairs only last about six months to a year then I either manage to break the steel piece underneath or break off the rollers. Craziness, I tell ya.

Ok Stealcase Leap is what I ended up getting, had to get it here in Australia as stealcase wont deliver from the US. Lifetime warranty and its super comfy.
