Best Laptop under $700 ???

by Ideefixe 14 replies
Hey guys, real quick, I have been shopping around for laptops lately and I wanted to get your guy’s input. So in your opinion what is the best laptop I can get for 700 dollars or less?
Note: It needs to be FAST. I usually run multiple programs at once as well as having multiple browsers open.
Thanks Much.

I don't know what kind of quality product you are going to find for that amount of money, but if you up your budget just a tiny bit, you can get a Macbook. It will do what you want. Once you go Mac, you'll never go back...

This one is nice, and it's only 6 pounds: HP Pavilion DV2910US 14.1" HP Pavilion DV2910US 14.1" Laptop...
The key is lots of RAM. This one is real nice for the price.

I would keep an eye on the Hot Deals over at the forums.
      Hot Deals - Forums
There are great deals on laptops that pop up from time to time and you can definitely get something fast and powerful for the price range you are looking for.
Deals sometimes go fast though, so act fast if you find one.

What are you going to use it for? If it is for video then you need more ram, faster processor, bigger hard drive. If it is NOT for video then almost anything will work.

You WILL need a minimum of 2 gigs of ram if you will be running Vista because it takes 1 gig just to run that OS!

I got a new Dell about a month ago with Vista on it and paid $600.00. It with 2 gigs of ram - may have been more but it's not with me, 4.3 ghz processor, and 120 gig hard drive, and Dual Core. As soon as I installed Office 2007 it slowed down measurably.

Thanks everyone (x2 for VegasMan2k and tommygadget) for your input.

wow there are so many good refurbished deals out there! Needless to say, I'm going to be up for a while longer reviewing them all. Refurbished is the way to go.

To answer the most common question I got:
I am going to use my laptop for (in order)…
          1.) Work (
          2.) Business 1 (Internet Marketing)
          3.) Business 2 (Web Design)
          4.) School & Training
          5.) Email & Podcasts

But guys, that's all arbitrary. It’s really all about Mobility.

          Thanks Again.

If I were you, I'd just shop around for a while and wait for a good deal at circuit city, best buy, dell or lenovo.

You can usually get a really good deal on a good laptop at one of those places if you wait for it / scour forums that discuss hot retail deals.

The Core 2 Duo processor is said to be really good for running multiple programs at the same time. Aside from that, you want at least 1 GB of ram. I bought my Lenovo T60 almost a year ago for about $700 and am very satisfied. It's got a Core 2 Duo Centrino 2.0ghz with 1gb of ram and Windows XP home.

Another thing you might want to keep in mind is that Vista takes a lot of memory. You'll be better off with XP Home or Professional.

      Good luck!
