It looks quite good, but in my honest opinion I think you need to make it a little less colourful and organise a few parts a bit better, but having said that I wouldn't have done any better.
BTW: are you targeting relatively technophobic people? Because if you are then perhaps you might want it to be organised into a more standard layout with a clearly defined action that you want your visitors to take.
    Looks good though.

What do you mean by "standard layout?"

The colour scheme is bit basic and limited but perhaps for people who are uninitiated with computers, software and the Internet, it may convert well. The idea of the site is good, are you offering an afiliate program?

Not for this version but we have plans to do that in the near future. I'm going to mirror the site to a different domain etc. and that version will be built more for affiliates.

            Hi Rich,

            I like it.

Straight, simple and to the point.

I do think you should add an introductory video highlighting the benefits members will receive and think about offering a reduced introductory trial for the first 7-14 days to get people in the door.

We may do a trial later but to start with I'm going to be handing out a bazillion 50% off coupons to all the old people I can find so *hopefully* that will work.

I agree, I think I need a bit more video on the tour too, after all, it is a video site. Thanks.

          Looks like a useful site.

          a lot of info.

What the home page looks like is subjective, I've seen a lot worse

There is a typo on your lessons index SPECAL

          Just so you know.

          Good Job

WoW, its a very good site for kids. I think you need to add some extra features, logos and animation to make it more attractive.

I was going to mention promoting it offline but I see that's what you're doing anyway.

Are you partnering with businesses/organizations that cater to seniors?

That is the plan, yes. I've done a lot of research and I have literally pages and pages and pages of groups that I plan to approach.

Local businesses, especially those with strong and passionate followers, are premiere candidates for membership sites. They already have an established customer base to tap.

It's really just a matter of setting it up and promoting it.

I think you are going in the right direction with simplicity....

You could use some more padding on both the right and left margins of the sales page. Which may mean that you increase the width of the sales page but not anything within the copy area.

Header graphic is abit elementary and could be done better..... no offence meant just being honest. The others could be crisper.

    I like that it's a short page.........

Your color choice may have been a result of trying to be simplistic or match the microsoft icon, but they could be improved upon. The background lines really seem to be 1980'ish?

Something about the way the text is formatted/layed out really bothers me, something is not right. And I can't put my finger on it?

I think once some of the above is taken care of it will be much better.

I think you will do well with it......

Yeah I'm with you with a lot of this stuff, it is just a matter of experimenting and seeing what works best. I *hate* plain backgrounds so I always use images like that, I can't help it. lol.

I wanted the colors to be simple but not neutral. Something friendly.

And yeah the header graphic sucks I know. lol I tried for days to make something that was better but I kept coming back to this one. I'm still planning to work on it.

Give me some idea of what you are looking for and when I can get the time I will work on a header graphic for you if you would like?

Maybe show me a URL of website that has a graphic you like?

Steve I will take you up on that, thank you. Let me look around this weekend and see if I can find something that I like. I have no sense of artistic vision at all so this part is really hard for me.

Wow! What a great site overall.

                Here are my thoughts.

                1) The Header graphic is hard on the eyes. It needs to be smooth, especially as it is targeted to kids and seniors.

                2) It feels like you are trying to "cram" everything above the fold. Don't.

                3) I love the "Never be afraid..." line. And the Windows and Mac graphics.
But I would re-arrange it like this. Put that directly below the logo as it is VERY powerful and basically says it all.

Then comes the "Members Click Here - Etc" links.

Move the excellent photo below that with all of the "Welcome to..." block of text to the left of that, properly formatted.

Expand every one of the bullet points full screen width and start each with the word "learn" and then followed by a benefit both for sale benefits and for SEO purposes. Like this:

Learn How to use Facebook and Stay Connected To Your Family & Friends

Learn How to Use Email to Communicate Quickly with Everyone

Learn How to Use Anti-Virus Software To Protect Your Computers

                etc., etc.

Then you can re-arrange the rest.

You might want to use a higher line height or double spacing to make it easier to read, especially for seniors and I would use a larger font for the same reasons.

My thoughts on the pricing were as follows:

"Man, that's a lot of money per month."

"Man that's a LOT of videos." ("but still a lot of money")

You need to give away a video or two or at least have one or two as examples of what's inside.

I highly recommend you add some pricing options, so you don't leave million$ on the table.

I would figure out a way to offer something along the lines of a secondary pricing scheme where your customer can pick and choose up to so many videos for a certain price and then either add more later for an additional price or upgrade to the monthly plan.

The reason for that is the varying needs of different folks. Some people are going to want everything, in which case the monthly plan makes sense.

Others will want to just learn those things that are new to them, etc.

Overall though it looks like you really have something there.

                Please keep us posted.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

I struggled for a long time with the price but during my research I discovered that seniors love coupons, senior discounts, veterans discounts, etc. I'm going to give out millions of coupons so really hardly anyone will pay full price - the higher price just gives me a lot of wiggle room. We are also anticipating that these users will need a lot of support and that was another reason for the price.

I am working on a version where they can pick and choose lessons, I'm really looking forward to doing that. I already have the videos, I just need to break them up.

Re: above the fold... That part is so hard for me because I've spent a lot of time watching new computer and the thing is, many of them don't realize that they can scroll down. sigh.

                    You are welcome.

Hey, put a link to a free video, above the fold that says:

"Click Here to Learn How to See All of This Page" and have it pop up a new window (small so they don't get confused). I know what you mean. I have done support for decades.

You may need one of those "Animatron" support things that responds to either voice or typing to cut down on cost.

    Rich,

I don't want to be negative, but I really don't think this is a great layout for anyone over 40.

You have to keep your audience in mind - the text is way too crowded and run together - IMHO for anyone, but especially for seniors who's eyes have degraded.

The short blurbs at the top should be a bulleted list - preferably with graphical bullets vs what you can do in html and lots of whitespace. It seems like you're using that for search engine food vs the visual perspective of your future members.

You have three major links right after the intro stuff - members, join and learn more.

These would perhaps be better served as smaller menu options for members to log in and then the join and learn more could be part of the copy - tell me more on the page, don't make me click to get it... then, after selling me, give me the join link.

The site feels compact vs open and relaxed - perhaps a little wider and a solid background vs the stripes. If I'm a technophobe, especially a senior, I don't want any more stress in this situation - heck, I've probably fought in a war, or held down the home front while my husband did - I don't want to admit that I can't do something or feel any more uneasy about it than I already do.

Make it comfortable - soft... lots of white space. Easy to read so I'm not straining my eyes.

Sorry to be a buzz kill, just sharing - I hope you take my thoughts in the positive light they are shared.

If you want to discuss, PM me, we can skype. I'm not selling you anything - I don't have time to do a design right now, but I'm happy to give you some more ideas.

    All success!

    Gary

Thanks for the input, this is the stuff I need to hear.

One thing about the join link is that I always try to get at least one above the fold because some people don't have any idea how to scroll down.

I like the simplicity of it. And it is a great idea, and I think it will do well.

When I clicked on the Learn More link and got taken to a video, I noticed the copy underneath.

Our videos are designed to work on all computers. If you can't see the video above, make sure you have Flash installed. If you need help, please feel free to email us at...
I think you need to, for the sake of getting sales, actually put in an explanation or a screenshot of how somebody can quickly check their computer to see if they have Flash installed. I know you would like their email address, but here is a fantastic opportunity to actually show what a good teacher you are, right there on your site, in a place where it matters. Even with an explanation or screen shot, you will probably still get some folks contacting you.

This may seem obvious, and perhaps I am missing the point, but how in the heck will somebody email you if they are afraid of their computer? Many of your potential clients do not know how to email, is that right? It's like the literacy council trying to reach out to illiterate people, what are they going to do, put up a poster that says, "Need help reading?"

You know - I do have a video about checking for Flash, I wonder where I put that...

As far as emailing us goes, well, I don't know. Maybe I should use a contact form instead. Good point. The last time I used a contact form it was spammed mercilessly, I don't know...

DUDE! Seniors use telephones!!!!!!! Put a space for their phone number on that contact form and outsource the call backs if they get to be too much?????????????? I mean you cannot make the email field required.....

Not trying to be critical.... just trying to think like a senior...

Just added a phone number field. I wonder if I should tell them that I usually sleep until noon.

Too funny! I am sure that anyone would be extremely grateful for the personal attention, and I bet that will get you some initial sales...

Oh yeah, one more thing. Better put a gigantic red flashing arrow pointing to your very nearly invisible start arrow on the tour video. You and I are accustomed to looking down in the left hand corner. But gray on black is not easy to see. Some seniors will click on the screen view and when nothing happens will click out of your site and be gone forever...

Hmm... yeah... not a bad idea. I'll have to see if there is an easy way to do that.

You have a great idea and are targeting it right in my opinion. You have the perfect photo with both age groups. I never would have thought about your coupon idea but I think that is brilliant for what you are starting. What about a way that a grandchild could easily forward a coupon to grandma and vice versa? Sort of like the "Tell a friend" scripts.

I don't have much to add about the look and feel of the home page that others have not said already. I do like that you are keeping it simple. It would be very tempting to keep adding more and more but I think you are on the right track.

Thank you, Janice. I like your idea, I'll have to think about that, I hadn't thought of that angle.

      Thanks a ton,

I love the concept and story about your grandparents!

I think the only link for current members should be on the bottom. After all, if they can't find it they have your personal cell phone number

I think the link to join now should be the only one above the picture. If you are using a lot of offline promotion some people may come to the site ready to buy and you don't want them to get lost.

The link to learn more should stay at the bottom. If people have read the entire page then they are ready to learn more.

Yeah I can't wait for the 6 AM phone calls to start pouring in! But then again, that's why people will join, I hope. They may never call but they'll like knowing that they can.

I think you are right about those links, I'm going to think about it a bit. Thanks.

I'm just a newbie, but I'm also a senior. I think this is a GREAT idea and I have no doubts you will go a long way with it. I'll tell you what I would have trouble with though. I wouldn't want to plunk $99 with without seeing a video or two first. I would suggest a person could buy any 10 videos for $10, or something like that. That way, someone could try it out before plunking a full $99 or more down. I think the prices are reasonable, but a lot of seniors are leary of computers in general, and trying it out for a smaller price first makes sense to me.

The more I think about it, you could sell these videos on more than one site. You could make a page that resembles a vending machine, or a juke box, and people could select the ones they want and buy them "ala carte". Just a thought.

Way ahead of you. I can repurpose these babies till the cows come home.
