Ezine article marketing question - Categories does it matter?

Hello!

I would like to know if putting articles in the exact category matters. I am in the IM market and so far have put all my articles under Internet Marketing.

Should I put them under the relevant category like: email marketing, forum, traffic building. Would I get a better clickthrough the resource box this way?

I would like to receive replies from experienced Ezine articles marketers.

Thanks

Let me ask you a question.

Why would you not want to put them in the most relevant category?

People looking for those specific categories are more likely to find your article
than if you just dump it into some generic category that has infinitely more
    articles in it.

Does this not logically make more sense?

      Hello Steven!

I am still very much a newbie and just go in the "Internet Marketing" section when I am looking for something. What you are saying is making complete sense and seeing that you are a " top author in Ezine" with 984 articles, I will definitely take your advice.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.

The short answer is yes! You should always try to put your articles into the most relevant category you can. Hello keywords! You're missing out on big bucks if you don't do this.

Most of the people reading your articles at EzineArticles won't have found them by going through their site navigation - they'll have come straight from Google or another search-engine, most likely. So what category they're in probably won't matter much from that perspective.

If article syndication is one of your aims for submitting to EZA, however, putting them in the correct (i.e. narrowed down as much as possible) category may help those looking to republish your articles, to find them. Again, though, some of those looking to take articles for republication are likely to be using EzineArticles' on-site/internal search-engine, and thus bypassing all the category navigation, anyway.

I'd just put them in the most suitable category. If that happens to be a narrow sub-category, then so be it. If not, opt for the main one.

I regularly use ezinearticles.com and always put my articles in the most suitable category. Like you, the vast majority of mine are related to internet marketing but I always choose the most relevant sub-category.

It doesn't seem to have had a negative impact on the number of article views I've had - nearly 2,000 in a relatively short amount of time.

I would agree with everything Michael said, and add one more point. You may attract more views by putting your articles in appropriate sub-categories. That is because it is easier to become one of the most-viewed articles in a sub-category with fewer articles than in a broad category.

Don't spend a lot of time agonizing over this category or that category, but do make an effort to put articles in appropriate categories.
