kunaki vs. CD-Fulfillment

I've been doing my research, and as far as I can tell, CD-Fulfillment can send out 1 CD for $3.99 and kunaki is $5.75 for the same.

Now, all over the warrior forum, people say that Kunaki is the better priced.

Can someone please tell me what I'm missing? I've use Kunaki before and like them, now I'm trying CD-Fulfillment (just getting started) and love their easy to follow instructions.

Please let me know if you'd tried either and your experience with either/both.

    Drew,

I went through the process of getting prices and actual product samples for Kunaki, Cd-Fulfillment, and Vervante.com about a year ago.

    1. For quality I preferred Vervante and Kunaki. The quality of the printed inserts and the actual face of the discs was not up to scratch on the ones I received from Cd-fulfillment. They blamed it on the printer running out of color but it wasn't just the colors. The actual material used for the printed sleeve was like cardboard and had perforations down one side. Not the most professional looking product for me.

    2. Kunaki does NOT allow you to add anything else with your orders. The advantage of Vervante.com is they allow you to also include printed materials with your package if need be. You can include a printed letter for only 5 cents per page. If you are sending out a CD or DVD to your customer then you are wasting a big opportunity if you don't also include an upsell or special offer letter to make some more sales.

    3. The disadvantage of Kunaki is they do NOT provide any customer service whatsoever - there is no one you can talk to about your orders. This didn't sit well with me. With Vervante you can contact them and you will always get a response from a real human being. This is something that is very important to me and was a big factor in why I ended up choosing Vervante.

    4. Vervante offer net 30 billing. This means they only bill you once every 30 days. So unlike with Kunaki and CD-fulfillment, you do NOT have to pay for the products straight up, before they are shipped. You can ship products to your customers and pay for them up to 30 days later. This makes doing business a lot easier. A lot of times you won't get your hands on the money from your customer instantly - it depends on the payment processor you use. With net 30 billing this doesn't matter. You can send out product and you only have to pay for them after you have already received all the money from your customers.

All in all I ended up choosing Vervante. Their prices are reasonable, the quality of product is great, you can add extra things to your orders (letters, books, etc), and they have real human beings you can talk to. They also take care of any returns or damaged goods so you don't have to. Every package you send out has a packing slip in it with a phone number and email address customers can contact if on the off chance they received a damaged or incorrect product. Vervante will then ship a replacement product straight out (free of charge) and you don't have to do a thing.

I don't want to list all the prices of the different services I researched as this was a while ago and some have probably changed. If you are interested in finding out more about Vervante and getting some price quotes and a sample sent out to you, send me a PM and I'll give you the email address of the lady who looks after me.

      WillR,
Thanks so much for this great info on fulfillment.

We looked at Kunaki as well but I hadn't seen a good review of Vervante.

One question I have is about "bad discs"...

Do you ever have customers email you to tell you that the discs won't play, are empty, scratched, etc?

      Thanks,

        Jack,

No I haven't really had any of those problems. Having said that, when you are dealing with on demand companies like this who are fulfilling hundreds, if not thousands of orders every day of the week, there is always going to be room for error. I don't think any company would be immune to mistakes like this.

Obviously it is not logistically possible for these companies to test out each and every cd/dvd before they are shipped - if they did then you would be paying a lot more for the service. Most of these companies are able to keep their prices so low because they have automated as much of the process as possible.

I think the best thing to do is make sure the company you go for does a good job of dealing with problems like these when and if they arise. I think customers understand that errors like the ones you mentioned do occur. As long as they have an easy way to resolve the issue then I think most customers should be very understanding.

Thanks Will for clarifying the same type of questions I had as Coyotex. Kunaki's customer service is email only I believe and definitely not by telephone, their website explicitly says this.

I just received an email from Vervente staff and I liked their response. My question I had for them were what shopping cart their customers used. They said 90% of people use 1shoppingcart.

I am leaning towards Nanacast shopping cart though. I am wondering what everyone else is using with these two services.

Yes, I used 1shopping cart. It makes the fulfillment a very easy process. You can go into your 1 shopping cart account and add the Vervante order email address they give you to the order notification emails that get sent out. This way whenever a sale is made an email is automatically sent to Vervante with all the order details and they will send out your product in the next 2-4 days I believe.

I am pretty certain Nanacast is set up to integrate in the same way with Vervante? I think Josh would be the best person to clarify that for us.

I'm using Vervante for my business and they are great. A bit pricier than Kunaki but they are real humans that you can email back and forth. A1 service.

So far, CD-fulfillment is doing really well for me. I integrated with PayPal and I don't have to touch a thing. There response to my questions (and a lot of them were stupid questions!) has been outstanding.

The only complaint I have so far is that I haven't done enough business to make the actually work hard for me! LOL!

I haven't used any of the others but for me kunaki has been great yes they do not have any customer service but on occasions when my CD was either not delivered or the wrong CD was delivered all i did was send an email and they always sent another copy out.

Another advantage is i have a script hooked up to kunaki and paypal that fills out all my orders on autopilot that way i do not need to sit down filing in orders all day.

Also for CDs i sell amazon kunaki will dropship to amazon and if you buy 500 CDs or more shipping is free and each CD only costs $1.75 now if that isn't a bargain what is.

  • Kunaki is great if you need to get DVD's or CD's out but if you need a course you need a fulfillment company like Virtual Media (the one I use) or disk.com is another popular one?

Yes disk.com is another popular one and I also looked into doing some work with them when I did all my original research. Their pricing is not so great when you are dealing with small quantities as is the case with most people just starting out.

I know some marketers such as Kern and Filsaime have used disk.com in the past however these were for some of those free plus shipping launches where they would order 1,000 kits for the launch because they knew they would sell them all. At that sort of quantity disk.com can be a good alternative.

If you want to do the whole drop shipping thing you will need to order a minimum quantity of a few hundred products which they then warehouse and ship on demand for you.

At Vervante, do you have to create an account with your credit card before you can find out their prices? I cant seem to find on their website what they charge for their services

How does physical shipment work, in terms of the process,
from Sales page -> package arrives in persons house?

in terms of what I have to do?

      Is this the procedure?

Step 1} Bob purchases my Physcal CDROM product on my sales page

Step 2} The sales credit card details get entered on a merchant account page

Step 3} These details are passed onto the fullfilment company

Step 4} This company ships the item to the address he stated

      or is that wrong?

No fullfilment company does Money ordering + Shipping themslves, and they are seperate processes?

The prices are not listed on their website. You will need to send them an email with exactly what you need and they will give you the appropriate quote.

I have bought at least one high-end information product in the real estate niche that was produced and shipped by Vervante, and I must say that the quality of the overall package was pretty impressive, and this bears out what has been stated on this thread.

I've used both Kunaki and CD-Fulfillment and both were good but... to ship one CD international with CD-Fulfillment was going to cost me $15-20. My customers are worldwide so that doesn't suit me.

Does anyone recommend a fulfillment company that has longer capacity? Or can CDs only take 80 minutes? I have an audio book of about 5 hours, I was hoping to have the audio on one or two disks, I wonder if this is possible, would people really want a big set of CDs? Maybe CDs only can take 80 minutes, so maybe I don’t have a choice. I've found fulfillment companies just searching Google, reelpicture.com, allthingsfulfilling.com, www.mndigital.com etc. but it would be great to see if anyone has a review. Are these discussed on this thread the main ones ? Kunaki, Vervante and CD-Fulfillment?

I have heard of CD-Fulfillment and have planned on using them while recording the product, but then just looked and it's a 79 or 80 minute limit for a CD. Trepstar also has a similar minute limit per CD.

If it’s data on DVD, it would be a data disk, right? I’m trying to find something that will play on ipods, CD players, car stereos, etc.

I also wonder if these Fulfillment services have minimum orders? My audiobook may sell only a few copies to start, or a few dozen.

What is the site for Virtual Media? It can't be www.virtualmedia.com since there's no site there.

Virtual Media went tits up last year screwing their customers that had paid for inventory to be produced and warehoused in the process. USPFulfillment took over their business and remaining inventory but I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. They are criminals.

Kunaki's minimum is 1 unit. Should cost around $6 including shipping. Would recommend biting the bullet and having multiple normal duration CDs - otherwise you risk machines not being able to play your files and high refunds, combined with po'd customers. 4 or 5 discs will have a higher perceived value too so may actually do you a favor

When the audio CD first came on the market, the designers set up a standard of 44.1 Khz at a 16 bit bit-depth, and 74 minutes.

This 74 minutes is the standard. Then Tayio Yuden invented the writable CD onto which you could record 80 minutes of audio, but some audio CD players cannot play 80 min CDs. The CD in automobile I had two automobiles ago had a difficult time with 80 min CDs.

An audio CD format that goes past 80 min doesn't exist. That said, there is a higher standard of 96 khz at 24bit bit depth used in recording studios, and I believe that is what is used on Blue-ray discs. They can go longer, (as will DVDs), but can't be played in a standard CD player.

Some automobiles can play mp3 files. My current on can. For those a data disc works. Mine even plays DVDs in DVD format or DVDs with mp3 files on them, but most automobile player can't play DVDs unless there is a television in the backseat area for passengers.
