How can I monetize my blog?

Hi everyone,
I've got a blog at: http://www.akosblog.com (about blogging, seo, internet marketing and web design).
I'm running Amazon Affiliate ads on it, but they don't make anything.
Can you give some tips on monetizing my blog.
Thanks in advance.

The main thing I can tell you about monetizing your blog is to not put too many affiliate links on it. Also, be sure to cloak your affiliate links. This is so important. Hope this helps....

Use some of that valuable real estate in the sidebar to promote products related to the topics you write about.

Sign up for affiliate programs and add some banners etc.

do some ventures with other marketers promoting their link. So if they make 'x' amount you would also benefit.

Try adsense but you'll need traffic first.

Advertise affiliate links and promote services online

Eventually create your own product. I recommend getting david risleys' (google) updated report - he has some great tips about monetising, his business angle on blogging is strong.

To monetize a blog normally people go for ppc ads but even before that you should have a steady stream of traffic to your blog. Then the best ways to make money from your blog depend on the type of blog you have. Affiliate marketing is a top way to monetize a blog, too. And remember you have to add no-follow to all affiliate links, text ad links according to Google policies.

Surprisingly enough, noone here has mentioned a "resources" page, yet. This will give you the opportunity to subtly promote products that you (should) actually use yourself. People have to click through a tab, which shows that they, at the very least, have the willingness to "click". Getting them to click on affiliate links, that can be helpful to them, should be a breeze with a resource page.

I agree, have in 'Resources' or 'Tools of the Trade' page can be a great way to list a whole bunch of affiliate links that you think would be useful to your readers.

There are many ways to monetize your site, you just have to find out what's going to work for you. This unfortunately with be a matter of trial and error.

Here are some things to look into:
        1. contextual adds
        2. direct add sales
        3. subscriptions
        4. donations
        5. affiliate marketing
        6. selling your own product**

Of course selling your own stuff can take some time. You'll have to find out what your market wants and needs and then package that bad boy up.

Subscription is always another good way of getting recurring income... the only downside is that you'll have to keep it up on an ongoing basis to make sure your members continue to get value from it.

        Good luck!

        • Blogging for bucks is very different from writing review websites. I like to think of it as using a net instead of a spear for fishing.

With the net, you can keep your fish around for a long time in a little pool or something and get them to continually buy from you over time. Any time you want to sell you simply cast your net and see what fish you catch from your pool.

For spear fishing, you are an expert at making that one time sale off someone who has never even seen you before.

Do you get traffic to your blog? If so, is it a lot?

For this kind of monetization (i.e. - just having links on your blog and hoping people click on them - similar to adsense), IMO, you've got to either have:

1 - a helluva lot of traffic (since the percentage of that traffic that clicks is usually pretty small)

2 - very highly targeted traffic (and then hope the stuff that you're promoting is what they're looking for...think a review site for a particular digital camera, then an amazon affiliate link for said camera)

Could be a case of option A combined with too much generality, IMO.

Instead, why don't you pick a few good specific products to promote, then gear every XX posts to drive people to that product?

For example, say you wanna pitch a product on SEO. Do a series of blog posts about SEO, leading up to one that has a pitch like "hope all this has helped, if you want something that will give you all the nuts & bolts of SEO that you really need to know, check out (insert link here)".

IMO, you'd have a much better chance at good conversions than just putting stuff up there and hoping people click.

I will tell you the most important thing for monetizing your blog. The secret is traffic. If you get a few people a day, you won't make much money. Many would disagree with me, but if you have lots of web traffic, you can make money with various things. Your best bet is Adsense. It may take a few tries to optimize your site for adsense, but once you have accomplished this, you will make good money. Again, assuming you have lots of traffic.

Other options to monetize your blog include affiliate programs and selling your own info products. You should check out pepperjam network and commission junction. These are really good and offer you tons of affiliate products. Amazon Associates is pretty good too.

Lastly, if you write your own eBook or create instructional videos, you can make good money. Your visitors will buy your product as long as you are genuinely involved in helping them and provide good usable lessons.

I would try to build a list by giving something of value away for free. As far as your site design, I think the two columns are too much... try one maybe.

You me personally I would monetize the site mainly with adsense. For the simple fact it looks like mmost of your keywords are going to be related to seo in one way shape or form. There for the payouts per click should be rather good in the long run. However I would also add in a few clickbank products to make up for those low click days. As some one else mentioned already you should think about cloaking your links.

Simply go get pretty links plugin this way you can cloak your links when you need to do so. For a market like seo amazon really isnt going to be the best bet in my eyes. I would stick with clickbank and or other affiliate market places. You should be able to find some good seo affiliate sites on click bank. Then just slap a few banners up their in your sidebar and you should do pretty good. Best of luck to you.

I have just one question: Is adsense is the only program which pay outs for clicks?? Because others pays you when u make a selling from them (for CPA).

Hey guys, just thought I would add that unless your hosting your blog on a domain name that you own, I would be a little wary of filling it with affiliate links, some blog providers don't like this so much and may even pull your blog down because of it.....just a thought.
