How Much Would You Pay for Coaching?

Everyone has a different idea of what coaching is and thats why you see such a wide variety of prices.
You are right about those who have built their brand being able to charge bigger prices.
For you - You need to determine how much your time is worth, how much time you want to give to your students (even emails take time to answer) and then determine how many students you can support.
Once you know the answer to those questions then its easy to figure out how much to charge.

I charge $650 per month and its pretty much 1 to 1 coaching. Doing it that way, I can't take very many people at the same time.
It takes a lot of time and it doesn't seem to matter if they are newbies or experienced web people - it all takes time. I've had days where I was several hrs on skype with the same person while they were learning a new skill or to complete a task or even to brainstorm the best direction to take to reach their goals.

True coaching (in my opinion) involves evaluating where your "student" is at with their skills and knowledge related to the goal you are trying to help them achieve.
So for someone in my coaching program, I first evaluate what their present skill/knowledge level is and what THEIR goals are and we come up with a plan to reach those goals.

Everyone works at a different pace and how much they accomplish depends on what they know now, the time they can devote to learning, their goals and their learning style.

I have participated in "coaching" programs where I knew more than my instructor. I've also participated in some very expensive programs where you were given a video, a workbook and a forum and thats it - that one I didn't consider that to be a real coaching program (there was no personal interaction between the student and the instructor)

You might want to evaluate if you are really offering a coaching program or something else as most people will expect a big portion of your time if its a coaching program.

Take on a couple students at a reduced rate to test your system. It will show you how much time is required of you which will help you determine what your price should really be.

Like I said, my goal with this coaching program I plan to roll out is to make it affordable so almost anyone out there can afford it.

I understand your need to keep it affordable. I think everyone ... well most people would like to keep it affordable.
The sad reality is, there are not enough hours in the day to help everyone.

My point is, just be careful. If you are like me, its really easy to over deliver and then before you know it - you don't have time for everyone. People will complain.

Just pick a couple people and do a test run. You will learn lots that way.

Lance, I agree with what you're saying, but here's the way I see it:

A lot of people out there are looking to make money online. For some reason, people who are fairly new to making money online think that it requires tons and tons of money upfront to be successful. I don't know why, but that just seems to be the rep that making money online gets.

So, the way I see it in my mind, why not charge them a little upfront to teach them techniques and skills that they will be able to use from here on out that won't cost them a dime to implement?

I think someone would be more apt to pay a one-time fee to learn something that could generate income for the long-term with minimal continued investment. Sure, there will be investments down the line to some extent (i.e. hosting, domains, etc.), but nothing that will require a ton of capital using this method of marketing.

I guess I should've reworded my original post. I'm not looking for complete newbies in a sense, but actually those people who either have just started article marketing or who are in it, enjoy it, but are frustrated because they aren't making any money and want to learn the fundamentals and an exact process in creating an income using this method.

I recently sent out an e-mail to my list (all bum marketers), and got a fairly decent response about a coaching program, which lead me to create the entire program, but I was just trying to find a happy medium in what I should charge.
