I have a domain name which is available that I am thinking of getting about some health tips but would the word "free" at the beginning help it or should I save that for the title. I am new and trying to learn as much as I can.

  • Just was wondering if that would help any or maybe hurt being found.
  • The problem with putting free at the beginning of the domain is that it is much more unlikely that your traffic will be buyers, though you will get more traffic. So it is up to you; more traffic but less conversions or less (but better converting) traffic.

    • I think if you are giving something away - such as tips or a free ebook you could use the name free in your domain.

Something you could try is to give some free advice and add sellable items in your posts as well. I would say you should test this and maybe ask other people here in WF if they have had an success with that idea.

I too feel that it would attract people who look for free stuff - but the question is - can or do they buy? I would think some may.

  • I have some adsense ads and an affiliate link that I have so I was thinking of getting as much traffic as I can and then maybe the ads will get them to buy.
  • If it is an adsense model then I would definitely use the word free, because you aren't going to sell anything.

  • Mike, don't obsess too much over the domain name - as long as it is relevant to what you're offering, just go ahead and use it. Don't spend too much time overanalyzing these little details, as you're wasting time and could be missing out on untold profits while you're mulling over this for too long.

  • Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate everyone's input.
  • I'd advise you to consider long tail keywords and target a domain with that, and also avoid hyphens unless you are absolutely sure you can rank on page 1, spot 1, because people dont type hyphens.

    • I would only use free if it was something for free. It can be misleading so I would leave it out if your trying to make a commission.

  • I was looking at these:

    exercise and nutrition tips
    free exercise and nutrition tips
    secret fitness tips
  • I'd try "diet and nutrition tips" as my long tail keyword.
  • Which would be better as a domain name?

    Freeexerciseandnutritiontips.
    exerciseandnutriontips.
    secretfitnesstips.
  • The second one as people wont add a prefix of "secret" for the keyword, even if they do the global monthly search would be low compared to the 2nd one.
