Is manual submission to article directories better than using tools?

Is it better to submit to one main article directory, maybe another one or two of the biggest than say submit to multiple ones using submission tools? Would I be missing out if I don't use these submission tools? I guess what I'm trying to get at is how effective are these tools?

Submission tools are really useful. There's a pretty healthy debate over whether you should use them or do your submissions manually. Depending on which tool you're using, they can be a bit finicky, especially if the article directory makes changes.

As for whether to use the main directories, or to use multiple, I use multiple - there's absolutely no penalty for more exposure (and more backlinks). My take has always been that more is better.

It kind of depends on what you are looking for with your submissions. If you want people to read your articles and take some action as a result of reading them, you can probably do that by just submitting them to the big directories.

If your intention is more to put up a lot of articles online mostly for the backlinks, then a submission tool is probably what you are looking for.

I manually submit to about 5-10 of the bigger article directories and then submit to multiple ones using a submission tool. I usually make a few changes to the article before using the submission tool, although it amynit be necessary.
