Now, I Understand... The PayPal Slap To Your Customers...

Hey All,

Yesterday, I was sending a $100 payment out for something I planned to purchase, and as the payment was going through... I received an e-mail from paypal that my account had been limited, and that the payment had been subsequently taken for investigation.

I called PayPal and sorted it all out, but I had to think about something... When as a vendor, we get these kinds of things, like the payment being reversed, we tend to get mad at the consumer... But, I think it bares remembering that it's not there fault, its paypal reviewing there account.

You can bet they want the payment to work just as much as you do... So the next time, a customer has a payment reversed... Don't just blow them off as someone "disputing", remember that they may not even want this situation.

Just thought this bared mentioned.

    Caleb...

    Nothing new from PayPal here.

They'll limit the account if they think something is suspicious, but it seems everything is suspicious to them.

Paypal I find are prety good at dealing with problems over the phone, through email they are terrible.

All their emails are automated, I had a dispute opened where the buyer had claimed against me one month saying the item was not as described, he lost and forgot to cancel his recurring payment. He then got charged again and said it was unauthorised, which is obviously utter BS. The paypal resolution area gave me no option but to refund and nothing else. I called paypal, within 5 days the money was back in my account, no questions asked.

I think their system sometimes does the talking and makes automaed bad decisions, but if you get a human to step in from paypal, they sort it out well and quick.

A quick tip, if you hate the automated system, get to your area by saying paypal dispute and keep saying Agent, over and over again, you will then get put through

LOL aint that the truth! I think you make an excellent point Caleb, I myself expierenced this. A lady sent me payment and the next day the money is on hold. It was a small amount and I wasn't too worried about it, but I did want to know what was going on...especially since this was a donation for some time I'd given her.

Had no problem refunding her the money but for some reason that wasn't good enough for paypal...oh well. It finally cleared, I kept the money and the lady explained she had nothing to do with the hold and apologized.

I think as you've already stated, its important to note that the lack of follow through with payment is NOT always the customers fault or in their control. Great thread.

    Caleb,

I don't think your issue is fully resolved as of yet - I just checked my paypal account and I don't see the $100 from you.

Paypal has their issues, and we love to bash them, but show me an alternative...

Yes, you can get your own merchant account, but it sure makes it easy (most of the time!) to have paypal as an option.

    Thoughtful post sir.
