New site goes from rank 56th to N/A in 24 hours

I launched a site on 11/29 (www . susie-orman . com) that got indexed fairly quickly in google (about 6 hours after some social bookmarking) at position 56. It stayed there for broad and phrase match for 1-2 days and then dropped from the index.

Never had this happen before. Should I give it a couple weeks and assume google is just reshuffling (some others sites moved around unexpectedly but for good), or should I be concerned.

Any insight, feedback would be welcome.

Thanks,

Chris

Not sure; but maybe it has something to do with the fact that the name and the theme is VERY close to a site owner with a very similar name: Suze Orman who has a PR 6 website. Possibly someone thought you were duplicating her information?

Edited: I did a Google ban check using this tool:

    http://www.selfseo.com/google_ban_tool.php

And it appears that your site has been banned.

Yeah, I'd be real concerned about that.

Contact google immediately, and find out what's going on.

nothing to worry about. it happens with new websites all the time after social bookmarking. they tend to rank quite high for a couple of days and then disappear. it's some 'feature' of the google algorithm, related to how they handle news. you site will come back properly indexed in a few days, not so high in google though, so concentrate on building backlinks.

Thanks everyone. Two things I've learned. Never panic. Spend time learning the details of "good" vs "bad" site. I checked my webmaster tools in google and they are saying that the site has been indexed but no pages are indexed.

I'll sit on it for a while and focus on backlinks.

    Thanks!

Yep...don't worry at all. Google reshuffles all the time. Seregap is correct...concentrate on making tons of backlinks so you can give the google spiders some food! Its called "A bread Trail."

Even if your website is banned, it's easy to get a top placement in Google for your keywords by using an article from a High PR article directory or a Squidoo lens or some such thing that already has good Search Engine Positioning. With the right backlinks and keyword, you could be on page one of Google and stay there. My own article moved up almost 11 MILLION spots, and that's with HUGE competition.

Having a site be banned or de-indexed by Google is not the end of the world, as it's easy to get top placement, anyway.

If your website has been banned you may have to submit a reconsideration request. See video

Great feedback and advice. Thank you. I got picked back up in the index at 46... time to focus on backlinks.

    Thanks again.

Does this tool really mean "banned"? That seems harsh, especially since google drops sites all the time just to pick them up a few days later. All part of the madness. I wouldn't get too concerned about this. Just don't spam your links and make sure to get some decent ones too.

I would not worry about it as this is normal. I have had many new sites, articles, blogs, squidoo lenses dissapear from the listings a few days after they have been ranking well in google. I then just focus on building backlinks for the sites and when they re appear they rank higher and tend to stick longer.

      Cheers

    It happens all the time.

Add some content, change your anchor text and get a steady trickle of new links....

It always comes back a few days or a week later.

    Chris,

Yeah, that's happened to me also...I would get to the first few pages of Google after bookmarking and some linking, and then nowhere to be found again. Just continue to build links to the site and you will see the listing return. I heard that you shouldn't build no more than 20 links per day to any one site.

I don't know. I have a feeling all that tool does is do a search of site:yourdomain.com. If there aren't any results it says "your site may be banned or may be new". If there are results it says "your site isn't banned. Click here for results" then goes to results of a search of site:yourdomain.com. Then they sell the script for $9.95. :-) I don't think the script or tool can tell you if the site is banned or not.
