Full Time IMers, How Do You Spend Your Day?

*Warning, this is a long post*

Actually it is kind of a medium post, I just wanted to get your attention.

Hey everyone, I hope this doesn't come off as a dumb post, but I have an opportunity to really dive in to IM full time and hopefully get something going, so I am looking for a little advice from everyone.

I got into internet marketing about 8 months ago, but have only earned roughly $60.00. Originally, I just found HTML kind of fun and wanted to make a website for kicks, but than I gradually learned that you can make money on the web, and eventually I stumbled upon the warrior forum and from there I basically decided that this is what I want to do for a living.

I guess I did go through my phase of thinking you can make quick money on the internet, but that quickly faded and luckily I realized that it takes a lot of hard work and that is partially what this thread is about.

I have heard horror stories of people spending multiple thousands of dollars on the next best course that promises to teach you how to earn hundreds per day on clickbank, or how to cash in big with google adsense.

Sure maybe some people get lucky, but I think 90% of people that fall into this trap will never make it work. I have purchased only a couple of WSO and honestly they taught me very much about building backlinks and on-page SEO.

So to get to my query, I would really love a good bit of simple advice from some internet marketers that do this full time for a living. But before I do let me just say a few things about where I am at in my IM career.

First off, I have roughly 6 or 7 sites, but I only work with about 4 of them. A few of them are test sites, and I purchased those domains when I was first starting out and wasn't very good at keyword research. They really aren't worth doing much with. (My writing has come a long way since then) I am honestly kind of embarrassed with them.

I do have a business plan, and eventually I would like to build some authority sites but I don't know enough about some aspects of web design at this time to really get going in that.

OK, enough chat about my silly sites, here are my questions and keep in mind that I am not trying to get anyone to tell me their secrets (not that anyone would), I am simply trying to figure out and build a good schedule for my day. I really enjoy spending my time working on this business, I just loathe spending all my time working for others. *I live in Alaska and work out in the blistering cold.............*

Actually I should mention that my wife and I are having our first child, which incidentally is allowing me to take some time of work through FMLA. I opted to take at least two months off, and this is really why I am trying to build a good work schedule for myself.

So here goes with my main questions:

How many hours per day do you spend building backlinks? Or do you outsource them? This whole subjects gives me craps!!!

*I read a nice Ebook from a fellow warrior that gave me a much better understanding of how google views backlinks*

Basically it is my fault, I don't really know how to go about getting backlinks, and therefore my traffic is low. If anyone would be kind enough to maybe give me a rough idea of what I should be doing to get traffic, that would be awesome.

I have a feeling though, that I am going to get a tongue lashing for doing this for 8 months and only making $60.00

I really like adding content to my sites, but I just can't seem to understand the whole process of submitting my content to RSS feeds, or Social websites, and making bookmarks.....

I have used Social Marker alot, but I hate it and don't really understand how the whole thing works. I hate to admit it, but that is the truth.

The sad thing is I have learned many things about web design and IM except the traffic part, which involves social bookmarking and web 2.0 sites. I absolutely hate "FACEBOOK"!

But I think I am more or less a stick in the mud. I am 29 years old but act like a 60 year old!

Writing articles to gain backlinks is alright but gets a bit repetitive. And just so you know, I do understand the whole duplicate content Vs syndicated contented debate.

I don't ever use Ezine articles (although I should) simply because it takes so long for them to review material. I much prefer getting articles on my site indexed first and then submitting articles to about 5 other sites. Articlesbase being my favorite.

*I could use a nice slap in the face because I have content, but I am not doing a very good job of promoting it!!!!!!!!*

Here is a list of the sites I actually care about:

www.bestguitaramplifiers.(dot)net *first amazon review site*

www.myguitarlessonsforbeginners.(dot)com *rather sloppy*

www.bestkayaksforsale.(dot)net *like this one actually*

www.learnastronomy.(dot)net *favorite, have Javescript stuff*

In about a month, our boy will be born and I know it is going to be tough, but I also realize that I will have the freedom to work on my IM like never before.

Who ever decided that working ten hours a day for another company is what we were destined to do?????

I wish I could punch them in the face!!!!

Sorry this thread has taken so long. I am simply looking for:

Time spent gaining backlings:

Time spent writing original content:

Time spent learning about search engines:

Time spent creating products:

Time spent emailing your list:

Time spend realizing that you need a List???

I don't have a list, and I am not sure if I need one.... I am simply wondering how others spend their time....

First, that was actually a long post. Second, congrats for being a father. It is going to be the best job in the world.

Here is how I schedule my day when it comes to my IM business. Usually I will plan my weekly schedule on a Friday because that is the best time to plan ahead while the things I have done over that week is still fresh on my mind.

So everyday, I don't have to think about what I need to do, I already know what I need to do the moment I wake up.

My daily tasks revolves around these four areas and these four areas only.

    - Content Creation
    - Copy Writing
    - List building
    - Finding affiliates

Each day, I plan to do about 4 tasks and each task I give myself 2 hours to complete. This give me the flexibility to keep my work and family life balance.

So for example, if I am planning to write an ebook, my tasks will go like this:

    - Write and finalize my ebook
    - Create ebook cover (or outsorce)
    - Create sales page
    - Draft an email to my list to announce about the launch
    - Draft an email to my affiliates to let them know about the new book and how they can sell them.

Basically everyday, everyday my job is to take small steps towards a big objective.

One thing to keep in mind though is that everyone work differently. Some are great at pilling up tasks and work like crazy to finish them while others, like me tend to spend 2 hours on tasks that might need 1 hour. It doesn't matter, you must find a working style that suits you.

Lastly, bear in mind that you should be looking at progression, as long as you find yourself progressing, you are moving ahead.

    Good luck!

Well, most of the time I'm lying on the beach Kidding.

I post lots of content on my blogs, earn by selling my products, affiliate products and AdSense. And yes, you need to build your lists on the way!

      Good luck.

Don't get caught up with exact match domains if that is why you feel some of your sites aren't worth much. They are overrated.

I do have a business plan, and eventually I would like to build some authority sites but I don't know enough about some aspects of web design at this time to really get going in that.
You could build an authority site with the default twentyten wordpress theme if you set your mind to it. Plenty of authority sites are using wordpress.

I am simply trying to figure out and build a good schedule for my day.
One of the most important things you can do.

Basically it is my fault, I don't really know how to go about getting backlinks, and therefore my traffic is low. If anyone would be kind enough to maybe give me a rough idea of what I should be doing to get traffic, that would be awesome.
Look for Mark Hess's WSO on outsourcing backllinks, it's cheap and it's good information. If you can spare $20 a week, that's all you need to get started.

I don't ever use Ezine articles (although I should) simply because it takes so long for them to review material. I much prefer getting articles on my site indexed first and then submitting articles to about 5 other sites. Articlesbase being my favorite.
A lot of people fall into this trap. Don't. Just start submitting. As often as you can. Who cares if it takes them a while to get around to approving them. If you keep a steady schedule you'll reach a point where you have articles showing up daily.

It's not a schedule, just some hastily writen random advice.

Lol are you a politician by any chance

I am not going to generally answer the questions above as they probably aren't revevant to most established online businesses, what you'll be doing as a full time marketer is not what non full time marketers think we do.

Ok lets get to the basics...

First off you need to work out what your core business is and spend the majority of your time on that... just doing the activities that generate your income.

Secondly, you need to know what your daily living expenses are ... and make sure you do tasks that make you more than these. I generally work on a figure of my daily expenses +50% as a target. Obviously you will have days where you vastly exceed this and other days where you probably just match your expenses so average it out daily, weekly and monthly.

You need to revise this figure regularly as the more you earn the more your expenses go up.

Generally I'll sit down on a monday morning and check my stats for last week.

I check various metrics, such as

    Income generated.

New sign ups (less any cancellations)

    Subscribers added to email lists.

there are about 7 of these most of which are related to my core business.

If any of those areas need attention I'll create a weekly plan around that.

If they don't then I'll work on various ongoing projects which for me are generally based around my current products. Plus 1 or two future products.

    Thats the big picture.

Other tasks I'll do on a monday are order content from my writers for my existing sites.

On a daily basis I'll then check the content has been posted correctly a check support calls, schedule any interview requests , skype calls etc.

Personally I don't spend time emailing my lists, i don't promote other people products and most of my advice and reports i give away are in an auto responder sequence.

Thanks again everyone I am going to check out that WSO from Mark Hess. I guess my biggest problem is I enjoy adding content to my sites, but not working on getting traffic.

A couple of them are amazon review sites, and a couple have some clickbank products I am promoting. I don't think I have any targeted traffic, lots of amazon clicks but no purchases.

Thank you as well to Mark Thompson, I would like to create a product but am pretty clueless how to go about it.

This post had too many words for me to read, but I assume that you want to know how I spend my days.

Product Enhancement - Enhancing the products that I already have on the market. This makes new customers happy and previous customers happier.

Product Creation - I always have the wheels turning on new products.

Joint Venturing - Kiss the asses that need kissing and convince the people that contact me that my ass needs kissing. It's a little more complex than that, but you get the gist.

Homework - I help my daughter with her math homework every night.
