My Fiverr career is over before it even got started.

I finally got around to adding a 'gig' on Fiverr to write 300 word content for $5 seeing if there would be any takers. Yup, I got one.

He sent a message full of info and said he wanted (eventually) lots of articles. So I chose one of the keywords related to his topic and sent him a really good article (even he said it was good). But he responded in the 'feedback' email on Fiverr that it wasn't what he asked for!

I wrote back that I understood from the information he sent, that I could write an article with any ONE of the keywords and I did. He had supplied so many and it was after all, only 300 words. It wouldn't have made sense to include ALL the information in one article, nor would it have been actually possible.

This fella was not familiar with SEO and keywords and the purpose of SEO articles on a website. He just wanted 'stuff' about this subject on his site. So I had to educate him a little.

Thing is, I wrote the article, he left a 'bad' review (with a thumbs up!) on my feedback, I wrote him another article to make him happy (which he also said was very good - NOT in the public feedback) and then I got a notice that the Fiverr payment was cancelled! And another followup email from the guy that he is going to ask for more articles!

So he gets 2, 300 word articles that he says are good, I have bad feedback and a cancelled payment.

No one else is going to ask me to write for them based on what he wrote in the public feedback that should have been a private message. So ends my writing career on Fiverr because he used the wrong email form and didn't understand SEO.

Hate to hear that. I have had this kind of experience on Fiverr before. I use to write resumes on Fiverr and got a good few sample. Then I took it off because writing resumes is worth more than $5.

Never had a bad experience like you did. Sorry for your troubles.

I'm so sorry to hear about your ugly experience on fiverr. Thanks for sharing your story - I have one Gig on fiverr and I'll take all the precautions necessary not to fall into the hands of such a scammer.
I had a similar experience as a freelancer with an ungrateful client - though not as bad as yours, Thank God.
I suggest you set up a blog, start posting articles, and show people what you're worth. Also, refuse to take gigs or jobs where you're offered too little. Many IT people treat freelancers like slaves. Your experience on fiverr was online slavery!

Sorry that happened. Feedback can be removed. Since he said he was going to ask for more, can you write him and ask him to remove the feedback?
Another option, can you open a new Fiverr account?

And finally, I would google the articles and see if he used them. If he did I would write Fiverr and ask for the money.

Sheeesh..some people are over the top.

I wouldn't base your opinion of Fiverr on that one experience! Get up and try again- persistence is how you succeed with internet marketing. There are great opportunities on Fiverr, but if you don't feel it's worth it, then don't bother.

Oh no - I hate it when things like this happen - in the same way I hate it when someone buys something through paypal only to reverse the payment-

It is only a handful of people that do this and its been very unfortunate that you got hit by one on the first order

Hope you will not be put off and instead bounce back stronger

    thanks

I believe that you mustn't let someone like that get away with this. File a complaint against that buyer with fiverr and with paypal. You can use his private message as evidence.
If you've found that he's used your articles then sue him. Use the articles you wrote for this scammer on your own blog and/or sell them to ezine.

      Good Luck!

I've read this before - someone wasn't paid for their work - and same recommendation - "use the articles yourself and sell them if you can" seems to be the VERY best solution.

I think you ought to complain, too - it's the bad reputation of course, not the darned four bucks. If people like this AREN'T showed up to be who they are and how they behave, then they will go on doing it!

Can you see whether he is using your articles?

    Lesson Learned.

I don't understand (still) why people who think asking for $5 will eventually
turn a client into a big customer, but it's RARELY the case.

Sure, there are a few WSO's on here who, depending on what they offer,
can turn a $5 deal into a multi-hundred or thousand dollar deal, it's the ex-
    ception, not the rule.

    Keep this in mind:

It's 100x easier to sell to someone who has the money to invest in your ar-
ticle writing service than it is to sell someone on the "idea" of doing business
with you in the long term from such a small transaction.

The ONLY time I dealt with something like that in your situation, was when I
didn't value MY service enough to market it elsewhere and ASK for more and
improve myself at the same time.

When I deal with big clients, it's the easiest thing in the world -- but it's hard
to imagine it so when you look at "price" as the factor as to rather or not some-
one will spend REAL money on you or not -- and it ALL has to do with mindset
and your willingness to get better so you start to BELIEVE your writing ability
is one of the best services out there.

    But it starts with you.

I know you're looking for a shoulder to cry on, but you must pick yourself up &
    get yourself together.

I've hired several people on fiverr for more expensive and longer term deals who first provided $5 services for me. If it hadn't been for fiverr I would never have known about them.

It can happen ... but my guess is that it didn't, necessarily, this time. What matters most is the thumbs-up/thumbs-down you get, because (a) those are what people look at, and (b) many people even search according to those (which they make very easy to do there). In short, "Don't panic, Captain".

Very, very, very rarely indeed. If ever.

What happens when you write for low prices is that you attract clients who are looking for "a writer with low prices". However good your work, when you try to put the prices up, you're going to lose almost all of them, because there are 100 other writers with those same, low prices, and quality (given the most basic level of competence and English fluency in the writer) is barely a consideration at all to those customers.

Competing on price, and even "starting low, intending to raise prices", are generally mistakes.

I'm sorry to say but I'm not a big fan of fiverr myself and don't really recommend newbies get involved with them.

Personally there isn't much that I can think of that falls within $5 unless it's cheap, unprofessional, badly researched, fast turn around, etc, etc. I could go on but I'm sure you get my drift.

If you count all the time you invest in the project it isn't worth it. If it does take you an hour to "COMPLETELY" finish a project, then a McDonald's worker is making more than you. And if you "COMPLETE" more then 1 project in an hour then quality would have to suffer in my opinion.

I could be wrong but the only way to verify would be for me to actual purchase something off fiverr, for my own evaluation, which is highly unlikely so I'm left to my assumptions. And judging from prior post here concerning people posting there experiences on fiverr, it would seem to be fairly close to accurate.

      I disagree.

Fiverr is a great, and continuing source of income for me. The problem is people still refuse to follow some basic tenets when creating gigs.

      1) Automate the process if possible, and never anything that takes more than 20mins.

      2) Check buy feeder back, and rating before buying a gig.

      3) Cancel bad clients.

I have no problem with canceling clients that are demanding more than the gig offered. There is no point in trying to deal with them, and you only risk a spiteful ranking that might hurt your feedback score.

    Thanks for the feedback, all.

I know I write well and can sell for more than $5. I wanted to see how well I could manage writing on a variety of subjects quickly, which is why I tried Fiverr. I'm not trying to get rich from it!

I might open another account on Fiverr and try again. I'm not so discouraged I'm crying about it, I was just ticked. Really ticked that people aren't more careful which form they use to make comments and that Fiverr doesn't handle that better too. I didn't know feedback could be removed, so thanks for that tip LilBlackDress.

Let it be a warning to others that there are some out there who really have no clue about SEO and keywords when asking for articles. I assumed (for some reason) that anyone asking for an article would have some understanding about that. I knew how to best structure the article and he didn't, so he said I didn't give him what he asked for. That's where it all fell apart.

You are so right!!! I learned that the moment I had the courage to raise my prices I got better feedback, more respect and appreciation!

If you're going to charge only a fiverr then only give a fiverr's worth! For $5 a professional writer should not give more than 200 words on a subject he/she enjoys writing about.

Thanks for the tipoff concerning my signature - my niche is very specialized and only a very small number of astrologers are real experts on birthstones. I did encourage another Warrior from Indonesia to check out the gemstone market as a niche. I import 90% of my crystals from East Asia and I would be happy if a fellow warrior offers me a good deal. This would be a win-win situation for both of us.

do you have a warehouse in US that dropships? I could add some of your stuff to my store.

I had a fella do this to me on fiver as well. I was doing a gig for forum profile backlinks and it was very clear in my description what it was for.

Well, I have this guy gets his gig, wants me to redo it because he says he "cant see the links without logging in" so i create him his OWN profile (new gmail and everything) build his links (again) and give him the report (again) and the new email address/password and he puts "what a rip off" in the feedback, even though I did exactly what I said I was going to do . . . TWICE!

So, I decided that day that I would not put up with that crap for 4 dollars! So I just deleted that gig, no problem! I now stick to gigs I can automate (except for articles of course).

So, just delete this gig and start a new/similar one and you'll be fine.

      Thanks, Intermission, for posting this.

It's disappointing when people try to wiggle out of paying for something of quality that they've purchased with open eyes---especially when they're already getting it for a steal.

I had been thinking of using Fiverr, too, just to get some (good) reviews that I could post. Doesn't sound like a reliable place for usable reviews, though. I also wonder, since anything and everything is sold on Fiverr, how many Internet marketers would actually go there and seek out a writer?

It's the emails at fiverr that take up your time. To keep things automated, answer every message the same way. With every email question, put the answer in the description or details. Then, like a robot, reply "The answer to your question is in the gig description." And that is it. Plenty of people will order without an email. For $5 you do not have enough time to be answering picky questions all day.

I agree, I think you got someone who has found a way to get free articles. Have you put in a complaint against the person at Fiverr? If you explain it to them and even give them a copy of the email, then they may remove his comment.

But.... that is taking time and stress and it might be better just to move on and open a new Fiverr account.

I would use the article again though, if he canceled his payment then he has no rights to the article. What niche is the article in?

I think it really came down to miscommunication in this case. I made an assumption and so did he. So neither of us thought to get more clarification because we 'thought' we 'knew' what was going on, what to do, what to expect.

With Fiverr the payment is made before any discussion, so there is a sense of obligation to the one being 'hired', and there isn't a really good system for communication. When anyone can 'accidently' use the feedback form when trying to discuss the purchase further, it really screws things up.

The payment being cancelled, that would have been him, not Fiverr, right? Or would Fiverr cancel it because of the bad feedback? That I don't understand. Why would the guy cancel the payment if he liked the article I wrote (the second one, before the payment was cancelled)?

Fiverr is definitely not a perfect system and shouldn't be considered a good business system, but I just wanted to get my feet wet, so I tried (and got my toes nipped!).

I order a lot from Fiverr and you obviously can write. The person who ordered from you, did give you a thumbs up albeit along with a review that indicated something wasn't exactly the way he wanted it. When it comes to the review count, his will count as a postive since he did give a thumbs up.

Send me your Fiverr link and I will order an article from you and leave a thumbs up with some positiveness and we will get things moving in the right direction.

I've been article writing on there, I've quite a bit of spare time on my hands at the moment, and see it as practice more than anything else.

When I get a gig, I feel I need to do a good job, it's like a little kick up the ar$e that I need.

I'm getting better and faster at writing articles... if I can get them down to 20 min, cool... at the moment it takes me just under an hour.

I got a lot of good one time gigs i bought from fiverr. I think some of the customers can be cheap and will try to take advantage as much as they can and as was stated above, i think if you design a good questionnaire or warning you can get these people out of your offer -- at least most of them.

For your information, here are similar gig sites to fiverr:
GigBux - The marketplace for micro jobs | Home
    http://www.7freelance.com/
Jobs for $10 - The Marketplace for $10 Jobs
    Freelance Fiverr

Personally I find that gigbux.com are the best option.

    Good Luck!

Do you know his sites url? If so, tell him you're going to build black hat back links to his site to get it banned in Google if he doesn't pay you $100 now.

    Or just move on, lol.

Fiverr was a cool site.. but it got so spammy last time I visited the site. I view it more as a fad.. Not something I will invest time in.

But then again, if you're doing good business there.. stick with it.

Best thing to do is send the person a message and ask "why" he gave you bad feedback.

Tell him you will not write more articles for him unless he changes it to a good feeback. Then ask for the payment for the second one you gave him.

Next time don't give him the second article for free unless he agrees to take the negative feedback off. Tell him you are trying to build a long term business and he is not helping. haha

I had people take a gig without asking first and request work way beyond my 20 minute limit. Once I ended working a few hours for $5 there. Won't do it again.

When I told them I can't do it they never responded and just gave me bad feedback. It is a joke for a US resident anyway, in the end you get $3.92. I don't know, in some countries that may be good money.

The only thing I would do on there now is send out a pre written report.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience on fiverr.

You will always run into scammers that both buy from you and the people your hire for gigs.

The scammers are pretty easy to expose on there once you start asking questions.

As far as my experience on fiverr. I have been selling gigs on there for about 4 months now. It will not make you rich by any means but you know what, I never have to pay for any gigs because I am always playing with the houses money.

I never cash out because paypal wants to take their cut when you transfer so you end up making less than 4 bucks when it is all said and done.

However, the smartest and best way to make money on fiverr is to have something that you can upload in a zip file immediately with no work involved. The only work you do is logging in and uploading your zip file, saying thank you and the gig is finished.

Take a look around at the popular gigs and mirror what they do.

I consistently sell 4-6 gigs per day. I know it isn't much but it doesn't take any time at all to fulfill the gig.

Good Luck in the future if you continue with it!

Sorry for you experience. I started doing article submission and web directory submission and so far every customer has been great.

However, I do what I call "100% negative feedback customer", which means anytime I get someone who sounds like they dont really know what they are doing, I simply cancel the order.

Sometimes, before even people actually order, from their conversation with you (asking questions and this and that), you can kind of sense what kind of customers they are going to be.

Of course, there are exception to it, but its best to lose a few customer and play it safe than for keeping a few extra orders getting a negative feedback on a gig you have worked so hard for and have tons of good feedback and end up losing many more orders because of that one negative feedback.

By the way, you know you can simply delete that gig and create a new one especially since you didn't have any good feedback on it yet. So, you wont really lose anything but that negative feedback. Even if you cant figure out how to delete it, you can simply make another gig.

I do the same thing with my gigs, if a customer starts getting to demanding for $4. I simply cancel the order, it's a good way to protect your feedback.

Fiverr is such a tough place sometimes. People on there expect the moon for a measly $4. I'm glad I'm off Fiverr to be honest. I think the only reason any one should use it is if they are completely, COMPLETELY, broke and need $20 or so for a domain and hosting. From there they can be making a ton more from whatever they chose to do than with Fiverr.

I agree 100%! I only have one gig on fiverr - for $5 I'm prepared to write a 200 word report. After reading this thread, I've cancelled my other gigs. I'm fully aware that a customer needs protection - but also a service provider needs protection - otherwise it doesn't pay to offer services via places like fiverr.

The competition on Fiverr totally annihilated its original purpose. You now have to deliver something much more than a $5 job to get orders.

      Solution?

Pre-write something you can sell over and over and over again, include 1-2 gigs with some fancy work (I have keyword research & SEOC analysis), just upload it and forget about Fiverr until you have an order.

I think the issue is you did not lay hands on the right GIGs to sell there. I have a couple of GIGs which I deliver in max 5mins per GIG. I get sometimes 20 orders a day for some time now, the min I have had is 7 order per day. On average, I get over $1500/month from Fiverr doing less than 1hour per day and I'm scaling my strategies. I don't think it should be completely rolled out

Thanks for illustrating the correct way to offer Fiverr gigs. Too many people offer time consuming gigs that are somewhat subjective in nature (i.e. article writing, graphic/creative design), and this not only wastes your time but increases your chances of getting negative feedback. By doing jobs that require very little time per gig, you're effectively increasing your pay rate, as well as ensuring that all your services are pretty consistent in quality (I'm assuming that you're using some kind of software/tool in order to be able to complete gigs in 5 minutes or less).

There are good and bad points about Fiverr in my short experience with this business. I've had a good few orders for my gigs and some unusual requests, but your main aim is to complete any gig in 30 minutes or you will become a busy fool. If any job takes you an hour at Fiverr then, you should bin it and move on. Give the customer what the gig says, complete the gig in 30 minutes and collect the $4.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but it definitely isn't the end of the world. You have only have had feedback from one person, and it was a thumbs-up despite the comment you received. This was just a genuine misunderstanding, and with the help of the few warriors who have offered to hire you I'm sure you can still turn your Fiverr career around!

Don't be so quick to conclude that it's already over, I think you'll do well there. For now, just focus on tryiing to write articles in 20 minutes or less, so that you still get a somewhat decent hourly rate doing this work on Fiverr.

here is what i hate about fiverr. i do testimonials. i clearly state in the instructions that i will not do anything pornographic or lewd. yet 3 times i have had gigs ordered before the person talked to me to do testimonials for VERY adult products. now i have 2 options. i can either try to do a joint cancellation, which fortunately has worked out all 3 times. OR i can do a forced cancellation which will give me a negative rating. well i was fortunate they all agreed to cancel. had they not, i would have been dinged even though they didnt follow instructions. i have a perfect feedback score and am afraid this is what will eventuallt get me

It sounds like they really need to amend this policy. It's perfectly natural for things not to work out sometimes, and it'd be really unfair for your rating to be dinged simply because you had to do a forced cancellation through no fault of your own.

I would like to express my respect for the fact that you openly oppose pornography. I find it shameful that sites like fiverr allow gigs including pornography. Based on extensive evidence and criminological studies, I believe that pornography should be declared illegal in all civilized countries.

Thanks for the compliment. As a news anchor in Panama, I received small time celebrity status. In my hometown which is very small, I am very well known and the daughter of a pastor. I don't think that it would go over real well if they saw me doing testimonials for toys. I keep pretty busy over there without resorting to those type of ads. I am kind of surprised I am even doing anything for $5 to be honest based on my experience. But I miss being in front of the camera and I look at it as more fun than a job. This is important when you just make $5. It takes me awhile to memorize what I will say and do it professionally

I couldn't agree with you more! It ruins your professional reputation if your prices are too low. I only have one gig on fiverr - a 15-20 minute job for $5. My usual rate is $10 for 60 minutes. I have this gig mainly for promoting my online services.

the funny thing is what people expect for $5. for this i am doing nothing more than using a digital camera's video recorder. i do deliver the pitch professionally however. yet some people want me to do it from a television set. i had one lady ask me to do a live report from the streets of vegas with a professional camera. i had another ask me to take "full control of the project:" from reviewing the site, writing a script, sending in a first take for changes, and oh yea, can i do it from a sound proof environment? not a chance i am doing all that. and people get offended when you say no! as i said, i do this for fun, i am not desperate.

We freelancers must educate our customers that we are self respecting service providers and not online slaves! Working hard and not getting paid as much as you deserve for your work is slavery!

I have also turned down jobs where the payment is too low - even when I was desperate. Thank God - for every underpaid job I turned down, I found a new customer who was prepared to pay my price.

              Good Luck!

So Fiverr... is a hub of human slavery trafficking... uh huh. Also porn... something that has been around pretty much since the dawn of civilization causes slavery?

I had a problem with fiverr about a month ago. I produced an article for a client. They paid for it and said the article was excellent. My status on Fiverr stuck on "article very late" although I completed it 2 days before the deadline. I never got paid for the article and two tickets sent to Fiverr were never answered.
I stopped using Fiverr for the past month but just posted another gig tonight to see what happens.

I agree with firstbenjiman. I had the same thing happen to me with Fivver. I ended up giving away more stuff trying to make someone happy for free and all I got in return was a few bucks. It seems those who want something for that cheap expect more. Grab one of the courses on WF about making your own product and learn to market that even for $5 bucks and you will do a lot better than Fivver.

Hey, I buy articles on fiverr all the time. I'd love to purchase some from you and leave you great feedback if you can deliver quality articles. I've ordered over 50 in the past couple of months. PM your gig and I'll place an order today. Thanks.

This thread really touched a nerve for some ...

I guess it really is hard to tell in my first post, but my using the word 'career' in regards to 'Fiverr' was tongue in cheek. I wasn't serious. I was ticked about what happened, but I sure didn't look at Fiverr as a career!

I did delete that one gig so the guy couldn't come back to me if he wanted to. I created a new gig and have actually had a couple customers already. No, I'm not going to get rich, or even be able to buy the latest Justin Bieber album for my daughter for a month or more ... but it feels good just to see some thumbs up and have gotten some good reviews. It is encouraging!

Sorry to those in the thread that asked me to PM. I can't because I don't have enough posts yet. (Working on it).

I would have gotten my own ghostwriting website up by now but I can't decide on a domain name.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and your support. What a great forum this is!

Its very demoralizing to get scammed at your first attempt on fiverr. I would like to second the Warriors who have suggested that you report the scammer to fiverr. I think the scammer had all this planned out since he chose you, a newbie at fiverr, as a victim. Chances are that this bloke will stalk other fiverr newcomers with this trick, so its a good idea to flag him up with the guys running fiverr.

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about this. It's people like this that put you off doing these kinds of things, you genuinely want to help someone (in exchange for value of course) and they do this ungrateful deed! Terrible.

I don't think it's over for you though, because there are plenty of other "gig" sites you can check out like tenbux. There is one called makeafiver.co.uk which is almost exactly the samesame website layout as fiverr but they pay in GBP Sterling £5 which is a bit more than $5. Also if you just google "gig sites" you'll get a good search result with a few good gig sites. Or google "site: gig"

Hope that helps, and it's only over if you accept it to be over, so keep your chin up mate!

One way of preventing this from Happening is to offer Extra Bonus if the buyer left a feedback for you. Example, after you sent him the article, you can tell the buyer that you will give me a free eBook on SEO if he leaves you a positive feedback. It works for my Gig most of the time and from there I build my own positive feedback. But if that guy was doing the bad thing purposely for you in order to get the money back, I am sure he will not last long in internet marketing...

This strategy works very well, whether providing a service or selling a product. By withholding something until your desired action is completed, you're incentivizing them to leave positive feedback (your desired action). Using this strategy will get you many more great ratings than if you didn't.

That was like really vague. I asked him what tool is he using to check the pr. I asked him to use seoquake. Guess what? The buyer does not exist on fiverr anymore i guess he had been doing this to many sellers so fiverr banned him. I wrote to fiverr and yes i did get my money back eventually

Take the two articles you wrote and put them someplace online. Change your description to address the bad feedback. Something like: I got some bad feedback and I replied to it in the video at YouTube. You can read the articles I wrote that got the bad feedback at a link I will send you, or, by clicking this link. I think I'm a good writer that didn't deserve this feedback. You decide for yourself.

Also, did you do some comparison shopping on your offer versus your competitors on Fiverr? If I could get 2 500 word articles for $5 why would I order 1 300 word article for $5? Did you consider offering stuff on tenrr.com or twentyrr.com?

I had this happen to me too, but I kind of think that it was a competitor doing it on PURPOSE! I had written this document with about 150 different places someone could find a work from home position, apply, and have a good job. These are legit places and I checked them ALL by hand before creating the report. Plus, I gave 12 directories where they could get more job leads daily!

So there's a few Fiverr people that have a similar report, but I made sure that mine had MORE and had good content. The person who bought it had zero activity on Fiverr, no reviews, no products, no bio or picture. And they left a terrible review while I had already left them a good one!

There was no way to delete it so I just scrapped to gig and created a new one. Try that. Next time, don't give a review until they have given one first. Then if they're negative, say what all you did to still sell your service and leverage the bad review.

Revenge was very sweet for about 10 of these LOSERS that unknownly got their orders refused because they left bad feedback for 1 of my account and then turned around and tried to buy from another one of my accounts. Eventually these TURDS managed to get all 100 account shut down. I'm not a violent person but I can lie and say that i wanted to BLOW up Fiverrs server for this.LOL To date Fiverr has shut down over 200 of my accounts but i still have about 6 of them up that I'm using IP hiders and public IP addresses on.

Um, I can tell you're angry but I think you might also be a little confused. This isn't a blackhat forum.

But I am curious how you got 100 accounts set up vis a vis PayPal? Since you have to link a Fiverr account to a PayPal account in order to get paid.

You basically have to bribe Fiverr Buyers into leaving Good feedback by holding a product of a HIGHER PRECEIVED VALUE THAN THE ORIGINAL GIG.
