Good CMS for Content these days? Other than Wordpress?

I was wondering what most people are using for a CMS to create informational sites? I've used Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress and many others, but wanted to see if there was something else out there people are using that gets the job done, and is SEO friendly?

The theme of the sites I will be creating is to house information, and I want the information to stay posted up in a navigation structure, instead of getting archived away in an out of box wordpress format.

Does anyone have any good wordpress themes to recommend that change the format of wordpress and make the content stay in a standard navigation, and look less like blog posts? Or, are there any other CMS systems that have come out that people like that are simple and super seo friendly?

Thanks Warriors!
Frenchie

you can still use WP.....just make pages instead of posts....the pages widget is static, and you can even have a page for a front page.

and there's no dates on pages.

you can disable comments......unless you want UGC

just be sure to use all in one seo plugin, 'cause there are no tags on pages

    Thanks GrumpyJacksa,
Good tips. I was thinking about this, but I figured I'd ask to see if anyone was buzzing on something else.

Any other plugs you recommend? I have a list of them that I typically use but haven't really searched for new plugs in a good 3 to 6 months.

Anyone know of any good wordpress templates that change the theme to look more like a website? This magazine one is promising I just found:

I still like Joomla, they also have many, many extensions including a "search-engine-friendly" plugin... But, the design is pure hell creating yourself...

Joomla is definitely sweet, but I am looking to streamline a bit so I might go the Wordpress route. More searching and I am finding a ton of magazine style wordpress themes that change the look and give an informational look to the site. Here is a link for anyone else trying to do the same thing:

Maybe Drupal is what you're searching for.

I liked Joomla when i first started using it, but boy is it tough to get started.

Personally I have stuck with wordpress as I can get good results pretty quickly. It is pretty simple, and just has so many plugins. For a bit there it seemed like Joomla was "the next great thing" but that seems to have died down.

Joomla definitely has a great following and tons of premium templates. I have used both Drupal and Joomla, and sometimes find them to be overkill. I have found some great magazine style themes for WordPress and am going to go that route for now.

    Thanks everyone for the feedback!

When I was looking at this issue a while back I reached
the conclusion that Drupal was a good choice for SEO.

Drupal is cool but the user community and help is limitedl so
you have to be really willing to dig in and learn technical
stuff you would probably rather not know.

I am a joomla fan myself, and the latest version allows much better SEO than the previous versions, with shorter urls, ability to keyword and add descriptions to each article/menu dynamic page titles and hundreds of free plugins, you can't go wrong in trying it. I personally will stay with joomla as my only personal CMS, though I have to use drupal and others for clients.
Again, it is free, so it doesn't hurt to try.

    That said.
one of my sites ecoversource.com , I had straight html for a long time and came up as number 11 on google after a few weeks for ecovers ( I use IBP). But then as I grew, I wanted to add more features and I switched to Joomla. since then I have dropped to some other page with the keyword ecover design Which frankly doesn't bother me all that much right now, but it has made a difference with ranking of the MAIN page.

if you do a search for kunaki templates via google, I come up second, and you can see the dynamic page title was generated by Joomla and brought that to the top. Same thing with the keywords Podcast Cover Art.

I had a wordpress blog for about 3 weeks, it got too much to handle right now, but within a few days of having it up, a topic was already indexed. I think wordpress is way too much work and customization to make it work as a full blown website, but you can't beat the power of a good blog.

that rambling probably wasn't helpful, but just some thing from personal experience! Maybe i should blog after all
