A Brief Intro to Being Human and Bulding a Reputation

I believe maybe 3 out of every 10 signatures I see on this forum.

I'm probably more generous than most members in believing them. So I have a simple request. Don't lie in your signature. Eventually you will be caught. Then you will look like an idiot, and no one will buy what you are selling.

Ever again.

No one here expects you to be a master of everything. We won't kick you out of the club for admitting you don't make six figures a year. I'm a lot more likely to hire a web designer with no signature than one with 7 posts and a sig saying, "I make millions jumping on my magic pogo stick and so can you!"

If you had a magic pogo stick, that shot out hundred dollar bills at every bounce, you'd be outside jumping on it. Not soliciting my business. We all know it. Why lie about it?

My name is Will. I have a full time job, which I love and have no intention of quitting. Even if I make millions online. Yes, there are services I want to one day offer to my fellow warriors to supplement my income. No, I don't need the money to keep the lights on.

I craft a good offer, write mediocre copy, and you could fill a very short book with what I know about programing and design. HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. People like pretty pictures.

See, tell the truth and people believe you.

Stopping lying, they'll believe you too.

    Will, spot on!

But be honest, those people can make you laugh.

You know.. those people that are selling a $10,000 in a week systems. And in their WF posts they ask "how do I make money fast, I need it now!!!!! LOlz"

Now hope you can believe my signature

I don't lie in my signature. I'm pretty sure nine people count as more than a handful, thus they qualify as "handfuls of people."

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Now now...hmm I won't start arguing over that. If you think you're right, then you must be right?

No, seriously, few will ever earn that much online here or elsewhere, but there was a time I use to earn 6 figures in MLM but only for 2 good years, but all that changed due to health issues in January 2006.

I wish you were wrong though...cause things are getting rough now with the economy, and anyway, Our World will end on 21st of December 2012!

...now why did I say that??...

As for signatures, mine is truthful. You can all see and agree just by reading it that it cannot be otherwise...

I have never felt a need to lie in my signature either.

If you find my signature unbelievable, that says more about you than it does about me.

sh.... don't tell them all the secrets.

Let's consider the possibility that you are right... people are lying.
They don't lie to you anymore... caus you know the trick.
They can't make any money out of you... caus you know the trick.

So who are they after??? .............in my opinion.... the newbies.

It's the age of information... people lacking it... will lack the power.
You want to stop people from lying? It won't work as long there are people to believe the lies. The problems is not with the lies, it's with the believers.

I'm supposed to bounce on it?

Guess that explains why it's not shooting out the pound notes then.

... Do we want to know what.... nevermind.

Quick rule of thumb. If you have hundreds, or thousands, of posts I probably believed your sig. Also telling me your sig is true has no effect on my belief one way or the other. Really wasn't talking about, or trying to offend the value adding members.

I don't lie in my signature. It's Klingon, and it says "Your mother has a smooth forehead."

Which, being humans, I can pretty much guarantee that's true for all of you.

Don't say that to Klingons, though, or they'll beat you up. Or kill you. Or both.

As I like to joke with people in the offline world (as opposed to here in the "Matrix")---sure, I make 6 figures--if you count to the right of the decimal

Seriously, when I DO get around to a signature (still deciding on my "branding") I plan to maintain humility--while appealing directly to the people who I think will benefit from something I have to offer. Hopefully I will intrigue the right people with a unique point of view that they want to investigate. No money claims whatsoever.

I really enjoy these types of discussion--and they are happening early enough in my online career to help me establish a good foundation.

My mom had a smooth forehead when I was conceived. That was 46 years ago. Her head isn't as smooth these days...

As far as "truthfulness" in sigs...

I come here to learn and also to shoot the breeze. My niche isn't IM, and I don't plan for it to ever be. I'm quite happy in my anonymous, geeky niches.

But I did try to choose a siggy that gives a glimpse into what I'm like.

Better use than most. I don't have a product to sell, and every time I go, "I should make a sig," the best I can come up with is "occasionally relevant".

I have to say, some of the sigs are quite clever. I love the one about PETA = People for Eating Tasty Animals. (JohnMcCabe's siggy) There are some others that make me chuckle, too.

I think that humor is an excellent use of a sig.

I can show you the thread where they called me the King + the Jimmy Hendrix of WP... and a rockstar... and on top of that (I didn't even put it in my sig!) a client's wife said I sounded like Arnie (the California governor): very sexy and authorititive!
    :p

I guess loony signature's are easy to spot when you've been around the block a few times - cause B.S is B.S which ever way you are going to look at it...but if you are new out there or have the get rich quick itch, it's easier to get taken...

I suspect there is no need to lie in your sig. After a few posts, most folks will be able to tell if you know what you are doing or not.

Of course, I try to be a bit careful in what I post I reply, but every once in a while I realize that the OP had something different in mind when they wrote thatn what I wrote about in answering.
