Is it harder to get affiliate sites to rank high?

I did a research and noticed that mostly non-affiliate sites are ranking high in my industry(payday loans).

Do you think it's harder to get an affiliate site to rank high?

Your best bet is to pick one of your high ranking competitors and research why exactly they are at that rank. Look at their backlinks, domain details, website age, high PR linkage, etc etc. Then decide if it is possible for you to do better.

It's probably because the actual business has way more resources (time) to hire people to do SEO than you spend on your own site.

Even if you spent all your time on optimizing your site, the businesses can easily out SEO you with a couple full time marketers.

Yes it is. If you have a one page affiliate site, then most likely it will not get ranked on the first page of Google.

This is due to past spammers trying to manipulate the big G as some people still are. Many people manipulated the meta tags for years and now Google ignores meta tags.

Content sites with fresh unique content that have relevant and quality back links to them are the only sites that rank high.

I agree with this, I think the best way to rank well is to have a good honest site with good content.

It's hard to get "thin affiliate sites" to rank because they really don't offer any value.

But sites that provide value/content and that use affiliate programs as a way to monetize, those sites have no problem ranking.

Please dont make blanket statements such as your last sentence in the quote above. Nothing in this industry, possibly in the world as a whole, is that cut and dry.

I have ranked one page sites with ZERO unique content #1 before, but have also ranked sites with oodles of unique content and all kinds of additions high as well.

It all comes down to the specific techniques you use, the niche itself, keywords you are targeting, age of domain, and so on.

In this biz, there really is never a straight yes/no answer or question.

I think you can do it just need a research over keywords and quality content with links to the required keywords.

Not always, as long as you provide value. Be balanced about ad placement and use a lot of in-text links. Avoid putting more than one google adsense ad block per page and only choose one or two other types of ads per page. Focus on content with only a few ads and create text links that link to products.
