Mobil Fashion Store doing well in Japan

I just saw a little report on NHK news broadcast on PBS that toured the facilities of a company that markets fashion to 20 somethings in Japan called Gadu (Fashionistas) through their mobile phones.

Many countries outside of the U.S. have a higher reliance on cell phones and are more advanced in marketing through them. Trends in Japan may be note worthy.

The company staffed primarily by 20 something women has some 1 million customers, one interviewed has bought a over 100 items. The company creates some 500+ new designs with a cutesy look a year, ordering lots of 1000+ pieces from China, they showed one of their Chinese speaking staff making design changes over webcam, it takes about a month to go from design to delivery to customers.
They split test catalog images, one revision in which 3 models were rearranged doubled sales, model makeup and fashion contours are touched up in photoshop to optimize impact on cell phone screens.
