I just cleaned my email list...

Hey folks,

I've been working on list building for the past couple months. I built a list of 500 subscribers...BUT.

I did it wrong. Every time I sent a blast or an adswap or any kind of message, I'd get a 20% complaint rate. Pretty sucky.

Here's what I did wrong.

I used a canned auto responder message from a mentor of mine (it's part of the program, so you have permission to use his stuff).

Therein lies the problem. It was an auto responder series for 50+ weeks. However, all the messages branded HIM and not ME. So when I would send a message, it seemed spammy because it didn't come from the other guy. Follow me?

So I just deleted my list of 500 subscribers, and I'm starting again. It kinda sucks because it cost me about $300 in solo ad fees to learn this jacked up lesson. But...it's a lesson learned all the same.

Moral of the story.

Write your own copy in your auto responder messages and brand YOU, not someone else.

Hey, I'm just happy I found this out sooner than later.

Happy marketing folks!

Peace,

Shane

You said it right, better failing fast and learn the lesson. If everything goes smooth without errors it seems too good to be true and we never learn.

Well, I was in a similar position recently...instead of branding myself, I brand my Pen Name...at that time I am already having about 1000 subscribers...But I did not delete all away and start over. Instead, I send an email apologizing my mistake and introduce my real name.

I experience a high percentage of unsubscribe rate but I manage to continue with the remaining subscribers....

I guess you learn a good lesson....personal branding is very important in this biz

Well I have yet to build my subscriber list - and it undoubtedly takes quite some time. The key is to offer something for free (of high value).
None the less I want to wish you luck and I'm glad you've learned your lesson.

It's good that you recognized the problem early (after only a few months). You now have a chance to be yourself and really communicate with your subscribers.

I've had the most success when I ignored the 'gurus' and just focused on being me. Let your subscribers get to know you and connect with them. Stop following the gurus.

Don't blame you dude! At least you didn't spend 10x that and you've changed it sooner rather than later! Trust me you will find it easier to get to 500 subscribers this time round
