Alright guys,

Basically I would like to know if any of you use facebook ads to drive traffic to your sites, and if so how does it compare to adwords?

Many thanks,
Stephen

It is completely opposite to Google Adwords. The main difference is that your are not targeting keywords here, and even more importantly, your target visitors are not in a buying frame of mind.(or the Sales funnel)

Instead, you would be targeting them based on age, sex, education, location, and other such personal details gathered anonymously. I have seen that direct selling does not work with FB, but up-selling works wonders. And although FB avg. CPC cost has nearly doubled in the past 1 year, it is mostly due to large number of new advertisers who have started using them rather than its negative ROI.

Fb ads are great if you are targeting gender, age and interest...However to make your investment worth it, send your traffic to a squezze page rather than a sales page...

I think you should put aside a budget and test it out....Good luck

The nice thing about Facebook ads is that set up is quick and painless in comparison with Adwords (no keyword research to worry about), and you get pretty awesome demographic targeting since Facebook has such a large member base.

The images in the FB ad really matter a lot, so I'd test out at least several variations to see which converts better.

Facebook demographics are much better than Adwords.

You can really zoom in on your specific target audience but it can be very expensive. If you are planning on going that route, make sure to read the terms of service before you start advertising to make sure that your ads and landing pages are compliant. If not, they will get suspended and possibly cancelled just like a Google Slap.

Remember that PPC Marketing can be very expensive but it is one of the fastest ways to drive highly targeted traffic to your site. With that said, start slowly and get a good feel before dumping a lot of money into that kind of marketing budget. Many new marketers end up losing their shirts because they dive in too quickly.

Well I don't invest in FB adds, for the sole purpose of the really low conversion rate and because of the non - targeted audience.

I do consider Youtube tho' - it has generated quite some revenue for me in the past.

If you have never tried FB ads in the past just note that over the past few months its become a little harder to get your ads approved. I currently write copy for FB ads and you might do well to follow a few guidelines to make sure your ad gets approved.

Facebook Ads can be a funny one. They enjoy alot lower CTR than googles ads, and the audience tends not to be a buying one. However, dont discount them yet, as Facebook ads in my opinion, will become more and more associated with buying as social media grows in popularity. Many companies are focusing on Facebook ads to advertise products.

I have tried using Facebook Ads to target buyers but it seems that those clicks comes from people who either "like" the looks, attractive headings/quotes and nice looking pictures. Please take note that any kind of semi naked pictures posted will not be approved - eg. picture of armpit. Hope this is useful.

I have to agree with the above point. After using facebook ads for several campaigns, I've sworn it off. Sent ads direct to a capture page and got hundreds of cheap leads, (cheap leads are good) and no sales! (The same sales funnels produced from other sources, so it was the traffic source, not the offer,) Seems like the FB crowd are into "window shopping."
