Is there a place where I can find out about certain types of business?

I've seen a business who've just started out, and they're basically doing exactly what I wanted to do for over 12 months now, but haven't got anything into motion yet.

The main barrier is that I don't know how to start the type of business in question.

It's basically a form of advertising agency, working within a specific sector.

Therefore, it requires distributors and advertisers onboard. The big question is how they get the distributors on board.

I'm wondering if there's a place where people can find thus stuff out in more detail?

I'd like to know how they approach the start up of the business, the costs involved, how to pitch to distributors, etc.

I know it's a long shot. Any ideas?

P.S - I'm really just asking if you know of a place where you can ask expert business advisors/strategists how particular businesses got started???

    Nick,

I may or MAY NOT be able to help you, but I don't want to post for the general public, so if you either PM me or shoot me an email, we can discuss this. My email is gjabiz@yahoo.com

There are many business consultants found via Google who may be able to help too, if you have CASH to pay them. I'm FREE (but may have worthless info too).

Another possibility is SCORE (assuming you are in the US), a part of the SBA (Small Business Administration.) I've never used them but have heard from others they can be very helpful in starting a new venture. Depending on the size of the area where you live, you may have a local chapter.

      Hey Nick,

You're really over thinking this one. Just go straight to the source. You know the company in question that you'd like to emulate, so stop spinning your wheels and trying to find roundabout information and contact the company directly. Maye you're afraid to do this but you'd be surprised how much you can learn and how much information companies will share with you if you simply just ask. Fire off a few emails to them, or better yet, call them directly. Trust me, going straight to the source works.

Yeah, I think you're probably right on this one. I was trying to think how to position myself so they don't get suspicious.

Of course, getting the level of detail I need wouldn't be something you could just interrupt their busy day and get them to spill for no reason, without knowing who I am and what my intentions are.

        Hmm...

Would you like me to call for you Nick? Ok, Im just poking innocent fun, but seriously Nick, you're psyching yourself out. If you convince yourself that they won't interrupt their day to speak to you then they wont. So Stop Thinking That Way! Snap out of it. They're only humans, just like you. Who knows, they couldve had the same questions you have before they got started. They couldve reached out to a similar company and just asked some pertinent questions. My point is you never know until you ask.

Just give em a call and let me know how it goes. If you want to talk offline just shoot me a pm and I'll write you an email that you can send to them. But whatever you do, just make contact!
