List Building - If you had 30 straight days, what would you do?

Ok.. so the question is:

If you had 30 days to build a list, what would you do? Where would you go? How would you do it?

The Conditions:

All expenses paid. In other words, you didn't have to worry about promoting anything. You didn't have to worry about working, selling products or any of that.

You have 30 days to engage in high intensity list building.

How would you approach this?

I think this is going to be a valuable thread for all of us. Can't wait to hear what you guys have to say!

    • Awesome list! Thanks for contributing!
    • For PPC I assume you use Google Yahoo and MSN. I am starting to build my list for the fist time. How much should I spend per click for leads? Is 10 cents to 15 cents per click good or should I spend just enough to give me the 5ht-8th position?

Also, should I just use the search network, the content network or both? I estimate I will spend a total of 30-40 dollars per day on ads.

  • The quickest way I found is to just buy targeted leads and toss 'em in the autoresponder. We get a 23% conversion (sale) over 30 day cycles. Articles and solo ads to targeted niche ezines works very well too.

    • Where are you getting these targeted leads from if I may ask? Also, with regards to the conversion rate mentioned, did 23% of those people on the targeted list you bought buy something? Thanks.
    • Myob,

I have aslo just started to build my list and was wondering (i) what is a good source for targetted leads, (ii) what should I expect to pay per email address, and (iii) what is the risk of being labelled a spammer.

I have an Aweber account and I have been afraid to take this approach in case I lose it!

    • Ok, just so I understand this. You are basically buying the leads and then adding them to Aweber, which then sends out an opt-in request right? Or can you just email straight from Aweber without opt-in? If so, how?
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Well written response.

I mean.. if you didn't have to worry about making money for the month and you could devote 8 hours a day.. or 15.. however much you wanted to work, to list building.

You answered quite well! Thanks for your contribution, this makes a lot of sense to me.

    • Yea, you got it!

I also align with what you said in response to Russ. I think free WSO's are a great idea as well..all depending on what your intention is and who you're targeting.

I think your hunch is totally accurate. Responsiveness should be the goal but with quick fixes in people's minds, the quality approach rarely ensues. Great replies.
  • This thread is movin pretty fast!

If I had money, I'd buy targeted leads.

If i didnt have money, I'd get into a niche where its easy to get articles ranked and crank out 20-30 a day.

    • Definitely a solid approach, thanks for replying!
  • If you have money to spend you can buy list from people. If you do not have money to spend, you can do solo ad, ad swap which might take more than 30 days in building your list. It all depends on the people you will be dealing with.
    Good luck on it.
  • I am also using article marketing to drive traffic to my squeeze page. Even though currently I am only getting a 6% opt-in rate
  • The fastest approach I find, to build a list,
is to create a high quality product.

Give 100% to all JV parnters, they will
    promote it like crazy.

This way, it is possible to even build
a list of 3000 people in a short week.

And they will be all customers, not prospects.

Since some big JV partners cringe at squeeze pages,
you might consider using a hover-ad on your
sales page to capture prospects as well.

This way, you are building both a prospect and
a customer list at the same time.

    The advertising cost is 0.

    • Sounds like a workable plan! I've never done this before. Thanks for replying!
    • All of the ideas on this thread are great! I get best results with driving paid ppc/banner traffic to free offers, but I think the JV 100% commission idea would knock that straight out of the water. Gotta do that. Soon!
  • Free WSO. End of thread. :-)

    Russ
  • That is a very nice situation to be in!

I would probably do the following:

-Banner Ads and Solo Ads on high frequency websites
    -Pay-Per-Click Advertising
-This may be far fetched but I would put up some high quality ads on some major city billboards.
-Advertising on radio stations around the country

I am sure there are many more things that I would do! I would honestly take the full 30 days with little sleep advertising everywhere!

Why not right. We can sleep when we die.
  • It isn't about how many people you have on an email list, it is all about how well you have a relationship with the people on your list. You can make WAY more money on a list of 100 people that you have a strong relationship with, then you can with a list of 5000 that never even heard of you...Its about building the goodwill before making the money.

But to answer your question, the fastest way to build a list is to borrow someone else and send that traffic to opt-in to your list. However, this is a list of prospects, you really should be building a list of buyers. So I would say...

    1. Integration
    2. Self-Liquidating Leads
    3. Ad swaps
    4. Solo Ads
    5. Interviews
    6. Webinars
    7. Teleseminars
    8. Viral Marketing

I know I'm missing something but I hope you get the point.

  • Free membership sites with awesome content are list building machines.
  • I'd write a few highly targeted articles to be published in niche specific newsletters. (The challenge would be getting them in the hands of readers within 30 days if you do not already have contacts. You can use services to accelerate the process if you do not want to create your own contacts.)

Depending on the market, I'd be creating informative, entertaining, stupid, or sensationalized videos for YouTube and possibly a couple other video sites and doing some rapid promotion to attempt to get them to go viral.

Piggyback a few videos off of market leaders. Example...If Frank Kern releases a video in IM create a video which discusses your evaluation, twists on his thoughts, but make sure to mention his name in the tags, description, and title to grab people looking for his videos.

Get highly involved in communications with leaders in my niche seeking solo-ads, JV deals, guest posting opportunities, and a live interview which is also recorded for replay.

Create a Facebook page and then get busy communicating in any associated groups I can find.

The difficult part of your question is not knowing a market. What works is going to be highly variable depending on the market. If you are talking about the Internet Marketing market, then Forums, Forums, Forums....or at least this one..

    • Write a keyword loaded press release, spin the initial press release, distribute it to 10 press release sites (one every day). After doing this, you will rank highly in the search engines for your targeted keywords and then your press releases will receive organic traffic. You then direct this traffic to your squeeze page. Do this until your press releases stop appearing on google's first page
    • Well written response and totally actionable! This is all great stuff.

You're right, being confident and acting definitively for a specific market is what makes or breaks a lot of it.

Yea! You're right.. if you're in the IM market, this is the place to be. I like the sharing of information. If someone has a cool WSO that is actually legit and seems intelligently put together, I'm game. Especially if I'm looking for something similar to what they're talking about.

I like the review or response videos from experts.. great thinking.

      Thanks for replying.
  • The best way to get a massive and fresh list in my opinion is to start a lead campaign. You have to have ways to monetize all the traffic to recover cost but if your formula is correct, you can easily collect tens of thousands of leads in a month. I built a list of over 50,000 in less than a month using this technique.

    • One way that has worked for me in the past is by using Ebay's Classified listing. You can list your free offer there without any problems. It will cost you $9.99 for the month.

Your success rate would probably vary quiet a bit depnding on what Niche you are in and what you are promoting though.

Not sure if this still a good way to build your list or not though as it has been a while since Ive used it.

  • you want a list for people that is fine.

You want a list of targeted people, then comment on high traffic blogs in your niche.

I have found that to be awesome hungry target of people that will eventually buy straightaway or somewhere down the track.

You want good list of poeple, not just unresponsive and do not care what you have to say. So I vouch for getting a better targeted list of people.

Have say 1000 of a more targeted list, is better than having 15k list of people from random places. Just constantly think, targeted, targeted, targeted...how can I get more targeted people on my list, and where do these people hang out online or offline. Then just simply go to them and put your ads infront of them. Then get ready for them to throw their money at you.

When i realised this and did this, the income doubled.
