It is NOT ok to lie to me...

OK, I admit, I've been stewing about this for awhile. There's two specific incidents during the past week that have really bothered me.

First incident - I purchased a solo ad recently from a 'vendor' with a zillion (ok a figure of speech, but if I told you the exact claim, you'd know who it was) members on his 'mailing list'. He guarantees a minimum number of clicks. "OK, cool. Price seems right, and based on my experience with this product's ROI, the numbers work out, so I'm going to pop for a trial mailing".

So the first delivery date comes and goes, and there isn't one hit on my targeted landing page. I question the vendor...turns out that his email system isn't configured properly (a.k.a. it would appear that he hasn't sent any campaigns out before). But that instead of sending me 500 clicks, he will now rerun the campaign and send me 750 clicks.

Second stab at delivering this campaign has come and gone, and I'm still waiting for ANY activity on this landing page.

Moral of this story: If you're going to make claims and guarantees, especially outrageous ones, be prepared to back them up!!! Walk the talk.

Here's another scenario from another thread that I was participating on this morning.

A relatively well known vendor (website) was down for an extended (multiple days) time at the beginning of this week. OK, so bleep happens right? It happens to the best of us for whatever reason. But there's two issues from that thread that really really bothered me.

First, the vendor made several public statements to create misleading perceptions, minimizing their problems, which apparently was not the case. For me, the issue isn't that their website was down, even for an extended period of time, its now an issue of credibility. Can I believe anything this vendor tells me in the future? Maybe, but probably not.

OK, maybe I'm old fashioned. I'm old enough to qualify for that title. But it is not OK to mislead me.

A second issue I had with that specific thread, is that a well known individual (in this forum community) posted a comment that I paraphrase...."so what?"

I come from a turnaround business management consulting background in the offline world. One of the first things we look for in a turnaround situation is..."are your vendors meeting your expectations for quality and delivery?"

In other words, "If you fly with turkeys, you won't soar with eagles."

I'm fed up with the lies and the crap, and "No, I'm not going to accept a 'so what, that's just the way it works in the IM business' attitude. I'm not going to be confrontational - especially on the WF - but I am going to start holding people accountable for their commitments to me, and I won't adopt a 'so what' attitude.

If that makes me a jerk, then so be it. Giving someone my word still means something to me.

Honesty, integrity and reliability are timeless values! These values are neither "old fashioned" or "latest fashion" they are the basic building blocks of human communication.

I'm sorry to read about your ugly experience and I want to say that you have my fullest empathy! Thanks for sharing

Seems that the world as we know it has changed ... Not only can we find dishonesty everywhere we look ... Seems my parents were right when they said ... "They don't make them like they used too ..."

Its reasonable to assume that by the very example of honesty, intergrity and keeping "your proverbial word" - these very actions will excel you into unseen success ...

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you .. I think the Bible verse goes ...

Interesting rant. I am sure you will getting PM's asking you to ID the person and their service.

500 clicks promised and none returned. Wow. It can't get any worse than that.

as far as your comment about sites being down - someone died, didn't pay the hosting, and hundreds and hundreds of sites went down. It wasn't just one vendor on this forum - it was hundreds - and some big name sites too.

The only way to get the sites back up was to contact relatives of he deceased and ask them to get in touch with the server farm and authorize all of the sites to pay direct.

It wasn't the end of the world - it was frustrating for the site owners I'm sure. But still - the problem was fixed within a few days. (I wasn't one of the sites or the vendor in question)

As for your order for solo ad - ask for your money back.

Which brings us around to a very important topic. If you are making money that your family depends upon, do they have the tools to keep your online income going? Do they know how to renew domains, keep paying hosting, etc? We need to all have our important info written down in a form that our family members can use, simple instructions with how to pay these things or how to shut it all down. User names and passwords need to be put in a safe place as well.

I have done this, and have given a copy to my husband and a copy to my best friend. If I am suddenly no more, at least my husband and my friend will know how to do what needs to be done - keep the income alive or shut if off.

    I feel the same way.

If I recommended something, or sell something you can bet your last dollar, that I have tested it thoroughly and really believe its the best on the market at that given time.

If my server is down, on a member site, I will just lay it out. this happened, sites down, working on it, everyone gets a free X days

I also believe in OVER delivering. When Im going to do something, im going to make sure people are happy with it, and that they feel they ripped me off with what they got for the price lol.

I like to be able to sleep at night, and thats worth more to me than any amount of money.

And the way I see it, if im straight up and honest, the next time I go to do something, people will already know what to expect from me.

just wish everyone had the same views.
