You already have a free ftp account with Hostgator. You can either use Cpanel file manager or download fireftp for firefox.

Your ftp account login and password should be your hostgator username and password if you are using fireftp.

You then have to navigate to the directory where you want your files to be, and copy the files.

You can download a free FTP editor such as FileZilla to send
files from your computer to your hosting server at Hostgator.

FileZilla - Client Download (no affil.)

The you'll need to have the hostname, username, password
and port number to be able to communicate to the server
      from your computer.

      E.g.

ftp.example.com (use your domain instead of example.com)

Your ftp username and password will likely be the same as
      your cpanel username and password.

For the port, try Port 21 first of all.

Then upload your files into the public_html folder on your
      server.

E.g. upload index.html into public_html and then it will be
      displayed at:

      example.com/index.html

Here's a video on how to use FileZilla with HostGator:

      Good luck.

Well, you can dump all your files right into the root domain, or you can create some directories for a cleaner look...

ie: directory named "images" for images
    directory named "videos" for videos

html files should stay in the root typically.

    Hey Charlotte,

I suggest using Filezilla as others have mentioned and not using hostgator's FTP because Filezilla is more widely used by others so if you come across something you don't understand, you can always youtube it for answers.
