just wanted to know what you prefer.. would you rather a plain html side (or a site you/someone coded) or prefer a blog software like wordpress (which you can install on your host or host a free one)
AND THE REASON WHY

I prefer a normal site because a blog can be deleted by the powers that be while a site is yours to keep.

WordPress is a good choice if you dont are html, php or any code skills.

You could host Wordpress with your own domain and hosting company.

ok but lets assume you can also install a blog on your host, would you still choose the same?

A Self-Hosted Wordpress Blog is Hard to Beat!

So these days the biggest difference between a blog and a static HTML site is how you get the content to the pages.

Note: You can make a Wordpress Blog look exactly like a static HTML site.

The biggest differences are that you can easily add content to a Wordpress Blog using a built in content publishing system...with a typical HTML site, you have to FTP files to the server, etc.

With all of the plugins built for Wordpress, you can accomplish some amazing things with your site.
      • Optimize SEO.
      • Auto-link building.
      • Scheduled Content Delivery.
      • Ease of Intergating Facebook.
      • Social Proof.
      • etc.

I'm even to the point now where I build my sales pages with Wordpress.

Honestly...99% of the full-time markters that I know use self hosted Wordpress blogs.

How do you figure? A Blogger blog or Wordpress.com blog can be deleted. But if you upload a Wordpress blog onto your own hosting server, it can't be deleted. Looks like you need to do some research into that.

Only blogs hosted on free platforms can be deleted. I use Hostgator to host a lot of my blogs, all with their own domain names and they cannot be deleted just willy nilly.

I prefer blogs. Lots of options for great themes and very easy to continually add new content. They always get indexed nicely too.

There is nothing wrong with wordpress, but do yourself a favor and have a look at XSitePro.

Once you get the hang of that it's so easy and quick.

Wp is an awful lot of clicking around compared to that. Timeconsuming!

Doesn't matter if you only have a few sites, but when you have a lot to manage....

Are you suggesting all the bloggers are having "abnormal" sites...?

I also would prefer blog instead of simple html site. Main reasons - that it is easier to manage your content on blog and as far I understand Google likes blogs better than those simple sites.

I do a self hosted WordPress blog but my main index page is a static page (not a blog post) so it's keyword optimized for a keyword I have in mind.

My articles/blog section of the wordpress site is constantly updated with new articles and those are syndicated out to article directories/web 2.0's. These are also each targetting a keyword (long tail, less competitive than my main index).

Does that make sense? End result is a blog running Wordpress that looks like a static website with a blog section.

Actually, I have found Joomla to be an even more powerful and diverse CMS than even the mighty Wordpress. It's not a blog, but you can use it like one and a million other things, if you can get past the learning curve.

Wordpress is the easiest. That is why most people choose it, including myself.

Definitely wp for all the reasons above. Unless you are an html/css wizard but you have no idea how to use wp, I can't think of a reason to not use wp. Even then, there is a much milder learning curve when picking up wp than just about anything else.

  • I prefer normal websites vs blogs. The reason is, everyone has a blog these days lol. If you want to stand out I believe you need a nice unique website!
