Paypay Dispute BS (What now?)

Alright, I'm pretty frustrated right now, but here goes.

I purchased some software last night from an affiliate vendor. The transaction was through 2Checkout (2co.com) and payment was completed with paypal.

Initially, the download link only gave me a 199 byte file. Obviously not the software I had purchased...WTF!

I immediately contacted the seller, and to his credit, he contacted me fairly quickly. He provided a link from which I was finally able to download the software. All was well....or so I thought.

Upon installation of the software, the final step was activation. This was accomplished with "White Knight Protector" which is apparently some kind of product protection software. The activation screen stated that I needed to be connected to the internet to complete installation.

I clicked on the activation link and was taken to a page telling me that "the "White Knight Protector" account is no longer active, please contact whoever you bought the software from"
You can guess the rest....no response from the seller.

Well....now the rest of the story.

After SEVERAL ignored emails, I decided to file a Paypal dispute. It seemed simple enough. The paypal dispute process leads you through pages of checkboxes that I suppose they figure covers every transaction possible under the sun. I ended up describing my transaction (with checkboxes) as having received my item (I did get the download), but it did not work. I also described (with checkboxes) that I suspected the item to be pirated software.

I clicked the "File a Claim" button, only to be taken immideately to a page telling me I'm SOL because "I received my item" and that circumstance is not covered under Paypal protection policy, and to take it up with the seller.

This is obviously not an accurate description of my screwing, so now the ultimate purpose of this rant.

Who the hell do I call, and what is the number of this person, to get this dispute properly explained and re-opened?

Or am I just screwed?

PayPal buyer protection only covers if the item was delivered or not, it does not cover the condition of the product once it is delivered.

Also, PayPal offers no protection on digital products. Don't expect much in the way of help from PayPal for downloadable products.

You only option at this point is to try to contact the seller and work out something with them.

You bought through 2co, so try and claim through them. It may work, and they are quite keen on giving customers refunds. (So I've found to my cost)

personally I would have gone through them first anyway

    Good luck

I've started the procedure with 2CO. They seem to have a much better procedure than paypal. Hopefully I'll either have my registration, or a refund in a couple of days.

Start wiht the seller support desk.
    then the transaction company
    then paypal diispute resolution
then credit card buyer protection or fraud protection
then the feds for fraud (I think it could also be mail fraud if across states)

I'm not the expert but that is the way I would do it.

Not trying to say you haven't had a bad deal, but...

Ummm - you bought the software last night and you tried filing a dispute already? "Several" ignored emails? Did you think about at least giving it a day or two, so if the guy was just away from his computer he had a chance to respond?

Can you file under "unauthorized charge"? I know there is a serial refunder here that files unauthorized charge disputes as a way to get wso's for free and try to get around the digital product rule.

I think you'll be alright with 2CO, I've gotten refunded through there before when I had a problem.

Though I'd suggest giving it some time. Typically they like to try and resolve it peacefully with a completed sale whenever possible. Hopefully the seller will contact you.

    Just a few observations...

Several months ago I purchased a product through PayPal and a few days later asked the seller for a refund. I was refused so ended up going through PayPal's dispute resolution. All of my communication was with the seller; PayPal didn't get involved at all. ..disappointing to me. I had hoped PayPal would have at least played a minimally supportive role.

Though I've had much more experience with PayPal than 2CO, I was very pleased with the customer service and level of communication I recently had with 2CO regarding a subscription payment that went somewhat awry.

2CO was incredibly supportive, courteous, resolved the issue quickly. They also gave me the option of having the transcript of our conversation e-mailed to me. Good to have had it been needed...

2CO appears to be more willing to get involved; PayPal seems somewhat more "removed."

Sorry to say, sounds like whoever sold you this software does NOT
have the rights to ... this of course may not be the case but as I use
White Knite Protector myself, looks like it.

You can get in touch with the WKP product
creator (Alan Reece) here ... he`ll help you

    FEEDBACK

Just checked my account ... doesn`t seem to be down
at all ... slight chance WKP was down when you tried.

He will be very interested to know if someone is in fact
selling his software without a licence ... as said, this may
not be the reason, anyone can "lock" their own products
using WPK ... PM me the name of the software and I`ll
let you know if it`s Alan`s or not ... he`s a member here
but his username escapes me at the moment.

Just tell 2co the item does not work, was significantly not as described, and ask for a refund.

Their own policy is to issue a refund in these cases.
