Are people being told to act like idiots, or do they do it on their own?

Howdy Warriors,

So, we see this kind of thing from time to time:

Somebody comes in and posts a whole bunch of one-liners (usually in the Off Topic section). BUT...they don't even have a signature.

Of course, that wouldn't be acceptable, but at least you could see what the motivation is.

Is it because they want to spam people via PM, and are trying to reach the 50 post minimum? If so, then it's fun to imagine their frustration when they make post after post and don't see their post count go up (I say let's all keep them guessing).

But, here's what I'm really curious about. Are these people being told to act like idiots, or are they just naturally idiots?

All the best,
Michael

      Michael,

Once they get enough posts to have a sig (is that how it works?) those junk posts get populated with their sig.

I say we nuke those posts...

        Hi Bill,

That's part of my confusion, I guess. I'm not sure what the post counts are for unlocking various things (sigs, links, etc.)

I agree whole heartedly that they should be nuked, but part of the problem is that various people will report a different post. That being said, I'm sure the Super Mods will get it straightened out soon enough.

(But if they could just give a few of us access to a "Nuke-A-Spammer" button, I'd be happy to take care of it.)

        All the best,

I'd raise my hand for one of those.

They can take it away from me if I ever blow a call and that would be cool, as well.

Just let me have an 'easy' button for a while to nuke those bozos. After a while repeated reporting of spam posts becomes a pain in the butt when you're trying to get other work done...

Now that's clever! Not good or bad, but clever.

The particular person that prompted this post seemed to have been done by a human. For example, in a post asking about music, the said the name of their favorite band. Unless, of course, the bot is smart enough to do this, too.

It maybe human, but its the worst in humans that piggy backs, add's 0 value, and then starts using their forum profile and posts solely for backlinking purposes.

Instead of writing their posts in 1 minute or less it would be better to invest a little. Warrior Forum is a bit like a bank, invest in it and in the long term you will be fine.

I don't know if its a bot, but hope not, cause its just going to devalue the threads and lead to extra work for the mods.

There is also the possibility of creating an account for the purpose of selling it later once it has "matured".

In that case your 'bank' remark comes into play albeit in a different light.

                    Spot on, Chirs.

I often tell people to contribute the Warrior Forum. I then go on to expalin what that does and doesn't mean.

Note: The word is contribute, not post; there's a big difference, and it seems like you get it.

Once he starts making $100BAZILLIONDOLLARSGUARANTEED$$FROM$FORUM$$ he'll be outsourcing it for $130 a month. (Not $180, or $250, because those are the expensive outsourcers.) Then we'll get the real outsourced spam and not pesky honest-to-goodness real human interaction with the perpetrator.

Signature link requirements have changed since I became a member. I assume it is the ability to PM that is driving them to their initial posting frenzy.

I was actually on the lists of a few respected people that will remain nameless, before I arrived here.

I was told on a few occasions to come here and post "quick responses" so I could PM others and once my post count was 40 or above, I'd have a reputation and people will then buy off of my signature. When I read this I naturally assumed everyone here must be a mug.

I then came here and realised, there were not only a lot of very successful people here but people that were much more intelligent than me too.

In fact after an hour here, reading the posts, I realised what a goldmine I'd found. I'm still here with no signature and nothing to sell, well, in the MMO niche anyway. It's sad to see so many others coming here with absolutely no idea what they're missing out on by posting absolute turd for what is quite frankly a fantasy.

I wish people would realise reputation has nothing to do with post count and all to do with how you conduct yourself when here. :p

Ha ha yeah i fully agree with your post, i think when some new people join they have the smart idea that they are the only person to have the brilliant idea to break the rules and potentially make millions of dollars by doing things the wrong way. Little do they know that here on the WF is strictly one place where nobody will pay attention to dumb a*** that do it. Anyhow i say let them go and see how much of their valuable time they can waste doing it.

I don't know about people's background but I spent all my working career in face to face selling. I'm not talking about pots and pans (no disrespect Zig Zaglar).

It has been my experience that people are trained to try and learn something for FREE. Well, I'm not interested in becoming an unpaid consultant.(LOL)

Most of the questions I see being asked are simple. On the internet there is plenty of information about these subjects.

Now that I agree with completely!

I'm not saying there are no bots, just as I said in my post earlier, people do actually tell people to just come here, make loads of posts and the cash rolls in.

I was even told, before I joined, that affiliate links in the signature were encouraged - That says a lot when you look at some of the numbskulls here.

That's exactly what they called it. "Hey, this is how you do forum marketing, post lot's of s***, get lots of posts, then sell lot's of s***)

...and then some people believe it's that easy.

I've nothing against people selling WSO's or having signatures at all. I'm just saying the people we're talking about in this post, that Michael has highlighted are doing it wrong. Very wrong.

That's straightforward though, as Kay just confirmed he/she/robot got banned.

Just to point out, from an ex restaurant servers experience, people are simply just idiots. These are probably the same people that used to come in to the mexican restaurant I worked at and order a cheese burger for $10. Seriously, that is what mcdonald's is for.

Anyway, back to the topic. If they are just trying to reach the 50 posts, then they could actually reply to questions in posts or add to questions to get there. It really is not that difficult and it is hilarious to me that they don't get it.

Unless things have changed.... I believe that prior to you having a signature; those posts will not have your sig attached to them. At least thats the way I found vBulletin code to be.

For example, say I am SPAMMER X, and I need 50 posts to have a sig. I could make 50 dumb one liners, so I could have a sig file...

But when I post those one liners, because there is no sig set, it's doesn't {I think} call back to the signature = SPAMMER X sig... However, if I had a sig at that time it would do a callback to find my latest sig.

At least, that's how the code used to be... I don't know if there is a change.... What the spammers really want is the 50 posts to get a signature, so that they then have it on there profile.... Most of the time, though, it's automatedly set to make a sig, because the feature is disabled, the bot posts for no reason half the time .

But, no I don't believe it shows on there old posts.

    Caleb

Since I'm talking about my sig... I'll just remove it for this post
