does Iphone 4 support flash

I just sent a friend to watch one of my videos. He said his iPhone would not play it.

Does an Iphone have flash capabilities?

I sent it last week to someone who had an android and it played fine.

It does not have flash but it has an app to watch youtube videos.

You can install flash on an iphone 4 if you 'jailbreak' it but that is not recommended.

I'm going to go out a limb here and say that the iphone 4 likely does not support flash. I have used ipod touch (which is basically the iphone without the phone) and the ipad. None of them support flash. I believe Apple stays away from flash completely in their ios.

    That.

For the rest of you mac clones, no flash for you.

Wow thats probably why Droids are tracking up the market so fast.

I wonder if it will be a revisit of the PC and Mac wars.

Apple hates Flash with unbridled passion, and Steve Jobs has been very public about that, LOL! But, Adobe does have a Flash app for the iPhone, however it is clunky.

    It doesn't.

That is one of many reasons I went with Android.

I got me one of these cool tablets too:

All the more reason to use an html5 video player. Flash is dying kids. I've been saying it for 10 years but it's finally coming true. The new MacBook air doesn't come with flash either.

Maybe. Maybe not. With android phones and tablets supporting flash Apple may give in and support it as well.

I guess it all hinges on how fast, far, and wide HTML5 is adapted.

I don't think Flash is going anywhere. At worst it'll have a smaller footprint but games will still be designed in flash as will animation.

Apple's next big update to OS X, 10.7 (codename: "Lion"), will ship with neither Flash nor Java on the install DVD.

Apple sees these two technologies as the gaps in security thru which malware can enter a Macintosh. So they're leaving it up to the customer to decide whether or not to install them; if they do, any problems that arise will be the responsibility of Adobe or Sun. But not Apple.

Apple has been pushing hard for its HTML 5 version to be the new standard for over a decade, spuriously claiming that the propietary Adobe flash is a big resource hog for the iPhone, iPad and MacBooks. Expect this war to go on for at least another 10 years or even longer until all the HTML 5 versions become standardized.

Uncle Steve says Flash is too slow and resource hungry ...
it can take up too much memory to run large apps and drain battery power etc,

Flash wont disappear ... it'll simply evolve (as IS currently evolving).

For those who want to give their users a flash experience AND
cater to iphones / ipads etc,

you can use 'Flash Alternative Content'.

some simple jscript will either show the flash content,
or alternative content to iphone / ipad users.

just PM if anyone needs a hand with this,
I can give you the code.

HTML5 is in its baby stages. It will be a few years before it catches up to "some" of flashes capabilities. This meaning, I don't think it will ever do as much as flash does right now. So, there should be a mutual synergy going on between the two because they could technically work together in doing what each does best. You have to remember why Steve Jobs is pushing HTML5. I don't necessarily know ALL of his motives, but I don't think that the motives are just because they say "it's better". Take a look at most of the pages that contain it. Load them up on your iPhone and you will see that they suck. It's a strategic move on his part. Control comes to mind. If Apple allowed the flash player on their phones, then there would be a flood of games and a flood of developers...FLOODING the app store! Could they keep up with this demand or would the approval/rejection turnaround take a long time like it once did. Adobe even came up with a Flash-to-iPhone App packager in CS5 and Apple quickly changed their App Store rules stating that they were not going to allow third party compilers or the sorts. I'm sure there are many other reasons aside from this.

Then there is Skyfire, a browser based iPhone app that allows you to view flash FLV files. When you use the browser, it basically re-encodes the flash video on their servers and changes the file to an iOS friendly codex so that you can watch it. Kind of like putting a band-aid on an open wound. That's why I have two devices. I originally got the iPhone, but also have an Android Tab. There is so much hype due to Apple's marketing and so many people buy into it. I once did, but I woke up. Don't get me wrong because I've loved Apple Products (I have a MacBook Pro in addition - and on the contrary, a PC). At least one can watch flash video, play flash games and do whatever you want with flash on Android.

Just install "Super" video converter and convert it to .mp4 and provide link for iphone users, if you're desperate for that audience.

That is one of the things that's kept me from targeting the mobile audience.

No, apple device do not support flash. But if your device had jailbroken, you can installed a plug-in which named "Frash", and your apple device can view the flash.

    Nope.
Like others said jailbreak and download would work.

Or there are some apps. (Skyfire) [paid app] can view flash on MOST sites. You can try that out if you want as well.

Yes, you're right, I forget a big web browser - Skyfire, this web browser can help to read flash too.

Eventually third parties already started creating apps that can play flash...problem is it doesn't work on safari.....Why worry about flash ...in the later date ....HTML5 will take over...and alot more open source (like Smokescreen)will convert flash dedicated for HTML5...It's just a matter of time...but i do agree that Adobe will make Flash better in the future.

HTML5 is still an evolving standard, and I don't think anyone wants to wait 10 years for it to be fully developed into an established standard, do you?

Steve Jobs has publicly blackballed Adobe's Flash platform and is against it in no uncertain terms, so don't expect to see Flash running on any Apple mobile devices anytime soon (iPod touch, iPhone, iPad).

there actually is an application in which you can watch flash as you buy the app and than it goes through their servers and uses flash. Really cool idea but it has crashed their server due to the popularity of the service and lack of bandwith. I have a similar idea for china if anybody is interested in developing a huge venture with me.
