Facebook: Account Question

A lot of potentail customers are on Facebook for my product. There are quite a few groups in my niche.

I would like to contact each of these group members and politely ask them to take a look at my group.

I was planning on having a VA (outsourced) do the inviting. I have written up a nice invitation that I would like her to use.

The question is what account should I be using?

I have my own personal account with some friends and family I am connected with. I certainly do not mind having my name attached to the product and I promote my name on our blog and on our autoresponder series.

MY hesitation is that my outsourcer messes up and does something wrong and possibly gets my account flagged. She invites someone and then gets them all pissed off for some reason. (not sure that would happen but want to have my bases covered)

Suggestions?

Can you create an account on Facebook with the Product Name?

Or maybe create an account "Scott_Product Name"

I believe Facebook participants will enjoy our group and I am only inviting people that have shown an interest in another group similar to ours. However we will be a little aggressive and invite 100 or so people per day. Or whatever # is acceptable.

Any Facebook pro's out there?

Thanks

  • Ok here is the deal with Facebook. They are really hard to market on (not like Myspace at all) because they really don't like people promoting much of anything at all. You can only request a few friends at a time or they'll tell you they're going to disable your account. You can only message a few people at a time as well and it's especially hard if you plan on sending the same message to multiple people.

My thought would be to tread very delicately with this and keep it extremely unsalesy. Maybe start off very small yourself and test some invitations yourself and see what the response is like. I don't think people will mind as long as the group seems legitimate and not something where they're going to be hit with sales.

I don't know whether I'd qualify as a facebook expert (although I have been on for 3 years), but my advice would be this is going to have to come from a personal account that has history. Ie. your friends, family, album. Creating an account with the product name will definitely get you flagged and definitely feel spammish.

    Hi,

I've heard that inviting more than 50 people per day to your group will throw up a red flag. You won't get disabled, but it's best not to push the envelope so to speak. Facebook is very strict about spam. This came from a Facebook "pro" who uses it to market his business. I'm not a pro by any means as I'm just now starting to use it myself.

    All the best,

    Alan

Not true, it depends on how "aged" the profile is, and how active you are in it.

There is different rules that apply if you have 100 friends, 1000 or 5000 (maximum amount of friend you can have)friends. They know that people with 4k friends do a lot more msg sending and so on, and are more relaxed wit the rules.

For the OP, you cant open a "Scott's product page" as that will get flagged. You can open another account for your VA, and you can verify it by doing a phone verification(get one of those cheap prepaid call packs) .

      Hope this helps

Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense.

Facebook will disable your account for sending too many messages and even for sending too many replies to messages you receive from others. The best thing you can do is move the conversations off their site and email-to-email (or phone-to-phone) as quickly as possible.

Same goes for Twitter and most other social media sites. They are intended for "networking with friends" and are not business/marketing friendly sites.

I don't do too much messaging, just here and there. As far as adding people as a friend, inviting them to my group, etc., I've never ran into a problem.

My guess would be that it holds true that the more friends you have the more lenient they are because they realize that you're going to be doing more of that stuff. Just start out slow to begin with, and once you get a good number of friends you can add more and more each day.

As far as the main question, I would use a personal account as suggested. You can create a group that has your product name. It doesn't hurt to have your personal account connected with a "business" group by any means. I think it's better as people get to see who you really are as a person and will respect you more for it.

I have one account and use it for both.

    Hope that helps.
