I know, I know, how can we even been thinking about Christmas 2011, right? Well, I purcahsed about 4 long-tail keyword domains a few weeks back and have been working with wordpress themes, etc. Just wanted an opinion on if its too early to start posting toy review articles. These would be entirely fresh content but toys that were popular last Christmas (2010). I have started my research (thanks to the american toy fair that is now going on) and have the names of some hot toys that are coming out this fall and I will write reviews and post them like crazy then. However, I was thinking to get the sites indexed and going I should post a review every week or so......

Am I on the right track or should I let the domains sit and do nothing for awhile?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

The sooner you get content up the better! You can always add to it later.

Its definitely not too early to get started, what I would recommend is that you buy domains based on toys that are popular every year...check out the traffic spikes using Google Insights tool and try to find toys that peak every year in December...these are sure to be hits in 2011 and for years to come.

Congrats on taking action...just be prepared for a long road ahead!

I'm assuming that, for instance, if the popular toy is Dancing Elmo that you don't mean buy dancingelmo.com----wouldn't I run into problems with trademarking in my domain name?

One more thing, you dont necessarily need to write a new post for each site every week...Id focus on doing that closer to Xmas...right now just get your site up and get it indexed and ranked...tweak it and add content to it nearer to Xmas (every week wouldnt be necessary so far from Xmas in my opinion)

maybe it is wise to check google trends and see how the trends develop. Off course you cannot start soon enough. creating quality takes time. things like backlinks and exposure take some time to develop. I would advise you to start building a list as soon as possible. That way if christmas approaches you will have quite a big list al already. Remember: The Money Is In The List!

This is a very good suggestion. I, however, maybe because I'm tired or whatever, am having trouble coming up with something to build my list with........any suggestions?

This is the perfect time to start your Christmas sites. The more content you have on your sites the better situated you will be for next Christmas.

This is actually a very smart marketing move you are making.

It is going to be a little tough to build a list now, because most people are not going to be searching online for Christmas related things right now. They start up in August. So now is the tiemeto get your sites put together and ranked.

But this is a great time to add content to your sites and get them found for a bunch of keywords.

That's what I was thinking. Slowly populate with content now to get natural search engine traffic and then worry about the list mid/late summer.

This is something I am doing also. I had domains set up for 2010 that are going to work for any Christmas period. I did OK this year I'm sure that by adding content once a week to each site they will be primed and ready for much bigger sales in 2011.
There are 2 methods I use.
1 is very product specific. e.g. Woody Dolls
2 is where I have generic sites in a niche. e.g. Disney Toys

I started a Christmas site last Sept. I did OK last Christmas. But I'm working hard to get a good ranking for this year.

I'm building backlinks and write articles for my blog. Hopefully this will help get some rankings.

    Good luck with your site.

Thanks for all the input. It's hard to think about christmas but I started WAY too late last year and don't want to let the $$$ slip by this year!
