Amazon Affiliates - Need Some Input On This....

Hey,

Ok, I have been an amazon affiliate for a little while now, but have always been linking to products through braod websites.

What I mean by that is,

I may have a website that is:

WoodenTableReviews.com

And I would promote amazon via here no problem.

Anyway, I went to open a new Amazon account in a different country recently and used a website that had a product name in it. Due to copyright, Amazon refused my application.

So, my question is, are any of you promoting Amazon products on websites with product names in the URL? If so, how do you get around the copyright issue?

    YES

however, I have only one, it is "brandproductname.co.uk". this was not present at time of application.

so in short I am not entirely sure if it is a problem or not. Amazon's guidelines say you cannot have a URL with "amazon" in it, and that is all. so far my other sites have made money but the one with the product name in it has not, I am considering emailing them to ask...

It is my understanding you cannot put a company/product name in the URL. What I do is place the product model as the post title and as category and tags.

According to the Terms and Conditions for the main Amazon site, you aren't supposed to use trademarked material on or within your site in a way that infringes on the trademark owner.

"For example, you will be solely responsible for:

using the Content, your site, and the materials on or within your site in a manner that does not infringe, violate, or misappropriate any of our rights or those of any other person or entity (including copyrights, trademarks, privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or proprietary rights);"
So the bottom line is that it's not permitted.

I've had domains with trademarks in them, and I've always gotten a cease and desist letter from the trademark owner.

Just a heads up... proceed at your own risk.

I write press releases that generate clicks, leads and sales. Great reviews!

Exactly. There are people that do it and even promote it, but the bottom line is you are on dangerous ground and it's a very risky way to build a business. Better safe than sorry later

I took the liberty of emailing them to ask, this is their response:

    ----------
Further to your e-mail, I have reviewed your website and would suggest that it may be prudent to contact *BRAND* to verify that their brand name is not considered to be infringed.

Although the name is not specifically in violation through the use of our name and brand.

I would recommend that you review suitability of the title in accordance with Section 5 of the Operating Agreement
    ----------

so amazon are not bothered, but the manufacturer might be. i have contacted them and not heard anything back, so i'm going to crack on with it.

    Cool, thanks Matt.

I also heard, a few months back that in the US, (not sure about other countries), if you have review in the domain, it is allowed!

Not sure if this is true or not though!
