IM's just not mac friendly

Hey guys, I switched to Mac about a year ago, I've a macbook. I like it. The only problem is, every time there's some free software on here, it's not mac friendly.

Also, I need to find some proxy tunnel software, also not mac friendly.

I know I can run windows, but I tried that, and it crashed my laptop after a few weeks... so reluctant to try it again... anyone else on a mac feeling left out in the cold?

I don't use one myself, but as I state in this thread, I like to make sure I test my products out on my girlfriend's for usability. =)

I use a Mac and I've never felt that way. VirtualBox is a great thing.

@Zabrina - VirtualBox is definitely cool!

Macs are definitely entertainment-oriented, it seems. I know several IM gurus who do use Macs, though.

I was able to find MAC versions I used to use on Windows. I switched to MAC 6 months ago and still have my old PC if I want to run something specific for that. Of course there are times when it was nice that everything was on 1 machine.

Try a different program like Virtual Box or Parallels ... perhaps trying a different emulator will fix your crashing issues. Or use Bootcamp.

But I have NO regrets of going to MAC.

Tell that to Brad Gosse, EVERYTHING he does is in a mac. (And just look at his success)

Just use a virtual windows emulator, ya it might not be perfect but mac's are generally better overall.

I stopped trying to convince IM'ers to switch ages ago when I realized if I sell macs too hard, who will get all the spyware?

Mac has only pierced the 5% market share envelope briefly a couple times in its 25 year + history, so there is little incentive for programmers to write for it. Even the virus writers don't bother to write for the Mac.

I used Macs in a multimedia teaching gig I did, so I'm fine with them, but it's a Windows world. Even that college ended up switching their whole program from Mac to Windows due to software issues.

Emulation programs are your best bet.

Just get a pc laptop to run the software that you need to run. I have 4 mac's and an ipad and I still have the lonely toshiba laptop sitting there on the desk too.

I've been using mac for years. My husband switched to mac about 2 years ago and he loves it. He still runs xp through bootcamp when he needs it and has never had any issues with it.

In fact, he constantly tells people that his mac runs windows better than any pc he's ever had.

I was over at a friends house just a few days ago who just grossed 100k in one week from an IM launch and when we got there he was in his living room smashing his pc out of frustration, with 3 or 4 macbook pros and an ipad just laying around.

I also made a video on my blog about how I dug up an old ibook and an old pc from some boxes (just moved into a new house) and neither of them had been turned on in 2 years.

They both worked last time they were used so I tried to plug them in and see if they would work.

The ibook came on pretty much right away and the battery actually help a little bit of a charge. The hp laptop wouldn't even turn on or take power.

I've always had better experiences with mac and find them to just work better.

    Just my opinion.

I use a Mac and haven't had many problems. Sure, there's IM software that's made for Windows only like keyword research tools and automated backlinking software, but then there's always Parallels or Bootcamp as someone already pointed out. But for 90% of the things I need to do like setting up a Wordpress blog, submitting posts, opt-in forms, creating pdfs, setting up paypal etc, Mac works perfectly fine for me.

I originally started with Dec vax and switched over to unix and then to pc. A few years back I made the switch to Mac. Moved the entire office. Was something I wanted to do for ages. Bit of a pain at times so we invested in parallels for desktop. In truth we buckled and bought a couple of pc's to run a few apps that we don't like running on emulators. Ironically, the software we've installed on the pc's costs more than the pc computers! Times have changed.

I have a Mac and know your frustration lol, I use Virtualbox which is free and Win7...and though it's cool flipping back and forth, I sometimes have so many windows open it's confusing. I'm pry going to get another PC desktop to run everything on and keep the Mac for entertainment (great for watching 2-3 movies on a plane on battery that no windows laptop will come close to touching).

Virtualbox - or VMware (with windows installed) are the usual solutions to your situation.

PC's are so cheap though - if you really need to run some IM software you can probably do it on a really cheap 2nd pc/laptop.
