How to manage/organize affiliate links?

Good day to everyone.

I'm helping a friend register for several affiliate programs. She is being overrun with affiliate links and would like to organize all the links/banner codes in one place. She thinks a spreadsheet will work but I am not so sure. I have offered to build a simple FileMaker database for her.

Alternatively, is there a piece of ready-made software that makes storing/organizing/managing affiliate info easy? Or perhaps an online service that does this?

Can any suggest a great solution for managing affiliate links and code in one place (rather than having to log into each affiliate account to get links/code)?

    Personally I wouldn't trust or want to use an online service for this.

    I keep mine in a simple word-processor document (and back up all my word-processor documents continually with an automated thing). It's a little bit low-tech, perhaps, but terribly simple and convenient.

      I use a simple text document to handle this myself.

      I don't trust an online service to handle this either, so it is natural to me.

      I usually sort them out by the niches I work with, and keep things separate in folders with other notes and such.

      One thing to note, I can somewhat understand being overwhelmed with the links at a later point... starting out she may want to slow it down. There is simply no reason to keep affiliate links for hundreds of products that she may get around to promoting "some day."

      Affiliate networks and such change offers quite often, making the hoarding of a bunch of links potentially worthless anyways (not to mention could be a full time job to keep up with.)

      The better option would be to grab the links as they are needed, and filing them with information that you also use to promote the niche.

    I think the two above me summed it up pretty well. I use a text document but I'm only starting out with several links Is there a reason she's signed up to several programs to begin with? She might be better off picking the best one and working one at a time. It may help her to focus better on one program at a time as well.

    I suggest you visit niftystats.com. It is a desktop app that can help you manage all your affiliate accounts, from adsense, clickbank, ebay, etc.. You can join under my affiliate but I purely want to help you..so just go ahead..

      @Alexa, Clintoc, David and Agep_Flippo: Thanks for your response. I will pass along your suggestions.

      @David: She signed up to Commission Junction, ShareASale and LinkShare, in addition to some individual vendors. She's in the 'organics' niche, but I'm not sure what strategy she's using.

      @Agep_Flippo: I don't think that an affiliate statistics monitor is what she's looking for right now, as there probably won't be much to monitor initially.

        Best bet I've always found a excel work the best to organize everything if set up correctly. Can send you an example of over 5 years of experience in organizing it if you want? Gary

          Hey pharetajh,

          I am actually in the process of creating a new software app which is based on what you need -- keeping track of any affiliate programs you join. It already is setup to log banners, text links, etc. (and much more of course)... plus I am also adding in some features to help keep track of commissions as well...

    I store all of my affiliate links in a ms word text file. I organize them by the product name, product niche, and the date the link was generated.

    I guess, For a particular affiliate product you need to manage the banners, images, and many other promotional material along with the links. So what software could manage all these things in a single place? any suggestions??

      I probably use fewer of those than some affiliates. I rarely use any that the vendor may provide (they always seem to be the wrong colors and sizes - and sometimes styles - for my sites and my customer demographics). I make my own, and I save them under "my pictures" on my computer (also continually backed up automatically).

      It's never occurred to me that there's any need to do that.

      I've thought about it only for 3 minutes, now that you've suggested it, but I can't immediately see any advantage to that, compared with what I'm doing at the moment, which seems both easy enough and secure enough. I'm just storing the "text parts" with my other "text files" and the images with my other "pictures" - and both are getting backed up - this seems much simpler and more straightforward, to me?

      I keep all that stuff in Onenote; links, graphics, notes, logins, whatever. It's part of the MS Office suite. Syncs automatically between my desktop and laptop when they're awake together on the network.

      I believe Evernote is the online equivalent, 'tho I haven't check it out myself.

    I use google docs for saving all of my data like affiliate links which i would need any time.. by google docs i can access them any time whether I am in office or home or wherever.
