Great News, I Got Laid Off Today!

Laid off from my full time marketing gig today. I'll skip the sob story and get right to the point.

I have some consulting clients, so I'm not totally screwed here. However I need to find a way to make at a minimum $150 per day.

I have marketing, design and web skills. Can even write some decent copy when the mood strikes.

If you were in my shoes knowing the basic knowledge that I posses what would you do?

Are there IM options or online businesses that have both a quick turn around and are sustainable?

Thanks for any help.

These type of posts honestly confuse the hell out of me. You're a freakin' expert in web design, marketing and copywriting. Why on earth are you asking how to make money? You have everything you need to succeed.

    Or do you?

Ok, perhaps I should be more clear. Not asking "how to make money."

I'm asking how would YOU make money in this situation.

I was hoping to find some interesting or creative IM suggestions that might also work.

It makes no difference how WE would make money. You need to capitalize on your skills and your knowledge ... not ours. Sounds like you already have skills that you can sell as a service or create some affiliate websites or take on customers to build sites for them. Go offline and get some web design customers. The options are endless.

You have alot of great skills. You could do a couple things.

--Create a short report in your area of expertise to give away. Make
sure you drive traffic to your blog/site to have them download the free report. In the report make sure to put some links in to a "Full Report" that you create and costs a few bucks. As people optin you will build your list and create a great future income.

--You can also use the Full Report as a WSO, to build your list. There are things you might think are so easy for you and nobody would be interested in buying. Believe me people are more then willing to save time
and spend a few bucks to get there hands on your info.

--Another thing you could do is offer your services as a wso. A great way to kickstart your business.
          Thanks!

@Bruce - Hey, cry us a river, ok?

@mindmarketing - I get it. I was a Senior Copywriter at Yahoo for 6 yrs, got laid off and jumped into IM. It's a new gig, no doubt. If I were you I'd network here at WF, maybe post a couple of ads in the Warrior For Hire area, and maybe create a small WSO relevant to what you know from your marketing job. You'll make it. I get many, many jobs here, most on accident. I also have some niches that make money but I've been at it a little bit.

You'll do great! Work like a mutha.

So my WSO is going to be "How to take as much stuff as you can carry from the company that just laid you off before leaving."

    Catchy title right?

I'll release it in ebook and video format with live examples.

I think that's a great idea. Nothing wrong with making up your own severance!

Now, you had made money, you will need to get more client to your page, what ever on freelance website or your page. More traffic to your landing page, you will have change to make more money. When you have enough, you can build a system for outsource your works. This is a way to increase your income.

hey, I'm with you... but I've found that the forums like this one are the most valuable to learn from cause they don't allow crap.
I have 11,000 email addresses that I've acquired over the last year, with DOB, full name, and phone #.... but I'm not sure what I can do with them...
Maybe we can brain storm and I can share some value with you. ?

    what do you think?

Take your many skills to small businesses. If you really wanted more clients I am sure you could work hard enough to find some, even if you had to pay some sales commission to other people to land those clients for you.

That's an idea I'm going to look into. I have no problem paying someone to sell my services. Are there opportunities to find people for this on WF or would I be better off going to a service like odesk?

One idea is to offer your services to businesses in the industry you were working in. You're no doubt familiar about the industry and therefore can provide quality content whether copy, SEO content, and/or web design.

You may even have some contacts. Aside from getting work on the WF, it's another path with less resistance than trying to break into a market you're not familiar with.

Honestly, if I had to pick an opportunity right now, (other than the one I'm already in), I would work with Mark Hoverson in GRN.
So find somebody cool and start working with them. And don't limit yourself to $150 a day.

For me, don't throw all your eggs in one basket. If make a living from online income is your goal, you need to be realistic dear warrior. It won't happen overnight, but It could happen to you , if you have the drive and discipline. I think you can create an account on freelancer.com, you can find full time and part time gigs over there...I wish you the best....And always keep working online, sooner or later, it could become your full time job.

odesk is for cheap stuff. You can't really compete with $2-5 Filipino and Bangladeshi providers there.
Elance is better but you have to charge very little until you build up feedback profile.

I'd say provide services right here on the Warrior forum.
I hired one guy to do basic wordpress stuff for me, He could not keep up with the orders so he doubled his rate.

Post a web design or copywriting ad and you will get orders lined up in no time.
Start with a lower rate, once you get a ton of orders lined up, increase it. Also keep the details of your clients or get them on a special list, and upsell them higher ticket services later.

This is not true(at least the first part). I have given many people advice to go to odesk and offer services when they are in a bind or want to get something going. It is always summarily dismissed with some comment like "I'm not gonna work for $2 an hour..." Why would I or anyone want to hire someone so quick to dismiss.

I spent well over $100k at odesk last year... And I paid several people upwards of $50 an hour. You just gotta have skills that are worth that. I'm not going to pay you that kind of money to do spam blog comments for me... But you gotta find out what people are buying and learn how to be valuable.

There's lots of work on Craigslist. I go there everytime and help a few people with website development, SEO, social marketing, etc. I find it quite surprising when I offer my services here they tend to be shy and not answer or have someone new to the forum do the work, although I've done a few work here on WF as well.

By the way, I went to your site and you have some projects listed but no live samples. If you did some work then its good to add the link to the site you've already done.

Yeah, that makes sense. I have to tweak that section of my site for sure. Especially now that I'm going to be relying on whatever work I can bring in while I try to land on my feet.

      Thanks fort he advice.
