Are you a professional internet marketer?

Hi! I'm making a research.

I believe that a professional internet marketer is very well organized. There are various indispensable steps that a wise internet marketer must follow in order to succeed.

The basic steps for a successful marketing plan must be based on:

* Finding the right audience. The right audience is composed by customers who easily purchase the products you promote.

* Selling to your specific audience the right products, and later, creating similar products. The right products are the ones that your customers are already buying online.

* Learning how to market to your audience, so that you may have the best results.

* Making regular sales.

Now, I would like to know your definition.

What is professional internet marketing?

Thank you!

Call me old-fashioned, but I take the literal meaning of "professional", i.e. non-amateur, pertaining to a profession, done for a living rather than as a hobby. (Otherwise the word's just some sort of euphemism for "successful", isn't it, and can mean more or less anything you want it to mean?)

If you are a professional you are an expert in your field. This means that you know what you are doing. You are not an amateur.

What should a professional internet marketer do, according to your point of view?

I don't think very many professional are that organized, especially when it comes to creative professionals. As for professional IM'ers? I think if you do this for a living your a pro instead of a hobbyist.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

I don't class myself as an internet marketer even though I market online. I'm just a marketer who uses then internet along with many other places to market.

You can be creative, but if you are a professional you need basic organization.

For example, you won’t create a product before finding an audience interested on purchasing it. You’ll follow a sequence, beginning with a research.

If you act blindly, without knowing if you have the chances to sell a certain product online before creating it, this means that you are not a professional. You are still learning.

My wife and I made just over $120,000 last year so we are full time, but I'm not fond of the word "professional". Why?

I believe that a professional internet marketer is very well organized. There are various indispensable steps that a wise internet marketer must follow in order to succeed. We're both unorganized.

The basic steps for a successful marketing plan must be based on:

    * Finding the right audience. The right audience is composed by customers who easily purchase the products you promote. I never know what or who our audience is until the traffic flows.

    * Selling to your specific audience the right products, and later, creating similar products. The right products are the ones that your customers are already buying online. This is trial and error - never ever knew what was going to work or sell out of the gate.

    * Learning how to market to your audience, so that you may have the best results. True -with trial and error you learn what your visitors are interested in and you base your content on testing.

    * Making regular sales. Bi-product of testing.

In my nutshell.......a so-called "professional" is an expert at TESTING, TESTING, and TESTING!

Of course testing is necessary. However, if you were organized and you’d make a marketing research before trying, you would have better results, without dealing with so many risks. You could have miserably failed.

    You are very lucky, TZ!

You are absolutely correct - I failed on some projects with spectacular carnage left scattered about. What I would call perfect cluster f*cks that drained me, and left me feeling like a failure.

BUT, even AFTER an exhaustive amount of market and keyword research and GOOD HUNCHES in play, you don't really know how lucrative it's going to be. Sometimes you WILL be right, but many times wrong.

      Why I'm driving at this is because;

I don't like seeing newbies spend weeks fretting over what direction to go instead of just taking the reins and rolling with it hard.

My failures taught me how to bounce back.
My failures brought me to learning PHP and ASP languages.
My failures brought be to mulitple streams of income.
My failures brought me to understanding how to recognize what may result in another failure.

What I'm getting at is that failure makes you remember what NOT to do with absolute crystal clear clarity.

I used to be an Aircraft Engineer and the best mechanics were the ones the often screwed something up or broke a part, or mechanism. Those were the guys (and gals) that had all the experience and knew more than anyone.

I see folks in this forum just starting out and they see SO MANY different avenues to take, and they literally get dizzy.

Those who can't handle spectacular failure won't likely ever get even close to achieving their goals.

Thank you for your definition, Laura. It’s very good!

The truth is that there are many unexpected problems an internet marketer has to deal with, even after making a serious research.

A research will help you make a smart business plan and organize your actions, so that you won’t waste your time and money doing what has no chances to help you succeed. However, a research can only guarantee that there is a market for your products. You also have to implement smart marketing strategies, and test different techniques.

Then, you have to build a relationship with your customers. This is how you’ll see the same customers purchasing all the products you may promote.

    St271 and Ahmadferi,

You must be good students and never do anything unless you know what you are doing. Many internet marketers tell you that you have to ‘take action’ instead of just reading and never doing anything. Don’t fall in this trap. Study very well all the circumstances before acting, and spend your money online only when you’ll be sure that you’ll have profit.

You must be very serious if you want to be professional internet marketers. Don’t follow TZ’s example. Study very well, analyze your market, and find your customers before looking for products to promote. First of all, find a source that will surely give you money. Only then, look for the products that your customers like and are already buying, so that you may sell them what they are already buying from your competitors. TZ is right about the importance of testing your methods, but don’t be disorganized like him. Organization is real wisdom.

Be aware that there is a fierce competition in all fields. Competition is your daily enemy online. You have to be very well organized if you want to surely succeed, without taking risks and facing frustrations.

Wisdom is better than regret. Study everything very well, and act based on real knowledge. A professional internet marketer should not act based on suppositions.

I do all that... BUT, I don´t consider myself a "professional" marketer... the title I prefer is "sissie marketer" (that is, finding my way onto the jungle using methods that work for my sissie mindset).

Sure, you have to accept failure and learn from it. Failure is part of the learning process.

You should also accept taking risks many times, instead of super-protecting yourself and never trying anything.

However, you had better be well organized and have the necessary knowledge, so that you may find a way to stand up again after failing, and do something else to survive until you’ll manage to find real success.
