New to internet marketing

Hi,

I'm a newbie in internet marketing. I've been reading so much from here and there. I've already read so many ebooks on affiliate marketing, domain flipping and so on. I've registered to most of the affiliate networks. I really want to get started with earning online. I'm ready to spend time and do the hard work. But I really lag directions. I'm short of finance also. I'll appreciate if someone could take in some time and guide me to the right path. I'll be more than happy to work in partnership with that person.

Looking forward to the help.
Thanks,
Nitin

The trick to being a successful newbie is to pick one thing and stick to it. It is extremely easy to get distracted by that next big thing coming out. And definitely take action, you will not earn a cent if you do not do anything to make it happen.

I highly agree with vicky here. Start it one thing, stick to it if you like it after a period of one or two months. If not then move on.

Let me be the one of many to tell you that money is in the list. You need to build a list of emails. This list can contain buyers from your niche, or just people in the niche you work with. Sent related niche offers to them and you are golden.

Learn from my mistake as I did not build a list and I was to stubborn to believe that a list is a key to success. Still sitting on over 4k email addresses scattered over a view inboxes.

I'd caution against using any free autoresponder service - you truly get what you pay for here. Instead, sign up for Getresponse, which I believe is free to use for up to 100 subscribers. Once you've gotten past 100 subscribers, you should be making some money from your list by then.

If you have purchased many ebooks, then you already have some value to work upon. Many ebooks are crap but there are several gems that will give you good info. A big part of the problem with newbs is that they think that they can make the money easily without doing much work. It is near impossible to do such a thing. You must act upon the information you have and stick with it. The earnings will come.

do you know how to do any keyword research? Basic SEO? Pick a product you want to promote.
Brain storm keywords/phrase people would search. Think of a different angle to approach promoting this product. Fire up a few keyword research tools get more keywords.

organize your keywords that get traffic and what you feel you can realistically can rank for. Orangize them into themes for each web2.0 you will build.Build web2.0 sites. Not one or two, I mean 30+. Then start a backlinking strategy.

This still works an works well. Do not over look the authority of these web2.0 properties. You can do this full time
      and make a nice income.

Start your keyword research and fill the pieces in as you go. Does this work? Yes.I gave this a quick over view , but I teach this locally to groups at the local library. Basically free, no domains ect, and your seo skills will grow.
      Use a spread sheet!Get cracking.

You're suffering from a classic case of newbie overload. I'd suggest focusing on one thing that is attractive to you right now (make sure it is an established method), and keep doing it until you see results. Don't expect instant income, and you'll probably have to work quite hard at it for a while until it starts taking off.

Don't be swayed by all the sales copy that promise instant riches, you're going to have to work to make headway in IM, especially if you're starting with very little funds.

    Hey Nitin,

The best thing you can do is to pick a topic, learn all you
can about it and apply what you learn.

If you try to learn different things at the same time you
will end up confused and overwhelmed and remember that a
    confused mind never accomplishes anything.

So define your niche, learn about and apply that's the
    formula.

    Thanks,

Internet marketing is a huge term, you don't make money directly from internet marketing, that's just the general income source, there are loads of different ways to make money, the first step would be to make a choice on which to go with first. For example, if your going to be affiliate marketing then there isn't much point telling you about adsense.

Pick something, learn about it, stick with it, don't give up

In addition to the parts about focusing on one thing that were mentioned, look for a Meet up group in your area on internet/search engine marketing.

You will find people there that you could learn a lot from.

You've made the classic newbie error... reading everything. Best to decide what you would like to do and follow a single path to achieving that goal. Reading everything about everything is like getting sucked into quicksand.

My advice, stop reading NOW. Pick a system, stick to it, and if it's working for you, simply rinse and repeat. I would definitely recommend google sniper, but that works for me, b/c I've been building WP websites forever and I'm used to it. The key really is to stop reading and start doing...

Spend a good weekend reading through this forum. Do not buy anything at first. Just read all the free information that you can find on here. Once you come across something that you think you could actually do, start researching that model and really learn it.

Once you decide on a course of action (ie. CPA, Affiliate, Product Creation, etc) stick to it. Dont jump from idea to idea. Give it an honest effort before moving on to the "next big thing"

    Hello
You need some guidance. Be focused and stick to one niche, or product or service and know everything about that one thing. There are so many ways to market your product and that is the art of an online business. Going to where people want your products and you have to do the research and find out where they all are.

Don't go crazy money because you see the "gurus" with thousands of dollars. They have just created multiple income streams (more than one business or product) and make little money here and there and then obviously it all adds up on clickbank.

So I agree with everyone, stop reading and start implementing what you know. And hey! Who said you had to do it on your own...

  • Hey Nitin. Offline marketing and sales experience, especially as an
independent salesperson, would be greatly helpful in my opinion. Have you
previously tried selling something offline as a source of constant income?

I sold brand new computers customized to the preferences of the buyer
back in 2000. I didn't have an office, a display area, a registered business,
computer training, sales training, marketing knowledge, capital, nothing...

    I. Market Research

There was a need for customized computers best suited for a buyer's
needs, computing purposes and budget. Nobody provided this end product and the necessary services to develop the finished product...

II. Product/Service and Unique Selling Proposition Development

Nobody provided a service computer delivered to their homes in exchange
for the cash to buy the parts and the services needed to assemble the
brand new computer and install necessary software all ordered by the
buyer before it is delivered to the buyer in exchange for the service
computer in 2 business days at the latest. No initial cash out from me,
    added benefits for buyers...

Nobody offered home service computer maintenance, upgrades and
troubleshooting at reasonable rates. Constant income for me, added value for buyers...

Regularly requested price lists from the most popular dealer of brand new
computer parts in an equally popular ICT hub here in the city. Showed
other competing dealers the price lists. They offered me lower prices.
Went to the dealer offering the same product at the lowest rates and with
additional warranties and incentives like free bundled products. Lower
prices for the same products for buyers, additional products to sell and
    more profits for me...

    III. Marketing Strategies and Campaigns

Printed product and service descriptions with photos. Photocopied those in
color. Gave them to everyone I know, each set with a unique referral
code. They earned $X each time they referred a buyer to me...

Went to heavily trafficked commercial and business areas with ICT hubs
where people go since they expect to find and purchase the latest brand
new computers and accessories there. Attached posters to the walls of
places where I expect people to be thinking of nothing else than finding
and buying the computers and accessories they need while walking in
those areas. I did not need to pay for poster placements...

Today: I think of those popular areas mentioned above as search engines
dedicated to provide the latest relevant info, content, advice, products
and services. The ICT hubs are in turn popular online places where people
interested in computers and accessories expect to find what they need
    and talk to like-minded individuals...

My posters were marketing materials posted in the right places at the right
time. My products/services provide unique benefits to my target audience.
Everyone I know were my affiliates. Their social networks were my social
    business contacts...

First of all you need to change your mindset. Believe in yourself, have a solid plan and follow your plan.
    - Do not subscribe to more list,
    - Find out how your time was wasted.
    - Find out what is productive and what's not.
    - Stick to one system, (your plan)

If you have done your work, what sort of work have you done? Where's your squeeze page? what's your plan to drive traffic?
How do you follow up your customer?
What backend product are you offering them?

I think you are not focus at all, that's why you feel you are lost. If you want some help. Private mesasge me.

Really fantastic advice offered here - thank you to everyone. I'm also very much new to this, having come across from the more conventional agency model of providing graphic and web design services. The 'message' from the posts so far seems to be to pick one area to focus on - which makes absolute sense. Anyone trying to research a new topic area on the internet as vast as IM will be familiar with the term "analysis paralysis"

My question is: Does anyone know of a link to a comprehensive list and brief explanation of the top tried and tested methods for making money online? I'm not after a list of 1000 IM methods, just maybe the top 15 or so popular methods. Ideally they should be proven to work and quite general. for example:

      1. PPC
      2. Adsense
      3. Affiliate / Niche marketing etc.

Would be cool to see what the options are before deciding upon an area to focus on. I hope this all makes sense, go easy on me as it's my first post here! Thanks in advance.

p.s - fantastic community, been reading posts non stop for a few days now (hence my question above!)

Hi everyone, great to be onboard!
The problem with setting up an online business is usually information overload, which leads to analysis paralysis. A stategic, simple, step by step system is for me far more valuable than an ocean of information where you're just swimming aimlessly. Because list building is a critical factor (if not the most critical), at the very least you need a step by step system to help you build a list. This is the absolute foundation of an online business, so one should seek the most ergonomic way to implement it.

CPA marketing is an easy / fast way to get your feet wet and make some money with little to zero out of pocket expense ..I do it and it works great for me!

What you hear about the "moneys in the list" is absolutely true . Start learning how to build a proper list

Stay away from the "get rich quick" scams and anything that promotes "instant" or "automatic / autopilot" .. From what I've learned, there's really NO such thing! Yes, there are programs that can make life easier but I've never seen anything that's genuinely a "fire and forget"

Stay on the forum ..There are alot of great people here sharing knowledge / experience ..It's been a God send for me!

Most importantly, stay positive and focused! Don't give up before the magic happens!

    Good luck / God Bless

Best thing a newbie can do in my opinion is find a keyphrase in google keyword tool that gets at least 1000 phrase match searches a month.

Then, search the phrase in regular google but in quotes such as: "dog food secrets".

You want results for this to be less than 30-40,000. Takes some time but worth it.

Then, register a domain name that is your exact keyphrase with either .com, .net, or .org, and you can use hyphens if you need to.

Then, type your phrase again into google and go down and click on the wonder wheel, and that will give you 5-9 keyphrases that will become the titles of posts for you site.

Then, get some backlinks and submit articles to the article directories.

and... you'll obviously be promoting something related on the site that will make $$.

Then, register a domain name that is your exact keyphrase with either .com, .net, or .org, and you can use hyphens if you need to.

Then, type your phrase again into google and go down and click on the wonder wheel, and that will give you 5-9 keyphrases that will become the titles of posts for you site.

Then, get some backlinks and submit articles to the article directories.

and... you'll obviously be promoting something related on the site that will make $$.
can we do this on blogspot i can see some other niches index 1st on google. if all is ok and well then buy a domain?

by the way the reason i got interested here was my site getting 1k-2k visit a day (& 400 uniques) without me doing anything if i can replicate the whole thing again this would be fun for me.

oh i linked it to my famous thread in a forum (i don't own that forum) which got a PR4.

Thanks a ton all of you. . Just one more question. I don't have any domain registered with me. Still I want to open an adsense account. I've heard that Hubpages are good for doing so. Hence I built few hub pages and applied for google adsense account. But google didn't approve saying that site is under construction. Most probably I applied it a bit too early before setting up enough hub pages. Later on I wrote few more hub pages and now I've 20 odd hub pages. Noe I've again applied for adsense account but they are taking way too long in responding for the same. Can anyone suggest me what to do? How can I contact google for the same?
    Please help. Thanks in advance.

The best way to make money online in my opinion is picking one keyword that is related to a niche you are INTERESTED in. Like if you were into playing piano your keyword could be "learn how to play piano". Build ONE blog optimized to rank for that keyword. Build the blog into an authorative blog which generally takes a few months or if you work fast it could take as long as one month. Build a variety of backlinks.

Have about half of them with the anchor text as your keyword and the other half varied so google does not slap you. Go to forums about piano (your topic), learn from all the authority sites, update with a new post every day that people will like. Sign up for an email marketing company like aweber and build a list by making a good incentive to sign up like a free report or a couple of videos on how to play songs. Whatever is relevant to your topic that you know people will like and sign up for. Create a good squeeze page to capture leads and recommend your incentive at the end of each of your posts. Build backlinks from forums, blogs, article directories, social networks, youtube, other blogs that you make about the topic whether free or paid, etc.

Make autoresponders for your list of subs. Send them the download page for the incentive at first. Then make helpful email messages with tips. For every two of these messages you should then send a message as a promotion for a relevant product that you actually bought and reviewed. Find at least 3 of these products and review them on your website. Include your affiliate links in these thorough reviews. For the one you like the best that you think will help your readers out the most you should eventually include some kind of bonus you created yourself. Have it work well with the product. By doing all of this continuously for as long as you can without jumping to another make money strategy or method you will have a very stable business that should be able to replace your job. Then once you have this established site that is making you a good amount of money you can dabble into other things like setting up sniper sites for hit and run marketing or PPC if you want.

Heck you can even teach other struggling marketers how to do it. But do not do any of that until you have made this blog a true masterpiece that people will love. Improve overtime with content, videos, even posting your picture up there. This is what IM is all about. Not push button software.

This method worked for me. Please do not be one of those marketers without focus. Do this, build the list, give your list cookies, and keep trying to make your blog stand out from the other fakes in your niche. I hope this clicked with you because it never seems to click with others. Have fun with it, stick with it, and you will have beautiful rewards. If you need more tips then you should check out copyblogger.com since that is the best IM source I think I ever came across.

I tend to focus on CPA products that solve a problem for the individual. What works for me: Lead Gen, Tools and Training products. Then I drive traffic with email and PPV. Then I track ROI very carefully and cut the losing campaigns.

There are hundreds of business models, maybe thousands. choose the flavor you like and stick to it!

when you start off with your first campaign, realize that you will beable to Everything with your brain and fingers. but this takes tooooooo lonnnggggg...

So what I would do is look for software, websites and resources with "TOOLS" that can help you speed things up!
Example. Google keyword tools (not needed really, but makes things alot faster!) (for anyone who says you cannot lookup keyword's without a tool then your wrong, I have seen MANUAL keyword research done by profesionals, without any keyword tool)

you will beable to find free, cheap and expensive Tools. Just come to Warrior forums and use google to search the forums for (best keyword tools, list of article spinners, etc.) and you will find tones of info, like whats hot and whats not and why!

After you get your Tools together, LEARN how to use them! even the stuff they use that you dont think you will ever use! JUST LEARN it!

having a compass is good, using it properly helps even more : )

    I hope this helps!

Do you play golf? Learning this business is alot like playing golf. When you first start, you suck, are embarassed in front of what others think and feel like giving up. Then all of a sudden, you start hitting the ball and get better and better.

Just be careful of all the sharks out there....if you stay out in the water too long, you will find yourself surrounded by more and more.

What I may recommend, partner yourself with one of the top Internet Marketers in the industry by joining his/her team so you can get unlimited internet training...that is what I did.

    Good luck!

Here are my four simple tips.

Whatever direction you choose to take, whatever niche, whatever method - make sure that you start building a list from day one. Use the search function on the red strip at the top of this page and look for all the info you can on this topic and apply it.

If you have an investment budget, invest in tools rather than 'systems'. By that I mean spend the money on good hosting, an autoresponder service, and software that will help you in SEO rather than one guru product launch/WSO after another which will end up confusing you and distracting you. The exception to this would be to get War Room membership. That will pay you back very quickly. When you a buying these tools and services, remember that the highest priced ones are not necessarily any better than the others - shop around.

Create a business plan. Be aware of how many projects you can handle in the time you have available. I would suggest that you develop a medium to long term business model which will produce high consistent results once it has reached a point of critical mass and, perhaps, a fast returns project which you can do to pay the bills in the meantime. No more than two projects or you will be spreading your time too thin.

Be prepared to work hard to get what you want.

      Hello Nitin,

One thing you have to bear in mind is that everybody is always busy in IM niche but you can still get someone to help you pick up the beats.

One unique advise you should not overlook at the moment is that it will not do you much good to spread your energies in many areas.

If it is website flipping you find quite intriguing, try as much as you can to learn and master every trick and pieces involved for you to excel in that area.

The same thing applies if you desire to start with affiliate marketing.

Don't just follow every money making idea you see online because most of them surely makes money for those that are diligently operating there but you have to learn the ropes first.

Your best bet is to choose a niche, get it going and see motivating results before you move on to the other.

    Hi,
There are many useful posts here which is again too much information when you are starting out. To make money in Internet marketing you need to learn the skills you need, just like any other business.
So learn the basics, find out how it works, decide what interests you and focus on that totally.
There is no magic button, but you can spend many weeks and month's when you first start looking for it.
Forget the get rich quick ideas and learn the basics.
    Good Luck

    Hello,

I got the feeling that you might have done a lot of reading, but not taken action. If I am wrong, please excuse me.

I suggest you find a product that appeals to your interest and that you feel has a market. If you know how to do some keyword research on Google, you can check this out, or you could choose something interesting with relatively "high gravity" from Clickbank.

Then try to sell it. Actually do the things you have read should be done. Make a simple task list of what you need to do and work your way down it. Don't waste money on things like Adwords yet. Just go through and do the steps you have read about, with the emphasis on DO.

Sketch out a flow diagram of the sales process you are involved with ... that is to say who sends what to whom, when/under what circumstances, and where are things stored, by whom and when, etc.

Doing this will raise further practical questions of how to do what. I'm sorry that this is a bit telegraphic and also if you have done all this already.

    Best regards,

    Gren.

Hi, and welcome to the Internet Marketing world!

Okay, I've seen a lot of questions like yours, and I have the same answer every time.

First off, there's a lot of ways to make money online. Instead of saying what you can do, I will tell you what works for me...

I really focus on building my list. The way you do that, is that you create a product, or have someone create a product for you, set up a squeeze page and then sign up with aweber to get an autoresponder account (Email Marketing Software, Email Marketing Newsletters & Autoresponders by AWeber).

When you've set this up and have everything in place you just have to focus on driving massive traffic to your squeeze page. Now, there's a lot of different ways to generate traffic, but there's also a lot of free, good ebooks and free training on it.

You say you're short in money, so maybe it's best for you to look for some free WSO's on how to drive traffic and so on? Just watch out, because it's SO easy to get information overload and end up quitting Internet Marketing in frustration.

Anyways, this is what I'm doing and it works well for me. That said, you got to find something that works for you and that you're happy doing and then stick to that business model and make it work for you.

Find 4-5 good internet marketers and sign up to their lists. Make sure these are people that provides value and not just tries to sell you product after product just so they can earn a quick buck on you.

Same thing here though. It's easy to get too much information and therefore you should make sure you're not following more than 4-5 people.

Keep it simple, and make it work! Baby steps counts too.

As echoed very rightly by everyone else is to focus on building your skill set first i.e. Buy a domain, Set up your hosting, Build a wordpress site, etc.

And then focus on one simple strategy e.g. Build a list, etc.

The key in my opinion is not to focus on the money, sounds weird I know but you gotto focus on building a sild foundation and from there the money will naturally come.

Im speaking from experience as I struggled badly for the first 4 months I was online, only when I myself done the above did my situation change ..Thers no Magic Bullet dude, just Hard work lol

    Wishing you the best

    Peace ~Z~
