My name is Randy Hall and I've been a member of the Warrior Forum for a little while, but haven't posted any threads until now. Like a lot of newbies I've just been lurking and checking things out here and in a lot of other places while working a full time job.

Learning is slow when you're doing it on a shoestring, but now my situation has changed, and not for the better, I'm afraid. I've recently suffered an illness preventing me from working and have to start making money some other way, just to survive.

Now, I'm not wanting your pity, just a little support, advice or if all you can offer, your good wishes.

What I've learned so far on my own is how to put up my own site and that I have a lot of marketing knowledge to share. You see I worked for ten years selling ad space for a newspaper. Since the newspaper was a small, family owned weekly I also had to design my own ads and come up with the copy.

I've also worked in retail sales and have been successful doing it. I'm currently the top salesman in the district for a major retailer. Anyway what all that selling has taught me is why people buy.

What I've been focusing on is producing my own products. I've written one ebook and have another nearly finished. I've also written some articles and a couple of newsletters, all of which can be viewed on my site citylightsmarketing.com and I've got another site, hallofwords.com for my advertising agency that should be up in a couple of days.

Neither of these businesses have gotten off the ground, but I feel with dedication and hard work I will be successful. Any advice or constructive criticism will be welcomed, even if it is just some of the ins-and-outs of this Warrior Forum.

I'd like to thank you all for your time and would appreciate any help you can offer. I would also like to add that I hope this post isn't breaking any of the rules of the forum and that I've placed it in the right section.

your experience in sales and copywriting will help you a great deal. what may be holding you back is the use of common keywords, having you compete with other established sites. the idea is to use keywords searched less, but with a lot less competition. do some keyword research and see if you can replace some of your existing ones.

use this tool to determine the amount ofvsearches:

    http://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

towards the lower right there is a dropbox - open it and select "show all"

next, go to google, and type the phrase in " " . keep in mind that not every result is a website...merely a mention of it, so don't be intimidated by huge figures. anything less than 20 000 is workable, but the less, the better.

you can analyze you existing pages, and those of your competition, here:

Text analysis, wordcount, keyword density analyzer, prominence analysis

it will give you a complete breakdown of the content on your page.

even a couple of hundred searches a month is fine if you are on the first page. different pages on your site will have different keywords, attracting different visitors.

    hope this helps

    Hello Randy,

I was thinking that if you understand marketing then perhaps you can offer copywriting services to people.

You can hang out at the copywriting forum over here and impress people with your content. Once you have a sufficient number of posts you can perhaps come up with a Warrior Special Offer (WSO) and offer your copywriting services to people.

Perhaps you can check out elance and digital point also. Copywriting is a skill that is very much in demand and there should be no shortage of work for you if you are experienced in that skill.

    Hope this helps

    Nikhil
