Guru-Jaded: Is There Anybody Out There Who Offers That "Something Different"?

I was reading a thread yesterday that left me (for lack of a better word) dumbfounded. This guy was totally bashing gurus, talking about how people were throwing away their money on these guru courses, and I look down at his signature, and . . . Hello! - he's a dang guru!

So I'm reading the responses and getting a kick out of what everyone's saying about this dingdong, and it got me to thinking - who offers that "something-different" in their courses? Who actually cares about us newbies and gives us our money's worth and actually helps us?

The first person I'd like to thank is Kim Roach for giving us that "something different" with her Traffic Dashboard. This is not the usual rehashed crap. She actually teaches you unique and effective ways to get traffic to your website. So Kim, thank you!

This next person - and I'm not calling her a 'guru' because that's a bad word in my house, even though she's earned the status - is the absolute best when it comes to offering that "something different" we're all looking for. Her name is Tiffany Dow, and as far as I'm concerned, she's the best of the best. There are some who criticize her because she doesn't pull any punches, and she'll tell you like it is whether you like it or not. But who doesn't want and need honesty in this business? Her PLR ATM is definitely not the rehashed crap we keep coming across in our quest for knowledge. She actually offers that "something different" and delivers with a capital "D"! And her customer service/student interaction? Top of the line - you couldn't ask for anything more. I've literally emailed her with a question and received an answer back within five minutes! How's that for customer service?

So Tiffany? From the bottom of my heart - Thank You!

I agree with you about both Kim and Tiffany in that they do offer step-by-step honest advice, and I think you have really answered your own question. Different "gurus" (and I hate that word) appeal to different people. I like Kim and Tiffany both because they are straight forward and come across as honest decent people who yes are making a living online, but who give a lot in return for money spent. Tiffany especially offers a lot of information for free - like her tips on her Mom's mentoring right now - yes she may do a course with it, but you know it will be a complete one - good points and bad - and that is why she appeals to me.

I guess you have to find who you resonate with and stick with them

    My 2 cents

All these people are doing is providing a service that the market wants...

When people start to realise that push button profits and hyped up salesletters are no longer converting then real products will come back to the forefront. Sadly it's the sizzle that people want rather than the actual steak.

A core group are starting to speak out, but it's going to take a while for it to filter through.

Totally agree that Kim is the real deal.

No, it's not like a drug dealer at all. See, drug dealers actually give the market what it wants. The folks referred to here don't. They say they're giving you what you want, but then give you something else.

Now flip that around, and apply it to whatever you sell.

If the people who you thought were leaders did not deliver on the promise, call them something else..why blame the word? :-)

I am by no means saying that every guru out there is selling crap. But think about it - every time you get an email about a product, the word 'guru' is all through it with the "gurus" telling you the other "gurus" don't have what you need . . . they do! I'm getting tired of that word!

Another one to add to the list - John Delavera.

He's helped more people to become successful online marketers than anyone I know - yet sometimes I think he's one of the best kept secrets in the IM world.

And he puts out a free PDF every Saturday, chock full of excellent info...

    Hey Kristen and other newbies,

Take this the right way Here's an idea - put your credit card on hold for 6 months. Do not buy any new stuff. All you need is here to succeed is here on the Warrior Forum and some other good forums/blogs.

Also, while the Warrior Forum is great, learning is best done from master to apprentice ;-) Meeting people in person and talking ideas will often make that lightbulb turn on.

You're right about putting the credit card on hold - that's exactly what I've done. And you're right about Warrior Forum - utilizing that as we speak. Thanks!

Good! I think it can be a great idea to buy a course if you have the resources and want a shortcut, but as a newbie it's so hard to know who is for real and who isn't. I personally wouldn't mind paying a lot of money on a good course these days, like anything Terry Kyle puts out (which is reasonably priced btw.), but that's only cause I've followed these Warriors for a long time and know who they are and what they stand for.

        Good luck with your projects!

I just want to say that you named Kim Roach.
She's definitely the real deal, giving tremendous
value every single time she opens her mouth.

If you're looking for a reputable guru, start with someone who
gives incredible value for very little money that gives first, then
    sells later.

It's all about building a relationship with people, so if they
don't give value first, then they probably only want you to open
your wallet or pocketbook before getting the value you seek or deserve.

I believe that it was Zig Ziglar, who said that you should give
up to $10 in value before receiving $1 in pay from prospects.

That can come in the form of freebies, bonuses once the
    product is bought, etc.

People make "gurus", people can unmake them, too.

However, most gurus became gurus by doing exactly
what I just mentioned. They often provide proven
methods (at least they once worked), so maybe they're
    onto something.....

You're right - wish everyone felt this way . . . maybe then 'guru' wouldn't be such a bad word!

Ok, this puts me over the top. I was considering the traffic dashboard, and with some of the comments on here I'm going for it. At least she gives us something for focus on over just words and theory.
