Wordpress Trackback Questions

I have recently gotten serveral trackbacks to my blog, many are from blogs like this one:

Your Publicity To You Blog Archive Why I Give My Products Away | AchieveItMarketing.com

and have a couple of questions.

1. Is it ok (for google, banklink, etc.) to have links from sites like this? If not what should I do about it.

2. If it is ok, they all say "unknown" wrote..... Is there a setting in my blog I need to change. When I look at manage posts, my name is in there as the author.

Thanks

That's an excerpt scrapper blog. There's not a lot you can do about them since they usually grab feeds from Google and other RSS feed aggregators and republish it on their ad stuffed blog. Also, since it's a small excerpt that you've intentionally made public and freely syndicated you can't claim a copyright violation (essentially doing the same thing Google does for their search listings, BTW). The only way to avoid it is to hide your blog from Google which you don't want to do.

The good news is that you get a backlink to your blog, a weak one but a free link none the less. It also means that your blog is showing up well in syndication for keywords you're targeting in your post and titles. This is also a good indicator that your blog is gaining some search engine traction. I pretty much look at it like if you're not being scraped then you must be doing something wrong.

However, you should not link back to these spammy sites from your blog. Send their trackback comment to Akismet spam or just delete it. For my niche marketing blogs I turn off trackbacks entirely since I know that they'll almost always be spam.
