Here's How To Get The Sales Snowball Rolling.

This post won't provide any magic bullet, or some miraculous method for making sales. However, it will get you in the groove of making sales and pocketing a few bucks if you heed the advice and actually do it.

We all hear the phrase "Take Action" all the time. Unfortunately, for many people it's a bit tough to know exactly what action to take.

I've found that once you get in a groove and have made a few sales, it gets easier and easier for the other sales to start pouring in. But so many people have such a hard time making that first and second sale to get the snowball rolling.

So here's my suggestion. It's what I did when I first started out.

Go through your garage and house and pick out 5 items to sell on eBay. Yes, eBay. I'm baffled at how many people dismiss eBay so quickly because it's a place with MILLION OF BUYERS.

I know the fees have increased over the years, and it may not be the perfect business model for most of us. However, it does provide a platform for us to write some copy, upload a ad, and make a few sales.

By simply selling those old pair of Levi's, that air compressor that's just been sitting in the shed, or finally releasing that old bell collection you've been hanging onto for a lifetime you'll get yourself in the flow of writing ads and cashing checks.

That's taking real action!

Making money is addicting. But you gotta experience that first hit to get the rush. If you are struggling to make sales online, I highly encourage you to pick 5 items in your home that you can sell and load up some ads.

It will definitely be a action step that you can be proud of, and most likely make a couple bucks.

Give it a try.

I'd love to hear if anyone actually does it and makes some sales.

Peace

    I'll second that advice.

Many people don't seem to take ebay seriously as a marketplace, but remember that it's filled with buyers.

You can put up an item for sale and have 25 people view the item and 12 of those people will actually place a bid. That's an insane percentage.

You don't have to spend weeks or months trying to get people to trust you while they decide if they want to spend $27 on your e-book.

You can put something up for auction and see bids on it very quickly (within an hour sometimes) which will inspire you to keep going and list more items.

Can't argue with that idea at all and it is one that will definitely work! I've never looked at ebay as a business model, but I have definitely sold a few random things I've had around the house on it. No doubt you can find all kinds of people buying things you would have never thought you could sell.

Making money is addicting, so it very well maybe just the thing to get people to take more action once they see even one sale. Smart idea!

I'll give some hints to make your ebay sale a success.

      1. Once you find an item you are willing to part with, look it up first on ebay to see if it will sell - or if anyone is selling anything similar.

      2. Don't dismiss selling something until you have looked it up. I have seen some big money go to things that others regarded as trash or stained or broken. Again, look it up.

      3. Take notes on what you see in the other auctions. Copy the listing titles of ones that appear prominent in the searches.

      4. Don't get skimpy with the description. Yes, I know you took a picture - but the search engines don't know how to read pictures. They read words.

So, don't tell me it's just a blender. Tell me what color it is, how big it is, what things you enjoyed drinking from it, and describe your experience to me like I am blind.

      5. Cover the essentials. What do you have? Why do I need it? How do I get it?

      6. Make sure you include if you are willing to ship anywhere or just in your local area.

      7. Use a video if you can! Yes! This can get you traffic as well. If you don't know how to use video in an ebay auction (totally free btw) you can click on my little youtube thingie to the left and in my channel I have a 2 or 3 part video series on listing things on ebay and using a video if you please.

Treat this like any other thing you want to sell online. Convince the buyer you are the one they should buy it from.

Make sure you charge fairly for shipping.

Put a note in the box when you ship it out, thanking them for their purchase, and encouraging them to leave feedback so you know they got the item ok.

If you see no feedback or response in a reasonable time, contact them. Make sure they got your package.

All of your tips were top-notch, but I especially wanted to emphasize the above. This is a great way for people new to or struggling with IM to learn about keywords and writing headlines.

Also pay attention to the categories for a popular listing. While you may think that a stuffed duck, for instance, might best be listed under "home decor", with a little research you'll find that the big money is under "sporting goods".

I love ebay to make quick money!

Everybody got some old stuff on your house that don't use anymore, and on ebay are thousands of buyers looking for the most incredible stuff.

It's just to get open your eyes:

One I got to a dollar store (my daughters love dollar stores) and I saw 30 books brand new of Martha Stewart and I bought it all of them.

Then I check it on amazon and I notice the price on it was $29 so I create a buy it now auction and I include on the Title "30% Off Just Today" and include an image of the price on Amazon on the description, I also include some testimonials from Amazon.

I sold all the books on 2 days for $19 so I make as $500 dollars in 2 days.

      Nice don't you?

This is very cool. Thank you for sharing.

I bought about 100 decks of magic cards, (Svengali Decks, Stripper Decks, and Marked Decks) from the Dollar Store and used to sell them on the streets when I was hustling magic tricks. I'd sell the decks for up to $20 a pop.

This is very good. I was actually just thinking of selling my iPod Touch to get some more money to invest in my business. I think ebay is a grand idea.

That's absolutely brilliant, and you're right - after you start seeing $$$ coming in, confidence comes right along with it, followed by motivation, work and more $$$!

I've never thought of getting the ball rolling through eBay, but you're right - it's the perfect place to start seeing results. Just to make sure you're successful, look at what you have to offer, and do some research - see if similar items are selling, and what they're going for. This way, you can make sure to sell stuff people want, and will know about where to price it so you get the best deal for yourself while increasing your likelihood of a successful sale.

Craigslist is a great place as well. In fact, in the last couple weeks I've sold a Plasma TV on Craigslist, a fridge, some surfboards, and I'm about to unload a host of other things cluttering up the garage.

I've also done this plenty of times and highly recommend it.
Great way to de-clutter your living- and working environment! Plus, it's marketing training 101, since you have to create an offer for each item you want to sell.

That's more or less how I got started, the only difference being that I wasn't actually intending to start anything. I chucked three items up on eBay just to give me something to think about other than a health issue my sister was having at the time (this would have been about seven years ago) and then immediately forgot about them. A week later my sister got the all-clear and I got an e-mail from eBay notifying me that I'd sold an old diamante brooch that had been hanging round doing nothing upstairs since Mrs Noah decided it didn't fit the ark image any more.

I actually remember getting my sister's news more than I remember getting the e-mail, but it obviously must have motivated me towards the world of online sales because nine months later I was an eBay Powerseller with a house full of wholesale stock and a whole new extended family in the form of the local post office staff. Even though I've moved house and no longer do eBay, we all still keep in touch to this day.

Like I said, I never intended online sales to play much of a part in my life when I first started eBaying, but it was a different story by the time I'd stopped doing it. It did change my mindset and my expectations and assumptions of myself, and these days I can't imagine a way of life that does not somehow involve making sales online.

You can kick-start your eBay enterprise for less of an investment by waiting for one of the cheap listing days they have (approximately once a month). In the meantime, you can use Turbo Lister (eBay's free bulk/multiple listing creator app) to create listings for all your items whenever you've got a spare minute. This saves bags of time, especially if you have lots of similar items like books or CDs. Once the next cheap listing day rolls around you'll be ready to go. Check first to make sure that there have been no increases in postage prices since you created your listings, otherwise you'll risk being out of pocket.
