Low budget client: FB fanpage and/or blog?

Greetings,
I'm trying to get a SMALL business owner noticed online. She's got a website 'business card' that sits there with no optin, no keywords - quite ineffective. I don't think she wants me to touch it.

I thought a FB fanpage would be a nice addition with well-researched keywords/name and a delectable free report/ebook for an optin for the 500 million FB users. (Does a FB fanpage show up in a Google/Yahoo/Bing search?)

OR - do I also need to set up a blog -with the same posts/report? What does the blog (on her own hosting account) provide that the FB fanpage does not?

Thank you Warrior!

I use both a fanpage (S) and a blog. You can see the fanpages listed in the sidebar of the blog. Pretty simple to do using plugins. and a free theme. I built the wp page in about 30 minutes.

Do you see the blog vs. fanpage for different audiences? (e.g. Google traffic vs. FB) Are each of your fanpages on a subtopic of your business? What does the blog focus on vs. the fanpages?

Use both. Facebook is only a tool to drive traffic and build your brand and presence in my opinion. Fanpages are free and blogs are inexpensive so why sacrifice one for the other.

A Facebook fan page is very important, and easier to be improved. A blog depends on many things. You cannot maintain a blog if you’ll simply post a few articles and then abandon it…

Tell your client that she must indispensably optimize her website and collect email addresses, otherwise nothing you may do for her has any meaning. Tell her that you are a professional and you are showing her the truth. If her website is in a desert, there is no meaning on trying to send a few souls there. Explain how simple it is to optimize a website. Explain how the internet works.

She doesn’t have money now, but if you’ll help her make some money, perhaps in the future she'll be able to pay you to improve her website even more.
