Creating a website.. need suggestions

Hello All,

I am creating a website that will have a forum, blog and content piece.
For SEO purposes would it be better to use the best of all three and connect them. Like (wordpress, vBulleten, etc.) or some software combines all three for you. Like vbulleten for instance allows a combination of all three in one... Does anyone have experience with this and know which is the best way to go? Does this effect you ranking in the search engines at all if you go one way or the other?

Thanks
Chris

I would use WordPress and Vanilla (Vanilla - Free, Open-Source Forum Software) can integrate nicely with WordPress.

In my opinion VB is overpriced, especially when you can find nice, open source and free solutions.

  • Thank you... what about Joomla? is that the best software for just content?

  • Also... does one way or the other effect your SEO rankings? if I combine three different softwares, or just use one that can combine all three?

      Have you seen Ning?
This is a hosted service that offers blogs, forum, and customizable content pages, plus most of the features of a Facebook-style social network, too.
It's $20/month but offers loads of features.
      Hope that's helpful to you.

As one who has used Joomla, Drupal, and WordPress - my preference today is WordPress - hands down.

Why? SEO. Period. There are sooooo many free plugins that are available to accomplish just about anything. If you need more layout flexibility there are plenty of programmers out there who can customize the front end to do just about anything you need, plus you get the backend benefits of all the free tools.

Personally, I don't use or even consider anything else but WP anymore. Of course their are varying opinions, but that's what works for me.

I do everything from a wordpress platform and set up a related page on Facebook.

With the right plugins, you can just about anything.

See my sig for an example of a wp site.

I just add the wishlist plugin and voila an instant membership site.

I think you mean CMS (content management system) not software, like Wordpress. No, Google doesn't show favoritism to any CMS. However, some CMS's are built better for SEO than others.

Matt Cutts, Google SEO Specialist, uses Wordpress himself. He's always saying Wordpress is great for SEO.

In terms of on page SEO, both do an equally good job. The difference between Wordpress and Joomla mainly comes down to functionality. If your looking for simple and elegant then Wordpress is for you. Hands down, Joomla is far more powerfull and more feature rich.

Wordpress is the program of choice for me as well. There is a robust community of developers and experts. I haven't found anythng yet, that can't be done with WordPress. As far as SEO goes, what is good for google today, may be banned tomorrow, if wordpress gets banned we're all in a bucket.

WordPress + DigitalAccessPass.com (DAP) for your membership site.

    For forums...

Simpleress (or bbPress) or vBulletin (DAP integrates with all of them).
