Information overload for an IM newbie.

Hi everyone. This is my post to the forum. Thanks to a friend (who is just starting out also) I recently became interested in internet marketing. I've been online most of my life, grew up with a lot of 90's hackers and spent my early 20's on irc and different other places. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm not new to the internet and don't get overwhelmed online very often. I am also very comfortable with online technologies. Researching internet marketing however, is very overwhelming. While I was visiting my friend mentioned above I was able to sit down with him and watch Mass Money Makers. I felt it gave us some good information but it was a very hard to follow course and I felt they may have left out some important information.

I'm thinking I would like to start out with affiliate marketing and from what I have researched Niche Blitzkrieg would be a good place to start. Since it is a one time fee (I don't have a lot of money to invest at the time and the price seems reasonable) and the community that you have access to once you purchase the course.

Is there something else anyone out there could recommend? Forgive me if this has been covered before, I couldn't find anything else around here that was directed as a good starting point for newbies but as I said, I have been feeling very overwhelmed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Welcome

I'd strongly suggest holding off on buying products just yet ... hang out here for a while and learn from the "masters" ..

There are alot of great people on WF ... You'll learn alot here

      Welcome Melody

With your background I would just do something very simple. Do not buy into a huge program. If you buy a Warrior Private forum membership you will have a whole range of business models. Pick one and do it for 3 months to get started.

I started with my own product (Non IM). Then 2 years later started affiliate marketing.

      All the best

I would second this. One thing you may want to buy is the warroom membership and get an idea what IS possible. The lesson that I have most come out of from IM is that the methods that you will ultimately use are as individual as person tastes, likes, loves, etc. In other words, you can learn a lot from people but ultimately you are going to do what NO ONE ELSE DOES and that is why you will be successful or not. In other words, the lesson I learned was that your degree of success depends more on your individuality than your ability to study a course.

Focus more on your values and actions. Ultimately you are not going to make dime without actions and the faster you find those actions that meet your needs and values, the faster you are going to make money.

      Good luck, btw, John

I have to agree with this too .. I suggest first mastering two things to get started:

      1. A traffic method other then SEO

      2. Building a landing page that converts

Nothing wrong with SEO, but to someone who is new it can get frustrating real quick

      Hope that helps ..

It is easy to be overwhelmed. There's so much information out there...get a feel for what's out there, the big picture of the online business landscape and all the different ways you can make money online -

Then settle on one that appeals to you. Info products and affiliate marketing are the most common approaches. If you are ready to look for a 'guru' to guide you, then I like to recommend Jason Fladlien, and his approach of making $7 products to start getting some traction.

  • 10-Step Fundamental Affiliate Marketing Plan

    1. Market Research. Go to prominent offline and online media sources.

They provide global economic news, business trade news, industry trade
news and consumer market trend news. They also provide their own
analytical commentaries. They have professional researchers and expert
    analysts...

Analyze the data they offer and pinpoin the most profitable industries this
    year and beyond...

    2. Consumer market research. From the data above: Pinpoint consumer
markets in the most profitable industries that are expected to search and
look for content on the Internet which can satisfy their relevant immediate
needs and solve their related urgent problems...

    3. Online consumer market research. Which of these groups of people
prefer and are expected to buy on the Internet those solutions for
satisfying their relevant needs and solving their related problems?

    4. Online consumer market behavior research. Where do they go online to
talk about those relevant immediate needs and urgent problems? What do they talk about? What sort of specifics can you learn about their relevant
    discussions?

    5. Affiliate market and competition research. What sort of solutions are
already out there for those immediate needs and urgent problems? Where
do they go to promote those solutions? Who offers those solutions for
commissions per sale? Which are the best solutions? What benefits are
    lacking from those best solutions?

    6. Keyword and competition research. Use keywords you acquired from
numbers 1 to 5 above on the Google Keyword Tool to get exact match
searches. Use those exact match searches on Google one at a time,
without quotes. Take note of the top 10 or 20 page results for each of
those keywords. Determine the Google PageRank, domain age, number of
backlinks and the Google PageRank, domain age and number of backlinks of
pages and websites where backlinks pointing to those top 10 or 20 ranking
page results are found. Determine where those top ranking page results go
online to promote those solutions and their relevant content...

    7. Take note of heavily trafficked pages included in those top 10 or 20
page results which accept content contributions from viewers. These can
be forums, social networks, video directories, ebook repositories, blog
networks, article directories, press release submission sites, news and RSS
directories, online communities, Web 2.0 sites and document-sharing sites among others...

    8. Take note of heavily trafficked pages included in those top 10 or 20
page results which do not accept content contributions from viewers.
Pinpoint those with heavy daily relevant traffic and good mailing list
subscriber bases in terms of relevance to your offers, volume and
responsiveness. Store the list for future reference in terms of fresh content exchanges for backlinks and business info on those pages, mailing
list ad placements, onpage ad placements and other joint venture deals...

    9. Take note of your industry market, online consumer market, affiliate
market, keyword and competitor research data and analysis. Register a
domain and server hosting with a credible hosting service provider like
Hostgator. Develop a website optimized both for viewer responsiveness in
terms of its visual layout and aesthetics and onsite search engine
optimization. Slap a mailing list subscription box with management panel
and develop free signup downloadable content beneficial to your target
audience. Slap a video panel on your website and develop a 3-minute
introduction to your website and business. Develop content offering
beneficial info, advice and utility for
your target audience. Add benefits not offered by other affiliates and the
developers themselves of your affiliate products. These can be added
rewards, incentives, free digital info products to maximize the benefits and
utility of those affiliate products, discounts and so on. Promote your
affiliate products in the right places at the right time on your website...

    10. In the pages and websites mentioned in numbers 7 and 8: Establish
yourself as a friendly expert source of content, info, advice, products and
services useful for satisfying the relevant immediate needs and solving the
related urgent problems of your target audience, all while providing
bundled benefits not found elsewhere. This gives you a chance to build
mutually beneficial relationships with your target audience...

Do a search for Matthew Neer. He has a great 5 part video training course that's free and it covers the same areas that Mass Money Makers covered but Matthew is organized and his material flows smoothly, unlike Money makers. Found his site. Use his name plus dot com.

Thanks everyone for providing a great starting place. Looks like I have a lot to research. All the free information is great! Is there any program that would help with a newbie that I may want to take a look at? Maybe I should just hang around here a little longer as suggested. Also, what exactly is provided in the Warrior Private forum membership? Is that what the War Room is? It looks like it's a one time charge so that would be doable for me in the next week or two.

Thanks again. I finally feel like I have some direction in all this!

Hi - I would highly recommend the book by Ewen Chia. Read this on holiday and is one of the best books I've read.

Its called How I made my first million on the internet.

I've put a lot of his concepts in place in under a few months, his advice on affiliate marketing and how to set up multiple automatic inome streams is excellent.

Also its very easy to read.

Firstly - welcome to the Warrior Forum, Melody! I really hope you enjoy your time here.

I'd definitely echo Tonio's comment about joining the War Room. There's so much great information inside, and the reports might give you a better idea of what you'd like to do and more importantly, what you don't want to do.

Uh Timyang , can you just post an amazon affiliate link like this ?

      Hello melody , and welcome

I suggest to look for some good info (wiki can be handy..) and eventually some free ebook , the first thing is really to learn more about "internet marketing" as a whole , because there are plenty of different ways to do things , like you wanna sell physical products , or digital , CPA(cost per action) etc..

I would also recommend you check the challenge free course , im gonna follow it too before i join the war room they have a good bunch of good quality videos , and information , plus it's all free . They do send you some affiliate links but it's no big deal .

      Good luck

More things to research. Awesome! Thanks! I love the idea of the books, as in physical ones, I don't mind affiliate links as long as it's an honest suggestion. Any good free ebook ideas are always welcome as well. I'm going to get started on all these things as soon as the kiddos are asleep tonight!

I also wanted to say thanks again for all the helpful information. I don't think I can 'thank' people yet as my post count isn't high enough. I've book marked this thread to come back to the wonderful suggestions everyone posted here!

Welcome to the forum. I would suggest just a few things to get you started.

      1. Know what you're good at. This may or may not have anything to do with IM

      2. Know what you'd like to know more about. This is something you may not be skilled at, but have a high interest in learning more about it and possibly even becoming a master at it all together.

      3. Stay consistent with both 1 and 2. If you see a new product on article marketing and you see the large money making potential in it, but hate article marketing or simply don't like the idea of it, pass. I promise no amount of money will force you into liking anything, not a person, not a car, not a product. If you don't care for something, you just don't.

So don't waste your time on something you don't care for. Stay focused, stay positve and know with each step you take you're learning and thats one more thing the next person many not know, who eventually you can help and make good money doing so.

      All the best,
      Ryan

When I first started with IM, I purchased all kinds of products, software, attended countless seminars and webinars and spent a LOT of money in the process.

My advice is to ask questions on this forum. It's amazing how generous and accommodating the members are on this site, and they offer a tremendous amount of expertise and input.

There are so many systems available out there, and a lot of them are out there in order to make someone else rich. Be careful and prudent before making purchases, and it's much better to be savvy now, but holding your horses until you know exactly what direction you want to pursue in the industry.

Rather than rushing in and finding out a particular product is not for you, and spend hours upon hours agonizing over a system that is designed for wheel spinning, be patient, ask a lot of questions, and you will eventually be in a place where you are confident enough to start implementing strategies and systems.

I've seen a lot of broke Hares, and many rich Turtles...if you get what I mean...

    Good luck!

Honestly you can get all the information about affiliate marketing for free. It's pretty simple. Just create a blog, with a domain name of a low competition long tail keyword, promote your affiliate product on that blog and start to drive traffic to it.

Sure, there's some skills you need to learn, but as mentioned before, you can find stuff for free on how to do all of this. That said, I know it's easy to get overwhelmed, but I think the key to success here is to keep things simple and not try to overcomplicate Internet Marketing.

Keep focused, and make the business model you choose to go for, work. Building a list is also something you'll need to do if you're serious about making money online. You can of course promote offers to your list when you've built it as well

It's common for beginners to feel overwhelmed when
starting in the Internet Marketing niche.

Of course as it should be, theres so much to learn, so
much conflicting information, and sometimes no personal,
real advice to help steer you in the right direction.

If you are looking for some ways to get your "feet" wet,
you can begin doing services for others (writing articles,
submitting backlinks, things of that nature). Not only
will this help expose you to other's websites, and systems
but your also getting paid in the process

(your getting paid, and receiving an hands-on education
    so to speak).

Best thing is, is to try one thing, stick with it fully (for 30
days) before you try something else.

What I mean by that, is if you try a product creation course,
go through the entire process of creating your own product.
Getting it listed to an affiliate network, recruiting some partners,
and then driving traffic to your page.

Don't sway off course because you don't see a return then try
to go for an Affiliate Marketing course or CPA course. When you
do that, it's like you get a sample of each system out there but
never actually master anything, so you don't see any results.

Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions, not a huge
guru, but I do make some money online (only 10% of IMers
actually earn an income of $500 or more a month...)

This is a great place to learn. I'm a newbie and I've learned a lot. I still have a problem with focusing in one area and not getting side-tracked by the latest "guru" offer but I'm slowly focusing on one method and trying to squeeze success for it
