Talk about Going Viral...Angry Birds Video

Lol just saw this off a friend's wall post on facebook and thought I'd check it out:
I'd be interested in monitoring it and seeing how long it can go

Notice within 2 days they got 1 million + views. Not to mention they got a lot of news coverage from tweeting by the game owners to USA Today...

I am just curious the # of backlinks they got form this if they monetized this properly it can be a lot of money. the video is also ranking first for quite a few terms and just remember it was only up 2 days ago...

Thought this was interesting and maybe someone can do something similar with something else...

500 Backlinks in 2 days on the video...those that are indexed so far.

Mistake #1, they haven't put the url as the first word in their description. FAIL!

Ah just got what you mean. I guess this wasn't meant to monetize...they probably aren't marketers but indeed if they did have a url would definitely be a high traffic source but still they get a lot of publicity on their site with this. we're even discussing it here but they coudl most definitely maximize this viral movement further

The fact that they watermarked their url into the video and also created an annotation with the url in it says to me they are trying to get people to their website. Once of the best ways to do this is to have a clickable link - it's not enough to just have the link listed in your video - people are too lazy.

They should have one at the very beginning of their description so it is a clickable link.

A lot can actually be learnt form this video:
    1) The power of viral. 1.3 million views in just 2 days and growing. Being shared on USA Today and on numerous facebook, twitter account. See how fast news can spread?
I mean people 2 days and it got to so many people and all over so many places and links....this is the internet for u
    2) How to make viral content (Something people want to share, something unique or classical. Something that people already know about but yet with a twist) make it news worthy. Your Boyfriend breaking up with your sister...might be news worthy to you but sadly for the rest it likely isn't news...unless there was a very very interesting dialog that was videotaped and didn't look faked
    3) Also I just checked their video backlinking on backlinkwatch. People are concerned about sandboxing. Indeed it does exist but it's more in regards to abusing... if you're building 100+- links a day you should have no problem. Just don't ping them all at once. This video has 500 backlinks currently found and indexed and check the creation date...but you got to remember this is a viral movement likely the backlinks from these are high quality backlinks such as those from legitimate news sites etc.
So IMHO the # of backlinks isn't as important as the source and the your strategy in backlinking.

Now I notice a lot of places mention the actual sites eletricpig.co.uk as well along with the video so they get also benefit there.

I remember the days where I was afraid to make any more than 100 backlinks/day

to be honest one of my preferred methods of backlinking is still the classical contextual web 2.0 sites because they are indexed fast and they help but the problem with them is that they can be very costly or time intensive. This is why I mix in a variety of link building methods. But you can't really go wrong with web 2.0 sites imho. Sites such as Hub pages etc.
Not to say I don't have other preferred backlinking either but people tend to turn from the simpliest thing looking for the "newest" thing and forget about the proven tactics.

Has anyone checked out the website that's watermarked in the video? I have, and it's an authority site with thousands of pages of content. Not to mention a link to the video in the upper right hand corner of the main page. I don't know what their daily traffic numbers are, but I'm sure it didn't hurt the numbers for the video.

Then you have the video itself, which is quite good. Decent editing, good background music (and by good music I mean unobtrusive)...they put some work into it instead of dumping more completely useless crap on the Internet. Good for them, we should all put so much effort into our marketing.
