Cheap SOB's = Failed dreams.

I'm getting really tired of the cheapness I see amongst so many marketers today.

Cheapness when wanting quality. Cheapness when wanting speed. You name it, seems like everyone expects something for nothing these days.

Sure, we're not all cheap. There's a ton of serious marketers here who realize that paying for what something is worth keeps the globe spinning.

But when you try and cheat, cut corners, or downright steal from others... you're destined for the failure bin.

Sure, you might make "more profit" for a while, but your attitude will cause more workload and stress for you in the long run.

For example...

- Article writers than use spinners.

They spend $50 on a spinner. Then 1 hr per day using it.
Then when the results don't come in from those articles, then are forced to repeat the process over and over.

- Marketers that expect a $97 product ghostwritten for $200

And when the product doesn't sell, or gets high refund rates, or buyers don't come back for more, then they have to start again, with another product, in another market.

- People who use content spinners (auto blogs)

And when Google won't rank their sites, or they get a 99% bounce rate, they have to spend another few days creating more websites, buying more domains...

And there are hundreds more examples of the Cheap SOB mindset.

Everywhere I look, people are working their asses off, trying to find ways to save time and money.

Oh the irony. If only you could see how easy it really is. All you have to do is spend the money, get the results the first time around, then move on.

But no, so many folks insist on wasting time and money, finding the shortcuts, diminishing the quality, and slowing down their success as a result.

If you're one of them, my advice is, wake up.

With the "cheap SOB" mindset, you're going to struggle mentally and financially today, and in ten years.

Please, just pay the money, get it done properly, and save face in the real world.

....

"but I don't have any money. I'm starting on a shoestring budget"

Yeah? Well, get a job then. Do this part time, and spend some of your wages on quality solutions instead.

And if you have a job and still can't afford it? Then stop buying donuts and burgers, movies and beer, and start taking this seriously.

Or get a better job. Or just work overtime. Or just work harder on your business.

There's no excuse for the Cheap SOB mindset. It's gonna hold you back in life, trust me.

This is important for any kind of business, whether its online/offline or sells widgets/wackets.

You get what you pay for really, and I think that the low entry costs of IM are what make us think we can get the world for cheap. It's far from a healthy mindset though.

Personally speaking, when I first started I tried getting by with cheap services and products. My reward? Was minimal success. It wasn't until I started treating IM as a business that I began making more and more money each month. That meant taking on more costs than I was interested in--but it paid off in the end because the quality of my work increased exponentially.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

HAHAHA! I've been listening to Dire Straits a lot lately. My favorite track is Sultans of Swing, by a mile! Reminds me of being a 7 year old kid in the south of France.

Yeah, I feel better now. I just have to vent sometimes. And hopefully, one or two people will benefit massively from this rant too.

Their song "Once Upon a Time in the West" is pretty good, too.

Yeah, but the point is, to TEACH people to know better.

But on the same token, just because you pay more for something doesn't mean it's going to be any better than what you could have got cheaper either. I've bought plenty of, so called top Guru course's, and come to find it was just reworked content. But that's getting onto a different subject all together.

If you ask me cheap, or not, it all falls on the person you're doing business with and the pride they take in their work. There are plenty of top freelancers on oDesk, Elance, vWorker, etc right now that started out with no feedback, no trust, brand new, so no one wanted to take a chance on them. They had to resort to lowering their price so people would give them a try.

As soon as someone took a chance and got excellent work in return word spread, fast, throughout and clients would start coming to them which cut down the time and advertising involved with them looking for prospects.

So I guess what I'm saying is you're taking a gamble. Some might say the odds are better if you go for the higher priced work and they could be right. But I guess that would also depend on your own ability to search out the best effort you can get for your money. Whether that be cheap or expensive.
Great point, well said. Ultimately, it does come down to who you do business with... totally agree.

I've spent thousands for work that could have been done by my 12 yr niece, but lesson learned.

Still, that doesn't mean I should expect to pay $200 for the same work. It just means I need to be smarter in who I hire.

In good faith these people spent good money and many will be disappointed.

I'm sure many have spent lots of money on all sorts of things, such as software, advertising, tools, design, you name it and never got a financial return.

To be successful you do have to invest. This can be in the form of sweat rather than dollars. But you can do both.

Acquiring and implementing relevant knowledge is the key.

But these days you can spend quite a few hundred dollars and buy tools to speed up your progress.

Don't forget though, you can build any website in notepad if you want to.

Bu that's the problem - people will go out of their way to avoid work, by using cheap software and services that never really work in the first place.

And for the record, I'm not just talking about buying information here. That's a whole different ballgame.

I'm talking about hiring other people, or using tools.

I'm not saying there aren't tools and services to speed up your progress, rather, there are many "cheap" tools and services that will waste years off your life... and thousands from your wallet.

              Nick,

Ok, but now I'm a little confused about the points you are making.

If people buy tools are they still cheap SOB's?

I'm not sure now what you are saying. Please clarify.

              Cheers.

I guess that sounds good in theory, but it doesn't work that way in practice. Most people need to make a mistake and learn from that mistake before they really get the lesson. You can tell a person they are doing something wrong until you're blue in the face.

Besides, the premise is that there is a direct correlation between Price and Quality. And that's not the case.

It also doesn't help that a lot of the products being promoted are "make zillions while you sleep and do nothing!" types of products either. I think, though, that in terms of real business--the Cheap SOBs tend to weed themselves out from the rest of the people who are genuinely trying to run a business (not just make a billion overnight for blinking) which is nice for providers like me because, honestly, I'd rather not waste my time on a project that is only designed for "good enough for what I paid." I'm too much of a perfectionist for that.

Though I have to say that having to sort through a bunch of "I need u 2 rite me sum articals supr fast for $1 each" e-mails and "u need to work w/ me bekuz I wanna hire u but ur too expensive" instant messages does get annoying.

To get quality results you simply get the best people / tools to do the job.
If you can do the job yourself then you have to weigh up the time vs money scenario.

If you do outsource to get results then ask yourself what sacrifices are you going to make to make up having to pay someone else to do it?

I would like to think that most people would want their name on something GREAT than just scrapped by right?
So you either invest time or money.....your choice

    100% spot-on post Nick.

I love that the majority are too cheap to understand you have to spend money to make money. That way the superior services, which tend be more expensive, are always open for more business with quality support...because they're lower volume.

I would much rather purchase a service that costs $97, or $197 per month, versus one that costs $17 per month.

You get what you pay for in IM, particularly when it comes to copywriting.

This here is important. Really important.

Most people try to make money online when they don't have a job and/or are broke.

What they need to realize is that IM is a business and business takes dedication, work and some serious capitol to succeed.

Now people come online with $20 in their bank account and they try to start a business. That's a problem.

What other business do you know of that has start up cost as low as Internet Marketing?

If you don't have capitol then it will be hard and you will find yourself exhausted.

Customers want things for super cheap. That is not surprising. What is surprising is the fact, that there are people standing in line just to give to them, and do not hesitate to undersell themselves just to make literally a few bucks.
